u were like 6 when it was poppin
nothing else like it
play acfa its also a miyazaki game
i might check out the reforged ngl
partially because i got a PC very late in my life because i couldnt afford one and parents only really got me consoles xd
its also the very early build of the current fromsoft engine
didnt he also do ac4
we still got 2 and a half hours to go
3 if you want to wait for the actual show to start
wdym peak just dropped today https://store.steampowered.com/app/4124950/Ashes_of_Creation/
A World Reborn from the Ashes
Ashes of Creation is a massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG) set in a high-fantasy world where player actions shape the world itself. Cities rise and fall, populations shift, and entire regions transform as players rebuild civilization on living, reactive continents. Every decision, individualā¦

Looks like a WEG

Pre alpha alpha
i got distracted by the hours played measurement contest, bro its a once in a life time historic game experience
its hard to think of glazing words that gives the witcher 3 justice
I've played through the prologue
It just didn't grab me
Maybe it's the RDR2 situation, and the first few hours are the worst?
But I did like RDR2 from the start
I'm not trying to be Musa or anything, I wanna give it a chance, it's just I kinda don't like fantasy overall and and I simply don't feel the pull to play it
the prologue is just running down the damn stairs racing ciri though lol
i wish i could experience tw3 for the first time again š
No, I mean the prologue till you meet Tywin Lannister and get a main quest
I think even the title drop is after that
That's tutorial
true i was goofin
Tbf I felt the same about Dark Souls and RDR2, and those ended up being some of my favorite games ever
I will get to it
yeah if you are not into medieval fantasy it might be hard to get drawn since big thing about w3 is atmosphere
Eventually
although i would give velen (the area after prologue) a chance since it has one of the best stories
thats crazy to me though, i just reinstalled rdr2 for the 9189192th time and still cannot get into it. i feel like every action in the game takes far to damn long. different strokes for different folks š¤·
RDR2 is basically like an interactive HBO show
If you're the Gameplay > Everything Else kinda fellow, it's probably not gonna click with you
The best thing about RDR2 is that it kinda lets you feel like you're organically a part of the world, and not it's center
CP2077 is very similar in that regard
another one i cant get into š but it does look great loool
oh i though its 2hours exactly
or 96mins now
the game itself is rougher, but narratively the witcher 2 starts strong as hell
one of my favorite openings in video games honestly
I feel like 3's start only works if you're already invested in the characters
maybe this playthrough i will use a different build than the other playthroughs lol š¤
mmh yes just opened my window for few mins
launching new test build rn
is the per channel hue shift again just for highlights? @stark anvil
yeah
well, more accurate to say it works in tandem with the per channel blowout slider. It shifts relative to how high you have that turned up
can confirm no color shifts / saturation shifts with 2500 nits vs 1000
this looks really damn good

i think you have cooked @stark anvil
Cool. Now if only bloom can be solved
i dont have too many issues with the settings im using
Check sunset on the bridge to oxenfurt
Literally one of the best narratives ever written in gaming with incredible top tier acting and dialogue. I'd gladly give RDR2 as the best game ever made IMO.
With Witcher 3, I felt the same when I tried playing it back in 2018 or so, so I basically started reading the books
For reasons that elude me I just always end up falling off of that game. On paper itās incredibly my thing.
and slavic / nordic folklore is literally my jam so fell in love and then starting this game was a breeeeeze and is now one of my fav games of all time also
I started RDR2 like 5x
Man same, i dont know why, ive started it 2 times and while the intro grabbed me pretty well i kinda lost interest shortly after that
maybe the 3rd time RDR2 will click for me
When I decided to stick with it
gl im on attempt 800 it feels like
it was the best decision

You gotta sit down and decide now you will see it through and the pay off will be worth it, trust
Waiting for a Vulkan renodx mod to jump back in. I just canāt deal with the dx12 camera stutter
Even though I think games like W3 are incredibly special and tick all the boxes for me, mainly the type of world setting and lore. But RDR2 is hands down, the best "fictional" world and characters ever created. R* cooked hard
yeahhhhhh the texture mods i want to use dont work with dx12 either š¤·
kek
we back in there boys
why use dx12?
renodx
HMMMM I havent seen any yet š¤
ah. I think there wasnt one when I played
Just stuck with it, Vulkan has incredible performance
I should see if itās still a thing I guess, could have been something with windows/drivers at the time.
Witcher 3 RenoDX HDR
But it wasnāt a frame time issue and it didnāt exist in Vulkan
If this ever gets fixed then the mod is perfect

