You mention you had to make the background black because of transparent pixels. Are you referring to the problem with the blender glare node and it not influencing the alpha?
There is that -- that problem stems from an issue with premultiplied alpha which I have absolutely no idea why that's still a thing after all these years
but I added the glow in After Effects, not Blender
But like, this is the exact same thing made into a gif with no background
it has a cutoff for transparent pixels, because .gif doesn't support semitransparent pixels -- or at least, not the tool I use to make .gifs
I usually make my gifs with premier pro and then photoshop XD
not sure how alpha is handled there
but yeah gifs usually suck
yeah i dont think gif supports anything but cutoff alpha
