You should be able to without needing to pre-format your drive.
As a quick sidenote, I believe DHH did recommend using Balena-etcher and not Roofus in the walkthrough video, but I'm not sure if that would cause an issue.
I would check anything in the BIOS first and maybe look up your specific drive (I'm not sure what drive/setup you have). You shouldn't need to pre-format your drive though
