#Arizona WESD vs ACU (Education, Religion)

There are a few things I find strange..
Side note kind of.. The ADF news article (ADF being the attorneys representing ACU) mention that all five board members voted unanimously to terminate the district’s relationship with ACU because of its religious beliefs. I find it interesting they say terminate here, when it's actually "decided to not renew" the agreement. Big difference between terminate (breaking a contract) and nonrenewal.

Maybe someone else can enlighten me.. How is a decision to not renew an agreement a violation of the US Constitution and state law protecting a school's religious freedom? Even if WESD says it's due to religious reasons, is WESD not allowed to decide a partnership isn't right for the school district?

So theoretically it could be seen as violating the right to practice religion, which is where the US constitution comes in. However, that is a stretch at best, so it probably won't actually hold up. That isn't the point though, if I had to guess. ACU is throwing a fit and garnering attention, which in turn gets people, including those people who think that not being allowed to harass and punish LGBTQ+ people means they're being discriminated against, to be loud. They're probably hoping to intimidate the school board, but i could be mistaken.

It's always amusing when the organisations with names like "Defence of Freedom" are whining that they're unable to impede other's freedom.

The goal of ACU is to throw a fit in hopes that people don't look into it beyond "they're removing Religion from our Schools!!!!"

I also wanna point out that they’re crying about religious freedom being in the constitution, but isn’t separation of church and state in there also? Correct me if I’m wrong, but WESD is a public school district and therefore part of the state, so isn’t it constitutional to keep them separate from ACU, a private and religion based school?

If you changed up the script, it's like..
Roommate A doesn't renew contract with Roommate B because Roommate B is hardcore religious and is (by ACU's handbook) devoted to evangelism without ceasing..

Roommate B decides to make a lawsuit saying Roommate A has to accept the contract, and furthermore can never terminate, rescind, or refuse future contracts due to "religious status, exercise, or expression" of Roommate B..

Meanwhile Roommate A over there like.. "Bruh, we don't get along, and you're an asshole.." karaSweat

I actually have a friend who's basically in that situation re: roommtes

This should have been a simple case. "We didn't renew the agreement because we felt it wasn't a good fit." the end.

It’s never that easy though, especially when evangelicals are involved karaShrug

That and it's an elected school board, so probably had to explain reasons to end an 11 year program.
