connection issues when me and friend try to join each other

When me or my friend try to join each other one of two things would happen. One it will say "could not establish connection" when one of us try to join. Second some times it will let one of join but the latency will be high and start to increase until it forces a disconnect. this happens if either of host, also tried hosting a dedicated sever with the same result. both of can join other severs through the browser no problem but have issues when try to connect to each other. is this only started happening with this update. is this a bug that we are just going to have to wait for a update for, or is there anything I can do to fix it?

also have tried hosting from a newly installed .zip download with same issues

Did this work fine before ?
How far are you from each other ?
Are you playing on a big save (maybe screen the base)?

Worked fine before space age. A few states but have played before without issues on this and other games. And this was a new save.
