Hi everyone, so I want to use Refugee NPCs + the unofficial TMX conversion. My question is, if I wanted to remove an NPC I don't want, I would simply edit the content.json and remove any traces of said NPC, correct?
I think it should work. Might as well check the events and delete if the NPC meant to appear in any of them
Hopefully that's included in the "any trace" part, since you will definitely have issues if there are events triggered with NPCs that don't exist.

I don't know if there's a guide yet, but basically, you'd want to go through all the dialog mods you're trying to merge, and check that they don't have dialog for the same condition for the same NPC. For example, both mods don't give Shane dialog on summer_4. If they do, you can:
- change the condition for one of them, referring to this site, so you can see both lines https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Dialogue
- pick which line you like best, and comment out the dialog line you don't like by adding
//at the beginning- accept that 1 will load and the other one won't. Which mod "wins" depends on load order, which is alphabetical. Whichever mod loads last (Z will load after A, for example), "wins", and that's the dialog you'll see.
-you could also get fancy with it and add a dependency, to change the load order so it doesn't strictly follow the alphabetical order.

Hi there, so I'm finding this list a little confusing but I think I got it! It looks like I just don't meet the friendship reequirements with Marnie yet! Thanks! I was converting a multiplayer save file form a few years back from CFR to PFM, and I was worried there had been some complications that corrupted the save. If I remember right, back when we made this farm, you couldn't yet gate recipes by friendship level or farming skill! This is really cool and exciting. Thanks for the refernce sheet!

Yes, there is a combined Cuter Fatter Animals mod that includes dinos and chonkins, and that is what I have installed. I think I got it from the dino page but it may be elsewhere as well

ah, you're using dcburger portraits... yeah that would put a damper on matching everything up
You don't have to use it for that though, it's just simplest if all you want to do is drop a png in and you don't care about stuff like seasonal and all that (or having to pick a set). PyTK lets you use high res anything via CP, so it's the better option in lots of cases.
Someone could make a full overhaul of the entire game using ScaleUp, couldn't they... but the work would be insane

You might want to get rid of that. Error Items are items with either broken IDs or no IDs at all, it may have just been a little bug however.

Hey, I had a quick question. Is it better to fully uninstall mods and reinstall when updating them?
So this isn't a 'it broke help' more of a... why isn't it doing what it should be?
I have 'seasonal paths' installed and while it shows up as a properly colored thumbnail in the crafting tab when I put it down it is the default. I do have a shader on but it should only be affecting the ground tilesheet and not the actual items. I also have seasonal fences which works fine! It might be a load order issue or something idk but it's kinda annoying

@boreal cradle most mod makers suggest/tell you to do that. In the case of big mods (SDVE, Mermaid Island, CP, TXML etc) I do because changes might need to actually be made fresh. But for smaller ones I don't always. Like if my pretty grass mod gets an update I just overwrite it
I wouldn't say most mod makers suggest it - quite the opposite.
Very few mod makers will suggest it, because it's almost never necessary. If it is necessary, the mod page should tell you.
You also need to worry about transferring over any config settings you edited if you do a complete uninstall and replace
Frameworks like CP or TMXL will almost never require it btw
It's most commonly seen with mods that use a collection of content packs for different frameworks.

Hmm, @covert glade for your issue can you open your game and use a floor tile on the ground, then type patch summary in the smapi console and share the new log from it? That will help track it down
Yeah. It happens when mod makers restructure things in such a way that having old copies of unused/renamed files could cause the new ones not to load for example. The only major case I'm aware of is SVE, and even then you only need to uninstall if you're updating from an old (v.1.9.6 or earlier) version to a newer version.
Once you have any newer version, updates after that can just overwrite without issue.

