If they were to make a German protagonist, my fear is that a developer would whitewash the support the NSDAP actually received from the average German and show the character instead as a sort of unwilling participant.
The fact of the matter is that even in the Wehrmacht, the vast majority of Germans either emphatically supported or implicitly tolerated Nazism. Outright opposition or ideological grievances were rare.
Best way to do it would probably be to show the protagonist at first being a loyal zealot and over time beginning to become disenfranchised with Nazism's promises as the war (and its cost) became more evident. Which would also be true to the general German attitude.