Witcher 3 needs patch for dx 12 optimisation

I saw someone in the DF Discord claiming that setting CPU priority to high doubles the 1% lows in DX12
Might be a snake oil
I'm planning to replay it once I'm done with RDR1, I will check for meself
cinema
the 3rd attempt is what grabbed me, it took me years to get into it but im really glad i stayed
apparently rdr2 dx12 has an issue tho with the timcycle being insanely fast or something so i prob wouldnt bother using reno for it
this is all one playthrough, the last attempt. it took me some time to get there but fuck it was so good
after chapter 1 things open up a lot more and you have the option to explore literally anywhere
doing my first witcher 3 playthrough now and im just gonna make myself stick with it because i know itll pay off
everyone talks about it like they talk about rdr2 and if theyre even remotely similar in quality itll be worth it
It is worth it
But a lot of references will go over your head as they reference not only events of witcher 2 and 1 but the books at times also. But not to the point you donāt understand whats going on
yea i assumed as much. i do want to go back to play them but optimally i will need to get into w3 first. i have some what of an idea of what the story up to witcher 3 has been like so at least i am not fully in the dark
Witcher 3 is basically a sequel to the books. Most of Witcher 1 and 2 is irrelevant to 3.
yeah that's also true. You definitely don't have to play the other games for the story in 3 to make sense, but for me anyway playing 2 before 3 made me inherently interested in these characters. I think the opening to tw3 kinda requires trust in the writing
if you count inflation they are now very good games
it's been a while since I played it but tw2 is probably still fine enough
tw1 is simply too jank for me
tbh tw1 has its own charm
every game has its charm
yeah even combat mods barley make it playable
it was a big issue for arpg games back then
super janky combat
though idk if witcher games should be considered as arpg
good thing its getting a remake
a game that makes sense to remake
gameplay and lore wise
yeah, game most in need of a remake
will it run as bad as w3 next gen
cause game part bad but the rest of it is interesting

demake with censorship
though the writing is definitely uh...video game 2000s I guess
with UE5 performance
well you wont have a whole studio working on it for years only to get pulled underthe rug becasue of le war
and 500% bloom
E33 effect and its consequences
UE5 hurt gaming
Pumbo's Oklab fog blend carrying hard atm
it is
W3 NG CPU perf isnt getting upgraded
yes and no because what happens in W2 directly impacts how you perceive certain characters etc, I didnt play W2 btw, just saw those mega boring essays on the story lmao, just read the books
actually cant wait for the remake : >
checked my numbers too, apparently 1,200 hours W3 on Steam + 500 on GOG
neither RDR1 nor 2 work for me, no idea why, can't bring myself to play through once (so far).
Hope the Tw1 remake will be good, I tried 1 as well and yeahā¦
Pfft
I played witcher 3 4x in the last 2 years how are you even that close?
Comparing torches all day
I love it, despite the jank
Which I had dropped when I got sick with colitis ulcerosa/ulcerative colitis and couldnāt play for 2 months atleast
And then 50 hours probably just went into testing a bunch of different Reno builds and finding good settings

atmosphere is incredible
I'm also a big fan of Sapkowski's books and the first game always felt closest to the short story collections, The Last Wish & Sword of Destiny
And then also some time ofc goes to my screenshots since I like to play around with the photo mode to get interesting images and angles etc

