I guess linked ore would be a single entity covering the entire ore patch, instead of one for each tile. Then a single miner can mine out the whole ore patch without being moved.

That sounds difficult to implement
Maybe less so now that resource patches can be pinned?
Don't know how that's done behind the scenes
