I have no idea why this happens. I'm dropping the coal onto the shaker table but some pieces get stuck inside it instead. I only noticed because it started spilling to the side

also, some iron, which is coming down the left chute, inexplicably ended up on the rock behind the chutes. I think it's an issue with the chutes

I've looked down the chutes for a bit to see if I can spot it happening and it seems the items bounce around quite a bit, could be related to that

Items falling in straight chutes from great heights get quite fast, so that they sometimes knock themself through the surface they fall onto. To avoid that I use not straight chutes but use "zig zag" chutes build with angled chutes. In these the items do not get so fast.

that makes sense, but the rock ledge is higher up than the bottom of the chute