finding some conditions where luminance tonemapping with per channel chrominance/hue is just not holding up compared to straight up per channel
none of the hue methods get red right
still worth it overall I think
this deep red sky is cooked though
actually maybe it's not a hue method thing...
maybe I just need rgb max tonemapping?
yeah that fixes it
idk if that'll be weird in other ways though...
quick and dirty test with lilium's tonemapping shader
@tribal sable curious if you'd have any advice for dealing with this problem
What Iāve been doing is taking some hue and chrominance from per channel reinhardpiecewiseextended() and then doing max channel at the end
okay cool, that's where I've arrived
Are you blowing out and hue shifting in the tonemap shader
doing it at the end before display mapping
You could try doing just the blowout in the tonemap shader
I think I tried that and it looked better to give bloom the full color
other than this situation where it's a bright ass color I guess
i found pink candles yesterday
in novigrad at night,
hopefully switching to max channel will work better
whats weird tho is that other nights its not as bad
but lut grading had no impact
so im not sure
why the candles look different just based on weather? would be my guess
thing is when i set it to vanilla they look normal
are you perchance working on that today?
im available to test for like next 8-10 hours
yeah, I just haven't done this before and have apparently made a mistake that I'm not seeing lmao
cursed output
is the latest snapshot build the last "stable" build or what should I use rn
If you play W2 and then W3 you will feel whiplash as all the major plotlines from W2 get dropped and relegated to a few side quests in W3. All the politics, kings, racism stuff W2 centred around is just not the focus of W3, even though at the time it felt like Witcher 2 was setting up a lot of things to be used in the sequel. I think after finishing W2 they pivoted hard to the wild hunt in order to have a more actiony story that would appeal to mainstream.
sorry I had to get up for a while lol. I fixed what I did stupidly, let me just make sure the new build works and I'll post
it did indeed fix that problem
okay ran into another issue to figure out, but I did now lol
- UI polish
- tonemap by max channel instead of by luminance
now it should be a proper per channel replacement
something still seems off about luminance behavior but I don't know if max channel is just kinda like that or not
nah lilium's version of this looks better, guess I need to learn a little more
ya max channel darkens pure r,g,b more
forcing hue shifts makes it brighter
what I'm noticing actually seems unrelated to this code. I really need to go through and cleanup my code in this game...
alright I think I'm just making up problems at this point
bruh didnt see it
ill test now
Oh wow
Looks promising.. ill run this for a bit and see if i run into any issues
thanks for working on it so much, almost obsessively š its crazy how many changes you've made
cant wait to test later
i'll have to donate to bro again smh
i complained too much kek
RenoDXlets when....
We've suprassed the 'just fixing HDR'

Jon aint ready when he wakes up

||-# im sori||

its not super bad though, like a minute later the sun looks diff and it doesnt have that weird spot anymore
but yeah filmic is completely cooked here
other than that im really happy with it so far
even candles looking good now

i dont fucking understand this game
sometimes the candles look absolutely perfect
other times its fucked pink hues
like.. ?
??????????????????????
HUUUUUHH
why the fuck are there 2 candle flames that look completely diff
yet they look nearly identical in SDR
genuinely tweaking rn
yea its genuinely strange
literally just experienced this
i always thought maybe its like weather dependent or sumn, this is the first time ive actually seen them side by side on one chandelier completely different like that
you have to mod the candle textures
š¤·āāļø
some of them are pink
some of them arent
Hello ChatGPT, pls make some new slop candle textures
they look normal in SDR though
im not sure thats it
ya because sdr uses per channel tonemapping
blows out them to orange
or yellow
use broken colors to compensate for borked tonemapping
that how the industry is
they probable used different textures for candles
these are some of the fire textures in dark souls remastered
yeh
the ultimate solution is moddding those pink textures
And some candles seem to be in sdr also not hdr. I just learned to ignore it lol
If someone wants to fuck with them, Iāve got them from setting up redkit
so many of my candles look like theyre in sdr yeah
not a massive deal but it is noticeable
doesnt rly take away anything
Every time I go to see about fixing the candles, I get side tracked by something else
I've done texture work
So you can send to meeee
but I am playing POE soo I dunno when I'll came back
You'll also have to package them and Yadda yadda
What format are they in?
Iāll upload em here when I get a chance (maybe tonight)
Canāt remember format etc
hows new season
i wont get into it until im done with witcher
maybe i can figure something out with tha help of AI telling me what to do

