A polished item should be handled with care.

Dropping it from a height larger than a ledge (even on a conveyor) makes scratches. Too many items on a conveyor scratches them. Any physical machine scratches it (apart from the polisher and the packager). Shooting it with a cannon scratches it. You get the idea...

I honestly thought it already worked like that. Although I think it would make sense to specifically apply this to metals rather than gems as well (it's pretty hard to scratch up a diamond, after all)

Also, on that same topic, a polished ingot ran through the rolling mill, should not come out as polished plate.

How you explain it to the player? "This is a physics based game. Duh!"