Seasonal Floorings is Loading the asset, which means that Starblue Valley's edits will always apply afterwards regardless of mod load order - unless you go in and edit the patch in the Seasonal Floorings content.json
if I just took the flooring out of the starblue folder would that work?
um, maybe, maybe not. Depending on how the Starblue Valley patches are set up it might cause errors instead

Yep. First Loads happen if any (and if there's more than one for an asset they will fail), then all Edits are applied on top of that as a base.

heyo for some reason it is saying i am having duplicate mods in my mod folder when starting up but when looking in my folder i have no copy's can anyone help?

The error message for this usually includes full filepaths to the duplicates
so for example
Mods\[JA] Fruits and Veggies (2.0.13)
Mods\PPJA Mega Pack\[PPJA] Fruits and Veggies\[JA] Fruits and Veggies (2.0.11)
That is the location of one pair of duplicates.
It looks like you installed the PPJA MegaPack (which contains several different mods) but then also installed individual copies of the same mods.

If you want an easy way to verify that you have the same mods/versions of mods for the ones that matter in multiplayer, this is a good tool for the host to use https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/6609
You can put like, cosmetic mods and others that don't matter in the config's IgnoredMods list.
But this way you can check the important ones like JA packs and others without needing to eyeball-compare your folders or smapi logs lol
So weird thing happened after I deleted starblue valley from my mods. The graphic for my workbench just... Disappeared. Like it's invisible. Any ideas????
Since the workbench was added in 1.4, the simplest explanation is that you have some mod installed (either in the Mods folder or replacing XNB files) that replaces the craftables sheet with one that isn't updated to include that sprite. When you had Starblue installed, it edited that sheet itself, probably for the purpose of recoloring same sprite, and made it show up in the process :D

Resetting doesn't touch your Mods folder in any way.
All it does is check your vanilla game files in the Content folder and look for ones that don't match the originals, then redownload those if they have changed. You don't have to do anything except click the button to do it.
Yup, the first thing to check is a game file reset. If that doesn't fix it, it sounds like you have an outdated content patcher mod that's using image assets from before v1.4
this is gonna be a long shot, but is a mod causing my barn animals to get a lil stuck coming out of the building? not indefinitely, they just take an in-game hour or two to all come out, while my coop animals walk out in a beeline just fine
one animal stops right in front of the door and blocks all the others, so for like 2 mins or so there's a constant "woopwoopwoop" of animals walking in and out and being blocked by each other

i don't know if a mod is causing it, but having grass that the animals can access might help with them staying close to the exit when they come out (as long as the grass isn't in front of the exit of course)

i've been too lazy to set down feeding posts but i guess now is a good a time as ever
i started setting them up when i used trent's animals that dig up geodes, they would constantly block the exit otherwise with them
@narrow wigeon any chance you have machines placed inside the barn near the wall where the warp tiles are? If one or more warp tiles is blocked or covered, that might explain why they're on the fritz
hmm i have an autograbber that's like 1 tile away from the wall, i'll see if moving that fixes things

Sophia loves fairy stones and likes most flowers (except I think daffodils are neutral?). That's the only one I know offhand. Somebody else might know where to find an actual reference, I'm sure one must exist. The Gift Taste Helper mod will show preferences for SVE NPCs, I do know that. ๐

Shirts, pants, and boots/shoes can be added to the game with Json Assets, Get Glam is for everything else.

i've been chaining storm days and using luck boosting items to get the most out of them, but i'm wondering if there's a point at which they stop being useful
in SVE you can get aged blue moon wine which gives you +7 luck, combine that with lucky lunch for a +10 or a rock candy for +12, and you can get a lot of luck, but it would be a bit pointless going that far if the game caps it at some point

hm i had inmersive farm before, but i wasnt using it on this save. sorry, i wasnt clear: id been using a few mods no prob for months, today it crashed on saving, so i erased everything i wasnt using, updated SVE, smapi and a couple more... and it still crashes

@daring light Just to clarify, you don't need any mod to change vanilla clothes anymore. 1.4 made clothing equippable items, so you just buy/craft shirts and pants and such and put them on instead of what you're wearing.
(Sometimes that is still news to people that played with Get Dressed/Kisekae for a long time, so just making sure!)