how are you hue shifting
like if you're doing a tonemap with a shoulder at 1 for example, maybe lower the shoulder so hue shifting starts earlier
Reinhard piecewise at 0.18f shoulder.
For some reason some of the candles in the game just arenāt very bright
i dont even care about that tbh
and brightness doesnt seem to dictate whether or not it hueshifts to pink i dont think
because adding tons of hdr boost or contrast etc doesnt make the rather normal candles shift pink
its hue shifted to from pink to orange
The texture is pink
its orange in sdr because sdr uses a per channel tonemapper that does pink to orange
if its itm then per channel will hue shift orange to pink like the hdr boost slider (i think that was changed?)
I wonder how it would work to split the difference between luminance and max channel š¤
Like maybe a little hue clipping wouldnāt be noticeable
me so happy I can barely make out these candle troubles in game. Though it is getting harder with each example here, haha. Reno looks great to me, very enjoyable to play.
Gonna have to add a slider and play with it (and figure out the invalid stuff aboveā¦)
Alright
renodx::color::correct::Luminance()
oh I meant how it would look lol
I just set it up actually, just a lerp between rgb_max and y
seems like you can get away with a bit of hue clip. It's kinda splitting hairs in terms of the result though
I had to crank highlights to max and then add HDR boost up to like 30 something to get anything like this
It only happened like during like a few last minutes before the sun went down fully
Iāve not seen it since
This specific one was in white orchard Iām not sure if the sun looks different per region
I'll have to keep an eye out for it
and yeah it would likely be dependent on a host of conditions
I was in the Nilfgaardian camp because I wanted to check candles there since they are some of the most atrocious and then saw that sun

not gonna add a slider for this, seems like a trap to give people
Hm
likewise I may remove hue method. ictcp works the best for this by far
Did you make any progress with the candles? This doesnāt really sound like it
this wasn't for that
Yeah I think thatās a good idea
nah it was because max channel dims a good bit on saturated colors
so I was thinking it might be worth a little bit of hue clip
Ah
basically, by luminance uses an average of the channels, so with bright saturated colors, you get hue clipping and it kinda smears together
max channel avoids that but is more aggressive tonemapping

the slider I was thinking about is basically moving along a line between luminance and max channel
the reason I say it's a trap is because luminance will look nice and punchy and better until it doesn't lol
Heh
Yeah I donāt know if thereās like any solution to this game to make it look good across the board
just have to convince yourself that they are ~magic~ pink candles and that is their intended look

hahahahah yep
I might have cooked something up regarding the candles shifting
Will I have broken something else in the process? Probably š

this shot is wonderful

druid is a ton of fun, i love being wolf pack
What settings did you ise
Latest build Jon posted here?
I have some interesting progress.
Whatās diff?
hahaha the light affects the rain particles.
Hm I see, yeah iunno if I like that actually, would have to see it in motion
In screenshots you can tell that the rain just looks weird
Like the texture of the rain particle

I admit I exaggerated the effect for the capture.
My objective is to achieve the same rain result as blitz fx

I see
When release
You didnāt even ping me for the last update like I asked š
I only saw it like yesterday

well, figured out the issue with dof I think
might require me to make some other fixes
whoops, just realized I left some code in a shader from experimentation that I didn't mean to
from one of the test builds, wasn't in a release build
god this dof shader sucks
it's got weird artifacts completely unrelated to renodx too
another test build, perhaps a release candidate
- fix dof and probably some other behaviors in post processing (sunshafts look different, need more testing)
- remove hue method option
- update purist preset to have slightly less blowout/hue shifting
- add warning message in intermediate/advanced menus
@cold basin
so this was a lie
bloom/sunshafts need another tuning pass now
hm, maybe not
Please do if you want lol
The maybe not was just cause bloom/sunshafts seem good as they are
DOF works?
Yes
Pog
Sunshafts are more intense
I think motion blur might work better
I actually only tested in photo mode
I do use the motion blur, not sure if it was bad in any way
The fix wasnāt even in those shaders, it was something stupid I did
Looked good to me
Yeah same
Iāll boot the game up in a bit, just woke up
Yes itās 2AM my sleep schedule is beyond cooked

Basically, whole post processing pipeline might have been off in terms of transparency and any calculations using them
Cause Iām dumb
what if
Noo u not
If itās trivial for you to test in one of the broken cutscenes, that would be cool. Will save me the trouble of loading up someone elseās save lol
I have a save like right before the Triss scene
In the witchhunter house
That one was broken
Can test that
Alright. A dude on nexus sent me his save I just havenāt tested yet
But given the nature of the problem I think itāll be fixed
Yeh donāt worry Iāll do
Iād be surprised if its a different shader
Yeah, sadly candles still fucked and I canāt unfucked them on the recent buildsā¦
I have to finish a quest first before I can test cutscenes
Itās the gwent high stakes tournament and I couldnāt save before the 3rd gwent battle, only got a checkpoint
I donāt understand why it would be so different between these buildsā¦
Adding more per channel blowout should do it
Yeah if I tell you what I did on the an older build I think youāll kill me
Itās so simple

