The item IDs got changed out from under them. All new items will be loaded correctly.
@naive drum Is there a way to fix the item id's so they can go back to what they're actually suppose to be or am I just screwed and need to start new?

Fragglrock, you can try temporarily removing it to see if that was the cause
i think you can remove the bit of content.json that has that, or see if there's an Earth REcolour Compatibilty Mode on the NPC Map Locations side
Yea if there's no config and it was the cause, you'd have to edit the content.json itself
assuming NPC Map Locations doesn't have a compat mode that does dependency stuff to fix it
So, question is, did you want to keep using the recolor, or did you want to just not use it? 👀

@naive drum About 4 minutes. It usually says it doesn't respond but about 10 secs in, everything is working and stuff begins to crash due to like some mods not liking multiplayer. First time this happened really

Depending on the mod you either drop the new version over the old version (overwriting ir) or delete old version and install new version
If it says "delete first", or is a JA mod, delete first. If it has a config you changed and does not specify otherwise, overwrite.

Are there cp mods for a different looking shed/slime hutch? I liked Elle's seasonal buildings but I wasn't a fan of the shed or slime hutch, so I simply use the vanilla, but I really hate how those two buildings stick out like sore thumbs.

hi - I need a little help configuring a mod - I just installed the seasonal villager outfits and downloaded the alternative portrait styles for elliott and for the life of me I can't figure out how to pick which one of the 3 portraits available in the alternative I want to use - do I just need to replace the portrait on the mod? I've read through the github and while I see the name, I don't see where to pick the option. The config file I am getting (the one that generates when you load the game) does not give me an option to pick what portrait I want to use. I feel like I am missing something but I cant figure out what. Any help would be appreciated.
@dusky gate it looks like the Elliot portraits are a seperate CP download

I've been trying to google the answer - closest I can think of is typing myself in the config "ElliottPortraitStyle": "FrontFacingSabreene",
but I would have imagined the option would show up so I could just type in which portrait option I want to use
I think the easiest think might be to go into the download file and just copy the files for the eliott portrait you want and replace the files inside the seasonal villager package
It should be a config option like you outlined but I'm not familiar with how th emod works and haven't added new commands outside of what's created already so I'd try just replacing the files to see if it works, keeping a back up of the original incase
@dusky gate looking at the download it should generate a config.json after you have launched the game with the mod installed. then you can modify the config.json to choose a portrait style (FrontFacingEemie, FrontFacingLumen, FrontFacingSabreene)
or use the generic mod config menu for it
that's what I expected @shy orbit but the config is not giving me the option. I also installed the generic mod config and it doesn't show up

Have you checked around to see if a CP conversion has been made?
We don't recommend using xnb mods
(but if you do ever break stuff by using them, you can easily revert everything and fix it)

never mind- I figured it out the issue and now it works. The problem was I had added the alternative packs folders inside the seasonal villager outfits folder and I guess it was not reading it. I put it directly in the mods folder and now it works. I've loaded the game now and it even shows up on the generic mod config menu. Thank you so much for everyone that tried to help.

@clear phoenix in case you didn't solve the issue, i've couple of basically random suggestions to try: use reset terrain features to reset bushes and trees in case there might be something blocking his path, remove expanded preconditions utility, remove immersive shane

When you start the game, SMAPI will alert you to any mods that have updates available

But you'll need to grab the updates yourself
If you upload your log with the update alerts to https://smapi.io/log, it will turn the purple alert text into nicely formatted hyperlinks to each mod page

you can navigate directly to the file from the site with the "choose a file" option, it's probably better than copy-paste

@woeful matrix to answer your question, we recommend manual installation of mods overall, but if you want to use a mod manager, use ModDrop over Vortex. Vortex may work well with other games but is especially quirky with Stardew Valley for some reason, with messing up manifest.json files (as you saw) and occasionally config.json files

I have come seeking help with installing SMAPI on Linux, more specifically Manjaro.
The issue I'm encountering is, when trying to run StardewValley (I followed the manual installation guide) using the command line ./'StardewValley', I recieve an error, the highlight of which is:
cp: cannot stat 'StardewValley.bin.x86_64`: No such file or directory
any help would be much appreciated

You should see the retextures but they won't

@austere junco I'm not a Linux person and don't know much at all about manual install, so I might not be much help here. But sometimes we see similar things for players whose antivirus is inadvertently removing executable files. Maybe that's a possibility?

