but from game design PoV, not much you can do for team / party comp that constantly consist of Tank (shrug off damage or be undying regen), DPS (fighter, ranger, damage mage) and Support (healer, buffer/defuffer, etc.)

they could give NPC-esque characters more spotlight that do jobs like merchant, muse bard, innkeeper, or guild staffs, that run the town and support the whole operation of adventuring, dungeoneering, so on

I mean part of the reason for the trinity stems from them wanting the enemy to do damage values that outscale most players mitigation

If your combat is less about hp loss and more about positional stuff and effects that alter gameplay then you've just abolished the entire reason tanks exist

For example. You have a set amount of abilities you can equip. Let's say 8 slots. 2 defense, 2 support, 2 offense, and then 2 free slots which can also be a specific category of their own. Then the big raid bosses can do things like disable or invert abilities in certain slots

Mayhaps the combat also involves a bunch of stances, buffs\debuffs which cause extra effects to proc

And in this idea "defense" includes any kind of mitigation, including healing. "Support" includes things that effect other players, including buff\debuffs and healing

These kinds of games exist. They're just hard to make and exponetially harder to make good. Mangakas don't need to make games or more importantly design anything beyond what we see. And what they do design doesnt have to be good to play, just needs to look good.

Project Gorgon for example has no classes it's all based on what weapon you have equipped and how much you've levelled it. It's a game that on paper checks a lot of the boxes that mmos in anime and manga describe. However the game is janky clunky mess. Granted it's a two person passion project.