What is that?
I mean I can put the hue correction slider back in if you need it
Yes please if thatās simple to do
Sure (though it requires me running tonemapping a third time lol)

Btw I think thereās some sort of memory leak or so happening with Reno
The game has something like that on its own
Because if I play around with it enough I sometimes get like freezes or extremely low frame rates until it crashes
Nah I think this is Reno related because it often happens when I change too much stuff. Or sometimes when I move some sliders all of a sudden ultra low fps
Sometimes it catches itself and goes back to normal
Other times it will crash
Doesnāt make much sense to me, I think itās coincidental.
Is that bad ?
Moving sliders wouldnāt do anything to memory, that space is already allocated just by having the slider
Not really, just slower
I can just run it only when the slider >0

it should be
im not sure how i didnt think of it earlier, like i said it only occured to me when i saw the tool tip
i never really tried using it above like 40-50 before
making me realize I should probably add more tooltips

seems to work identical to the old builds, very good

Thank you very much
Iāll send you a dono on kofi later for all the extra work you put in
ā¤ļø
you certainly don't have to lol
I want to
i think jon has put more work into this witcher mod than pretty much any other mod lol
for sure
even other people included
no clue lol
I'm not sure if the per channel hue shift slider needs to exist
it seems like it pretty much needs to be maxed for per channel blowout to do what it needs to do
i would keep it, can tweak it better
atleast im playing around with it now
or well i guess for public build removing the slider can be simpler i guess, but i also wouldn't wanna keep asking you for extra builds with sliders from you every time you update it, though not sure what you'd even update at this point
yeah or maybe we get a even better tonemapper or whatever
in the future
here you can see as well how cooked the igni decal stuff looked before
it was just red pink
hmmmmm I might have an idea for improving hue correction some
doing a blend so the correction is strongest on the brightest parts of SDR and a lot weaker on the rest

if you do that... is it possible to have both in 1 build so i can compare better
just for testing
sure
it's mostly a subtle difference
it's subtle but it's pretty good ngl
think this will be how I keep it, but I'll post the build with the toggle for comparison sake as requested lol
- update slider names and tooltips
- add hue correction bias toggle (temporary)
- updated purist preset
@cold basin
poggies
ill check in a bit, at the store rn
gotta buy some snackies
for me and cat

75 hue correction with highlight bias
75 hue correction without highlight bias
hue correction off
might be onto something, subtle though
looks more natural at higher values
I should but I'm also not tired
kek
feel that
i just have the unemployment sleep schedule
gonna go sleep at like 2-3PM

oh right I should probably revert the highlights slider back to v1 behavior
eh, I'll just keep it
hm whats the downside of keeping it like it is now?
Itās super aggressive on already bright highlights
yeah ive noticed that on igni
Even just putting it to 51 will make things blowout a lot harder
if i use igni and go to photo mode even 51 highlights aint good
trying new build now
@stark anvil sadly not the play for the candle issue, and if candles look like that then other hue issues are probably back with it too.
hm, guess exposure plays more of a role than I expected
candles in the kaer morhen segment at the start of the game get fixed
possible
this is in the quest count reuven treasure, where you put the wine bottle to unlock a door
I don't feel like I've seen candles that pink lol
yeah this is probably one of the worst spots but ive seen it in other places too
i mean you can keep the toggle i suppose
but i wont be using it

yeah have to play around with blowout n stuff
atleast thats what i did on the reinhard build
it'll grief basically all lights
i understand that but.. the alternative is bad pink hues in other places
let me try playing around with different ways to blend this I guess
sure
1 moment
oh well i hope it works for you, kek
i run like a lot of mods
@stark anvil
its the chandelier when you load in thats right behind you
booting it up now
praying the save dont crash for you xd
missing dlc_events whatever that is
nope
probably some mod dependencies
maybe I've got a save there in my huge save list
I have one
thats just since november 30th when i started my playthrough
well :2 since one is always the save png
but yeah 480 saves kinda crazy, im saving like alot by hand since i sometimes want to redo quests a different way n stuff