Yea @ancient compass I use Custom Furniture and then the CF versions of Industrial Furniture Set, Seaside Interior, and Witch Furniture
that way it doesn treplace but let's you buy the ones you want
... Hopefully an actual Linux guru will stop by sometime soon

right once you've updated Smapi, go to Nexus and find the other mods. There are two ways to update them: delete the original and reinstall or over-write.
follow the instructions on the mod pages: most will require you to drag and drop the folder into the Mods folder.
If they ask you to drag it into the Contents folder, DON'T install it!
so to overwrite i just install it again correct
and make sure all your other players update too
will do
you can drag it over the mods folder and it should replace what is already in there.

that way avoids some issues esp if the creator has changed files dramatically
so if it says "Do NOT OVerwrite" it's best to delete then reinstall

I hven't actually used this myself though so hopefully it works/is respectful
I use and like that mod, I also recommend No More Dialogue Differences, available on nexus. They are compatible and work well together 
CFDE has a gender neutral patch as well if you want to expand the vanilla dialogue without breaking the immersion, though it does have a few minor typos.
Is there a mod that improves the shipping bin? Something that lets me go back later in the day and grab something back if I’ve changed my mind?

Is there any way to get mods on the switch version without a hacked/jailbroken/homebrew switch? Tried looking for answers and can't find any (any type of mods, from those that are texture changes to using SMAPI)
Not at all, unfortunately. Nintendo doesn't have any official way to mod on Switch without jailbreaking the Switch. 🙁

Most of us don’t really know what’s up either. Him getting stuck on that tree defies everything I know about how pathing is written for the game.
i tried to like clear all of the trees in the town but it didn’t clear that specific tree so now i’m just like 👁👁 just want this man to make it past harvey’s one day u know
Given direction and location, it seems to imply that he’s come there from the bus stop.
yeah, he walks from the bus stop but never makes it past that tree
And there’s something about that that has caused a circular path.
They only walk straight forward like that when something has gone wrong during warping.
he used to get stuck like at the very beginning of the bus stop route (like where you’d warp into the bus stop from the farm) but now he seems to manage getting past that bit and instead stops at the tree

Okay. So. He should not be leaving the stone path at all. NPCs have preference for certain types of ground to walk on and will only ever go on grass as a last resort to get to a location. This is how I know that it has to be a warp issue destroying his pathing as soon as he gets to town.
i reinstalled SDVE and the same issue was happening, haven’t altered any code or everything and nothing seems to come up in the log abt it (not that i understand code but)
I've seen a video of a character doing the walk-in-a-straight-line-through-everything behaviour that wasn't a warp issue but that involved doing shenanigans involving planting trees in such a way that they completely blocked the NPC's usual path
so it still destroyed their pathing, it was just "because there was trees blocking the path and the NPC couldn't get past"
so...idk make sure there's no trees in front of doors?
i can’t get rid of the tree by harvey’s, the only other thing i can think of is the sdve’s placing of the uh. adventurer’s guild that’s not allowing him to stand near there
which begs the question: surely they would have implemented a different spot for him to stand in that isn’t right on top / near the adventurer’s guild

Also if you remove it that day it wont fix the issue. Pathing is calculated before the day starts for farmer

Hey anyone want low effort wood? Install SVE or a mod that adds a ton of new trees and wait until lots of ppl are going into the forest or mountain, reset terrain features so the trees grow and hear all the npcs walk through them. Then pick up the wood.

Manual install and take the bugs up with the Vortex developers. Most mod makers don't trust Vortex to begin with.

@pine ledge Yep, on the day your spouse heads out, edit the bus stop path with trees (via pathing layer) and do a terrain reset before they leave the house.

