Basically a collection of vaguely specific, western-era themed weapons I figured would be nice and help to fit in as archetypes, while still fitting within the theme and look of the game.

#
  1. Double-Barreled Shotgun and Bison Gun (Batching because of a lot of mechanical similarity):
  • A two-shot shrapnel shotgun and a single-shot rifle
  • Both fill the niche of high damage, low ammo count guns that the long ranger barely touches, offering a lot of intersectional synergy for building around ammo count related jokers
  • In compensating for its low ammo count, the Shotgun can benefit from a very quick and full reload, but will waste ammo if reloaded early, along with giving it high knockback. In this, it could also just be designed as a sawwed-off secondary.
  • In compensating for its low ammo count without just making it a heavier Long Ranger, the Bison Gun could benefit from technically having piercing in instead, after hitting an enemy, releasing a shrapnel blast out the back of it.
  • Also give the Shotgun a singular upgrade slot for its magazine to go up to three for no other reason than for when someone disses your fly girl
#
  1. Rail Hammer:
  • Large railroad sledgehammer for primary slot
  • slow swings with heavy, wide sweeps
  • secondary/charge attack (I assume melee weapons are going to use the aim button for such) is a downward smash that can hit a singular target for high damage if timed right.
#
  1. Knife:
  • Combat Knife for secondary slot
  • It's a knife that you stab enemies with
  • Alt attack stabs harderer
#
  1. Butcher's Cleaver:
  • Secondary slot cleaver melee weapon
  • Wide attack angles that alternate from side to side
  • Create temporary "gore" drops from enemies that alt attack can use for the fuel of a frenzy charge
#
  1. Fireworks Bundle:
  • Basically a hive-type rocket launcher secondary weapon (Because explosions mean it's forced to be elemental)
  • low ammo reserves, full mag dump on fire, full chaos
  • Probably a terrible idea given friendly fire
  • Will almost certainly kill the player or their teammates
#
  1. Bayonetted bullpup:
  • Melee primary spear-type weapon, a gun with a bayonet
  • Has ammo that allows it to create explosions on stabs
  • Can't fire like an actual gun because the trigger is the bayonet
#
  1. Dual-Cylinder:
  • Basically an SMG version of the Quad-Cylinder.
  • Mostly just fills out that niche
  • The cylinders are like those weird ones where the gunsmiths tried fitting 28 bullets in a single cylinder
  • As such, could have a unique joker for firing multiple rounds at once

Honestly I got some inspiration form your list. but a Hatchet as a weapon, or even a Bowie Knife.

Bowie Knife would kind of just fit into the knife, but Hatchet I can make a thing for.

#

Reminded me I was gonna do a machete too.

I do rly hope they add some melee content, ideally a weapon but even just jokers would be nice

  1. Hatchet:
  • Melee Secondary
  • Diagonal Sweep
  • Alt fire throws it for high damage, and it can't be used until you get it back or pick up secondary ammo, like the sheriff stars
#
  1. Machete:
  • Melee Secondary
  • Wide sweeps with fast attack speed, acting as a midrange between the hammer and the knife
  • Alt fire is a Jason Vorhees style stab or downward swing
#
  1. Fist Weapon (either brass knuckles or boxing gloves made out of cacti):
  • Melee secondary
  • Close range punches. Tap for jabs, hold to charge straights.
  • Attacks technically have zero sweep, but can be used like haymakers by swinging the camera mid-attack
  • Alt attack dodges left or right depending on movement, or backwards if neither. If holding a punch, releases it mid-dodge as a hook
  • Should have a skin where instead of the character punching, it's being done by a cryptic spirit standing behind them 「MENACINGLY」 (Or just throw all seriousness out the window and make that the weapon)

what about a whip? It would work as a medium range melee weapon.

It could be a chain whip as people want a Ghost rider outfit and I would think an elemental chain whip would fit perfectly.

  1. Chained Whip:
  • Medium range melee secondary
  • straight-line damage hitbox with maximum damage at the tip sweetspot
  • alt-fire creates elemental burst at sweetspot instead with no sweep.
#
  1. The Ribbler:
  • Cryptic-themed boomerang-type carbine.
  • Basically a ribcage machine gun that shoots ribs that acts like mini (in terms of size and lingering time) boomerangs, or can ricochet once
  • Balance with low base damage and mag count
  • Allows the player to yell "It's Ribblin' time!" and then ribble all over everyone.

  1. Phase Gun:
  • Zurker-themed secondary pistol
  • Low-damage elemental DoT focused weapon
  • creates a slow-moving field projectile when fired

Something dumb I just realized, the melee weapons would probably have three modes of attack since the melee button wouldn't make sense to keep tacked onto fists.

Since we already got a bow in the game, why not a crossbow that fires a horse-shoe that bounces rapidly between enemies. Secondary for funny elemental CC but low ammo pool, perhaps can recover ammo, but might take away from the throwing stars, so who knows how this can be changed.

Just kinda came up with that on the spot lmao

As for a melee idea, someone mentioned a bowie knife, I was thinking of my own take on it, but for replacing your V melee instead with a sweeping/stabbing knife that attacks slower overall than the fist.

Basically compared to fists, you'd be able to get 2 punches before your first swing the bowie, the only thing I can think of in terms of attacking is a slash((AOE)/slash(AOE)/stab combo (damage varies if you can score the combo back to back)? Just need to figure out a good nickname for "shortsword of the west" in FFW style lol

Like I could see it being a thing-

For some maybe 2-handed style melee weapon?

But yeah, I was just thinking of logically replacing fists even though some suggested taking your secondary instead.

quiet heron
#

Literally regardless of it being primary or secondary, the melee button would have to instead initiate the melee weapon instead of fists

#

It's not rocket science. I don't see how you can't understand that.

#

But yes, melee weapons should be weapons

#

Primary or secondary

#

Hence why most of these entries? Even for the melee, list such.

modern vortex
#

Melee weapons feel like they should be a secondary weapon as they would be good for lifesteal and added elemental damage.

Yes,that's quite literally what I've said this whole thread. Some can be primaries, however.