can't find it lol
cant complain tbh how it looks vs sdr
And ive rather have them yellow than pink
after reading this channel i will never look at candles the same way again in hdr
lol
I've looked at so many candles and I'm just not seeing anything that bad š
the screenshots is pulling me back in but i already have a shitload of hours in the game.
you're using vanilla weather right @cold basin ?
yesnt
better vanilla lighting or sumn its called
can you check if it's still a problem without it?
sadly not as i think i cant remove it without having to fix a bunch of shit in scripts
I can load it up (I was using it before so it's trivial)
but I still have to find a cursed candle lol
wouldn't surprise me if it's a lighting mod thing
or exacerbated by it rather
alright I'm about to start tweaking things and sending you builds if I can't find a broken candle lol
little more aggressive
@cold basin
alright let me try adjusting it around midgray
if that doesn't work, it might as well just be full sdr
frankly I have no clue how this wouldn't work, I just thought it would be overkill
ah shit i accidentally had 2 addon files in it
gonna have to test this last one again
for sure
get some sleep big man

not as bad anymore id say
now testing midgray thign
sent wrong video smh
ok so midgray one works
but eh
i cant tell a different when toggling it on and off
so i guess you made it virtually the same
Maybe one more at the halfway point would work out. I just donāt want hue correction to be fighting with saturation correction.
@cold basin
yeah
oge
checking in a sec
kek i need to come up with more names, this is getting confusing

lmao
@stark anvil doesnt change the candles, only really slightly see a diff at the light that hits the wall and geralts forehead
crazy hard to tell
on the recording
candles arent pink tho, so thats good
btw on another note, the fire that comes from lighting the candles yourself is also a big problem without hue correction
as you can see here
why is this one place so pink
igni never looks like that for me really
wait why do you have per channel blowout so low
ah im just experimenting on this preset
i use regular blowout here
per channel blowout is critical for flames
bro its same on the presets xd
its ofc not quite as bad but still pink
purist preset just removing hue correction
bruh
does the video load for you
i keep having issues with this
yeah it just takes a bit
even restarting i cant watch it
let me try something else

bro is quick with it
i shall name it candlesexponential.addon64

i cant load addons without rebooting the game right
correct
my steam friends probably think im regarded
"why he restarting witcher 3 every 2 mins"
I stay invisible for that reason lol
incapable of being a normal person that boots up a game to play it
uh, let me make sure I thought the math through right lol
hm, I think so
i mean, im happy anyways, i just wont use that highlight bias
I'll rather take the original intended SDR hues
and blow them out a little
instead of trying to work around the pink shit
I'll just keep it as the raw SDR color
or I'll just keep the midgray one
not that it makes much of a difference
raw SDR color actually screws up the sky in toussaint btw
creates some weird distortion around clouds

im nowhere near toussaint yet
im taking my sweet time with this playthrough lmao
but yeah maybe ill make a dedicated preset for myself just for that
I may play around with it more, but for now I need to focus on fixing mh wilds
yeh no worries
Great improvements!
so I was gonna make a silly comment about invictus' one Triss video attacking Menge, but then Discord kept saying stuff like you have +300 more messages to go until you're caught up so I just hit MOVE TO MOST RECENT and skipped a bunch. Hahah š hard at work, this channel was. š
u r just updating it to rank up in trending mods!!! currently rank 4th. We need 4 more endorsements to get you to rank 2 with a larger preview image
hahaha and those versions honestly are just test versions. These latest improvements will be the final version.
honey why did you wanna experiment with wax in the bedroom/on our unicorn all of a sudden?
ah no idea, it must be cuz of christmas coming up, suddenly seeing candles everywhere..!!111
I'm wondering -- would Triss' lighthouse scene sort of classify as "big candle"? uh-oh

looks awesome! I honestly detest the "wall" of rain that just looks like a massive sprite always facing you in the distance, mainly when riding fast it looks so ridiculous loool
I've been using Realistic Rain Textures V3 gonna download yours in a bit
@cold basin

this is like the first one I had you test, except I'm using the HDR color to determine the blend amount.