Layer switching. Have a map property that says "I need wood" and hitting a tile triggers moving whatever invisible layer down to paths.
And then u layer reset and hit the "I need wood" button again so it's back to default. :3
Unless assuming terrain reset will regrow all the trees while you're at the busstop. 🤔

oh wait, there was one thing but that waas because all NPCs liked to walk through the beach route at that point so I had to cut back a stage in the schedule, cos it took too long to walk from farmhouse to ranch

Since I upgraded my PC, I've noticed that the screen doesn't seem to move with me as smoothly as it used to. It just seems to stutter a bit, I guess?
I'm wondering if it's soemthing to do with settings. This beast is a lot more capable than my old machine.
(also it seems okay in Vanilla so it might be the effect of 300 mods)

I'm sure i have it installed. I was able to load it, join my friend's server, and get past the character select screen. Saw all of the new customization options and all.

if you have SVE then you already have JsonAssets! You might need Tailor Mouse though, as many clothing mods have tailor mouse sell the clohtes
or if you have CJBItemSpawner you can just spawn the clothes in, whichever you prefer
i use customize anywhere to grab clothes i think
(you can install the clothing mods without tailor mouse but without anyone selling the clothes you'll need Customize Anywhere or an item spawner to get the clothes)

SMAPI ignores zips, but will look in subfolders until it finds a manifest.json, runs out of subfolders, or runs into the OS filepath size limit
(someone actually did hit the filepath size limit with nested subfolders once, all the subfolders were named like nexus zips)
when walking to the right of the desert into the warp to the "Walk to Desert" mod's location, I got infinitely looping sauvignon in stardew and npc adventures errors

Looks like you're missing a mod required by Looking for Love, and you seem to have a folder or two in there that might not actually be mods so SMAPI tries to load them and gets confused

it's not necessarily a problem that there are multiple folders with expanded in the name, because SVE has multiple parts to it and they are spread to multiple folders

For the first, the issue seems to be that they don’t have LfL at all but have downloaded a compatible SVO patch anyway
@languid pivot trying to clarify this, if you look on https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5044?tab=files it has 3 downloads, 1 main one and two optional ones. you only need the main download, and optionally the first optional download (Get Dressed Pack) . the second optional download is the template that isn't useful in this context

@keen moss honestly, the regular version fits in perfectly next to Andy's farm—the only blip is that the initial letter directs you to the arrowhead-shaped island, which I don't think exists in SVE. I haven't tried the SVE version at all, because it was old enough that I tried the regular one first just to see and then it worked. 🙂
Initially it was moved over in the SVE version because there was a big tree in the middle of Tailor Mouse but if this has been fixed I can retire the SVE version.

Oh, the SVE version of Tailor Mouse was removed awhile ago it looks like. It's still on the Nexus page but under the old versions. That shouldn't be being touched unless you need an old version for some reason.

yeah i remember SDV running just fine with the previous mods and also a few others without Ambient Light but now it just slows and almost nearly crashes and it's a bit annoying ngl

You can have both. Delete any folder with "Stardew Valley Expanded", "[SVE]" AND "Karmylla's Immersive Maps" in their name and then do a complete reinstall.

I’ve noticed how SVE is so popular.
However whenever I try to do visual changes like the design of my house and or furniture it makes the frame rate of the game go super choppy.

However I did take all the visual mods out and kept the SDVE in there and left it at that before I went in.

okay, I'm done restarting- i need help installing 1 thing
So I'm looking at mods that tweak time, after playing a bit of vanilla multiplayer its become super obvious that we need something, the base game is surprisingly lacking in how it handles time for multiple players.
Someone suggested "Multiplayer Time", is that... enough, do you think?
I'm trying to run the immersive farm 2 remastered mod, and when I run SMAPI I have no errors. But the map stays on the default farm, not sure what I might be doing wrong
If I add in say, "TimeSpeed" to universally slow things down, would that be too much?
I think it is. I like it a lot. It's best for small groups with good communication. If you have a 15+ player co-op game, Multiplayer Time won't help you much
Calamardo, are you using the Standard farm map?
In which case I would suggest TimeSpeed set to around 14 tick speed (twice as slow as usual)

IF2R replaces the Standard map so if you're on, EG Four Corners, it wouldn't apply
Then Multiplayer Time is good 
but if you're using the Standard farm type and not seeing any IF2R stuff show up then

With Multiplayer Time mod, if someone hits a cutscene, or needs some time to buy from a shop or organize a chest, they can just holler to the other players "inventories up plz!" and the game will pause.

Yeah, we ran into a late-night cutscene (with Shane, I think?) and the player passed out in the middle of it
There's a little HUD thing that shows you how many of the online players are currently in pause-type situations
That's actually what triggered us moving to mods

@dire fractal most mods can be added without any issue on an existing save. Some have special instructions, and only very few will not work at all.
