#Trying to set up a starter/mid oil district / liquid bus

I am trying to get the best out of refineries.
But I'm pretty sure I don't have the correct ratios and/or a decent amount of oil.
I played a bit to learn the basics in editor mode, and I came up with a tilable blueprint.
In this Thread's images I added the oil sources I had and the tilable blueprint.

I'm asking for suggestions on it, am I doing anything wrong? Am I missing something?

Honestly I really really like this setup

If you like the setup then run with it.
You are gonna hit a few problems though :

  • you need way more refineries, like at least 3 times more than what you have, to provide for all the chemical plant you have here
  • if you don't consume enough lube, it's gonna back up the heavy oil and you won't be able to refine the oil. So you should setup some cracking controled by circuit to handle the excess heavy.
  • you are gonna need the ligh late game, for the rocket fuel.

So the first issue is that there are too little refineries.
The second issue is that there's gonna be excess heavy which will stop production.
The third is that it really does output 0 light oil.

To these issues I have the following questions:
Should the liquid bus have light oil too? If yes, do I just remove the water?

Also is this what an Oil district is? Am I doing it wrong? I feel like I'm doing it wrong, but it also feels like I don't have the oil resources for more.

Also I've seen people use liquid tanks too, maybe I should just have tanks at home filled by liquid trains instead of trying to add an oil district parcel right next to the bus

Should you put light oil on the bus ?
Up to you, it's only for rocket fuel (and solid fuel if you want to use it too) so you should be fine with pushing it where it is needed directly, skipping the bus.

Are you doing it wrong ?
Right and wrong in this game is difficult to evaluate, because we all have different goals in mind. But your feeling is valid, it just comes from doing something you don't understand fully yet.
So go ahead, make mistakes, and learn from them, and at some point you'll gain confidence and this feeling will pass.

for 75 spm without beacons/modules, this is what you need.
Lube would be 0.7 ChemPlant

There's something about seeing 14.2 belts of iron scaring the heart out of me.

Don't worry, it's just yellow belts. With full productivity modules it'll be a lot less. And most of that is going towards space science too.

#

without space science it's 9.4

#

without space science and all beacons it's 3.9