cool. It helps to avoid kinda undoing sat correction as well
yeah i noticed, i like it
can see the improvements to saturation correction on the wall very well
Alright, I guess that will be how it works.
Well, I need to test in toussaint I guess
inb4 everything broken
finally got to test it, works better on the sky
still a bit awkward but probably only in a way where you see it as you move the slider
finally ready to call all this work a v3.0 release. Here are the changes compared to the last verison on nexus:
- Change tonemapper to Hermite Spline
- Tonemap by max channel by default, with per channel chrominance/hue
- Add per channel blowout/hue sliders for more direct grading control regardless of peak/game brightness when using max channel tone map scaling
- Improve HDR Boost math and run it by luminance
- Upgrade SDR tonemapper to HDR using tonemap extrapolation
- Slight improvements to saturation correction thanks to tonemap extrapolation
- Fix bug from previous releases in tonemapping shaders, improving post processing quality and fixing DOF in photo mode and a few cutscenes
- Improve hue correction to bias towards highlights
- Update highlights and shadows slider behavior
- Adjust some names/tooltips for clarity
- Update presets accordingly
realizing I didn't test SDR yet
yeah I need to fix SDR, oh well that won't impact anybody here
okay figured out what was griefing better SDR support this whole time (I'm just dumb and it went to 8 bit right before UI)

has there been any changes to the last test im running atm?
not that you need to worry about
oge
removed that option and cleaned up some extra shaders that don't need to be included (file size went down)
man i have like 4 save files that all have very different looking cfires, some more reddish some more orange some more blown out
im cycling between them and trying to get a good balance
actual pain
i need like a live view of all 4 at the same time

oh, this complicates things a bit on my end
may need more testing
this realization means reworking where tonemapping happens
which means gathering shaders I could ignore before
- substantially improved SDR support
this required restructuring some code and adding new shaders. If anybody is willing to test this (in HDR, no SDR testing is needed really), it would be greatly appreciated. Potential problems would be tonemapping/grading sliders not working (I went to every region and it seems good though).
it's otherwise the same as 3.0 above
even less so in this channel

chef jon really cooked
Wrong channelš
not that simple sadly xd

shit can look vastly different
depending on time of day location weather inside outside etc
trust me ive been fiddling with this shit for weeks

theres a bunch of shit to fix.. sun/sky, all fire textures, ember textures, igni etc etc
not sure how the bloom effects work, might need to be fixed too
for now its just simpler to use hue correction
to make it closer to what the SDR reference looks like
shouldn't that be the job of LMs and other mods?
that ship has sailed, that's why I said mods š
its the job of all devs
stop using broken colors to compensate for broken per channel tonemapping

fucking nonsense
Hi, I just tried the nexusmod version and the latest snapshot version, but I only have the SDR preset, no HDR look or filmic. Is there something wrong with my setup?
Itās a bug that crops up from time to time and some mods/overlays make it worse. Just switch to windowed mode and back and it should be fixed
Are you by any chance using special k?
nope
HDR enabled in windows?
yes, and witcher 3 from gog
now after restarting PC I have the 3 presets Recommended Purist and Filmic o_O
can nvidia overlay broke things?
Do you have brightness sliders?
Sometimes yeah. I keep it disabled
now Yes, I have brightness slider too, before I saw only SDR preset and no sliders
Idk if it messes anything up here, I just know it does mess up mods every once in a while
It broke dying light with renodx iirc

Havenāt played DL yet
Never had any Reno break from NVIDIA overlay but good to know I suppose
maybe it's just the order in which you open the overlays that's breaking the GUI. I only use the overlay to see the FPS, watts, and frequencies.
oh, and by the way, thanks a lot for the support
This reminds me, in case anybody wants to know, this is the math for what peak value that slider maps to.
float calculated_peak = (0.01f * pow(100.f - CUSTOM_SCENE_GRADE_PER_CHANNEL_BLOWOUT, 2.f));
1 = SDR
90 = SDR ?
Yes
SDR strictly speaking, not necessarily what the gameās tonemapper does
Hm, actually that gives me an ideaā¦
Yeah if this works how Iām thinking, might just solve the cursed candles
Will have to test today
alright I may have cooked
I'll have to change the value used in presets after a bit of testing, but this is a winner
- change per channel blowout slider to be modified by vanilla midgray and peak
a value of 90 is pretty much a perfect match for SDR hues, should someone want that. No need for the hue correction slider now I guess
edit: nah 90's not ideal at all, it desaturates more
this change seems to make it so 80-85 would be ideal I think?
obligatory @cold basin. Try it out with hue correction at 0
doing this should also make it so per channel basically has no purpose being offered anymore since it was never an option for me to do something like this with it
hmmm maybe I should try dice instead
Nah this seems to be the way to go.
decided to try this one but seeing this. Only filmic preset is fine
the per channel option was broken in that one I found out
I didn't see that with max channel
aaah
got the gamut unclamped. Doesn't actually look very different in practice but measurements go crazy
Bet thatās only shadowed area gamut xd
Interesting Iāll try it out tonight
I'll probably have another build lol
and yeah it's mostly in shadow, but also sky/fire pushes it
taking another crack at the photo mode shader now
I get the green stuff on Max Channel, too. For me it is like what Nostromo said: presets (1) Recommended and (2) Purist have green artifacts. Only preset (3) Filmic does not.
Anyone come across bushes appearing lit while in shadow with RT Shadows on? I'm guessing the only fix is turning RT Shadows off
RT Shadows = off
Yes, affects pickable plants. Halk Hogan from HDRP said itās an issue with NG, unfixable
did you try the RT improvement mod
Yeah, I've tried a few options, thanks for the suggestion though. I shall soldier on with RT Shadows turned off.
Donāt use RT shadows. They are broken
And itās free fps for better visual quality
me thinks there were drawbacks to either shadow variant, though I forgot what the worst aspect of the non-RT shadows were. Possibly more shadow flickering? I'll play a bit maybe I'm lucky and not notice.
I always found issues with both nonRT and RT shadows. Overall RT shadows is worth it IMO. This NG update is just an absolute mess so it is what it is
did you remove the mod from nexus? was just about to try it lool
this fixes most issues with rt shadows
https://www.nexusmods.com/witcher3/mods/8865
Yes, forget it. I'm about to finish the final version, completely different.

