I use 32x32 chunk grid, Here are some rail modules I have designed. I can't really see how to strip the 4 way to straight rail while leaving regular signals in place because there are none (because I use signals at the beginning of each block). When I place straight rails next to 4-way, there gets placed a regular signal at the 4way exit

What size trains are you using?

4, two headed locomotives and 2 wagons

32x32 grid is a bit small for that

#

One of the important rules of signaling is that the block starting with a rail signal after an intersection is large enough to fit your largest train

#

Otherwise you add a chance of deadlock

yeah, I know

#

it works with my book, as long as I replace regular signals with chain signals where needed

But you wanna avoid that right? :p

yeah

To avoid that you gotta elongate your 4 way intersection, get some rail signals on the exit. Long enough to fit your largest train between 2 of them

#

It’s the only way I know to never touch signals + good throughput + no deadlock risk + paste junctions on top of other track

#

It’s a long list of constraints:D.

#

The ‘grid pieces begin with signals’ thing is also setting you back here

#

Imo the connection between grid pieces should have no signals, the combination of 2 grid pieces should fit a train in one signal block

#

Personally I use a 32x32 grid rn, with 1-1 trains

#

They just barely have space to fit these constraints because the 4 way intersection I use is small

Good points, I will remember that for next time. I am a bit stuck with using my system, unless I decide to redo everything. I chose small grid size to have more flexibility with smaller rail setups

Yea smaller grid size definitely gets more flexible, that’s why I have 1-1 trains on mine

#

Super flexible

#

But unfortunately the grid size does kinda want to reflect train size for max convenience