soon?
photo mode "fixed" in the sense that I've disabled their vignette and grading sliders (I doubt either will be missed)
Frankly I lack the patience to get it working properly and so did CDPR
- unlock native WCG
- fix invalid artifacts
- fix photo mode
you'll need a higher setting than before
higher settings of what
per channel blowout
it's entirely possible I jumped the gun on getting excited about this lol
but in any case, WCG is here now and artifacts should be fixed
also limited the per channel blowout slider to 90 cause anythiing higher than that was a mistake anyway (less than sdr)
if 80-85 still leaves the candle pink in that one test room, there's no point in doing this
well yeah I just mean it might as well be a fixed peak instead
wym
I made the per channel blowout peak dynamic relative to the vanilla peak
2deep4me
basically 90 will always tonemap to the vanilla tonemapper's peak (that doesn't mean it looks exactly like it though)
yeah
also because I'm doing this, it's running in a different spot and has a different interaction with color grading sliders
I don't think it's a good thing but it really just depends on perspective I guess
basically increasing highlights/contrast/hdr boost won't be affected by the per channel blowout
Kek been playing 200 hours or so the last 3 weeks on steam and im only just now getting done doing everything in novigrad and preparing to go to skellige
in my playthrough I'm only just now in crookback bog lmao
at this rate I'll be at 500 total hours when im done
if not more
doesnt help that im fiddling alot with photo mode for screenshots when im not messing with reno

bro wtf
i did four 100% playthroughs since the game came and i only have like 400 hours
i think i only actually have 90 hours or so stated in the stats menu
HUH
well tbf im taking my sweet time
i dont quick travel all the time for example
i often just go by horse/foot
it also doesnt help that i have to read up on some things or replay certain quests because i realize oh shit i cant actually get all achievements if i do something this way

I was excited to be out of the test build mines and then went and did things
stupid SDR support
(actually super glad I got WCG unlocked finally though)
whats native WCG do
basically nothing meaningful honestly
shadow saturation looks a little more natural but literally nobody would notice
?
...is this a photo mode thing?
nah, works for me
maybe I'm stupid and didn't rebuild when I thought I did, one sec
nah the build is up to date

where are you?
I actually did see the menu issues a bit ago
probably something else I have to fix now that the color before it isn't getting clamped to bt709
the nans that i see in game are like overlayed on the menus
if i have 90 blow out max i can do is 40 hue correction, otherwise its fucked
actually nah even less
the problem won't be related to those things most likely
well if my fucking nvidia overlay would record
i could show you

i love when this happens
prolly have to restart my pc
even though i literally just turned it on right before testing
bit of a bigger video sorry
@stark anvil
yeah I'm seeing it here. Pretty sure it's a problem with some blending that happens with this unclamped, trying to fix
been sitting here trying to fix it in the wrong permutation
wondering why nothing does anything

^really not an expert here with all those terms but 3.0 onwards really looks better for both presets
poggies
red smear vs piss smear