Depends, are the skins a smapi mod? If so, it's as easy as just dropping the skins folder into your Mods folder
(and installing Content Patcher, probably)
You can tell if something is a smapi mod by if it usually has a file inside the folder called manifest.json

XNB mods often break the game and are not recommended. You can use them still if you want, but it's a pain. You need to replace the game files inside you Content folder with the new ones
And they're notoriously hard to troubleshoot

Just be careful to stay in the frame. Grids are helpful when editing sprites. (A 16x16 pixel grid shows how they're made of same size boxes)

(You need to make sure it's a canvas resize and not an image rescale though, so it just gives you more room downward, vs changing how all the sprites look to fit)

I use GIMP personally, but that's only because I'm used to it. More people around here use paint.net, so there are probably more people to help with it. You need to save with the right dimensions and format to preserve transparency. At this point since you are editing sprites portraits, you might find people more familiar with that specific image editor in #making-mods-general .

hi i need some advice i have installed all the required mods and main mod for stardew valley expanded i extracted all files and moved them to the mods folder and when i load the game there is no red or yellow writing in the smapi loader but it keeps loading the original map not the expanded map and im not sure what to do i just did all this today from nexus so i know everything is up to date i also have some other mods installed and they are working but SVE is not any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hi everyone! I have a bit of a conflict. I use Starblue for tree reskins and also use Stardew Expanded. SDE adds decorative trees on boarders, in town, etc that can't be interacted with. These decorative trees use the default skin and not the Starblue skin that all other trees in the game use.
Interactable trees (Eg, Forest West) are all properly skinned. Any advise on where to look first?
ETA it's not only SDE's trees. Lunna: Adrift adds a small map for Lunna's house, and the decorative trees there have the same issue.

when i load the game brand new save file i press the map button to see the new map but it shows me the old map not the expanded version

You can launch the game directly from StardewValley.exe to launch vanilla with no mods, you don't have to move your mods folder

also Jack, there's no issue with adding Deep Woods to a save o.o did you have a specific concern? I think almost every mod can be added to an existing save, at most you might have to do some tweaks (like if you were adding Stardew Valley Expanded, SVE, which has specific install instructions for preparing an existing save)

This is mainly about changing any maps mid-save, since the debris is spawned at the game start. So if the layout of any vanilla map drastically changes, you need to use RTF or some other means of resetting to avoid stuff like trees in water and such.
Deep Woods just makes a tiny edit, though.

Has the tree limit been increase or not? I found out in "Populate Project JsonAssets Guide" it said we're currently at our tree limit, and all of the trees I see are from PPJA more trees mod, so if I download other mod relate to trees it will still have conflict?

Additionally, my farmhand spawns inside my house every morning/when he joins the game, but his camera is still inside his own house so I have to guide him outside, and his mail notifier appears over my mailbox instead of his (And these are new problems)

with adopt n skin, my horse duplicated itself seven times
same horse, same id, same hat, usually pooped out by my farm hand in weird places, like in my bed in my house
i caught most of the duplications on video lmao
adds "my farmhand is pooping out horses" to personal list of most amusing-sounding SDV mod glitches
Adopt n' Skin I know was not tested for multiplayer, the mod author has a forum tab in the mod page specifically for people to report issues with multiplayer, so provide these strange details, definitely the video lol, and logs
texture issues are my bed and the entire kitchen
furniture is in a new place every time i enter the house
also it keeps spawning the hanging flowers, which are a mod furniture that i havent bought any of,but since i like the flowers that's more of a note than a complaint

I think we can file that under "fun with Custom Furniture" 
that's because you're whistling for the horses most likely
try setting the horse whistle key to null, which... will not fully solve your farm full of horses but will at least make it so you don't get wildly pinged across the map
it happens if you don't whistle too but whistling makes it waaay worse
the kitchen textures might be 2 or more mods trying to change the kitchen (one may be by accident, especially if it's older than Nov 2019)
the author's looking into it but it's uh. a lot to figure out why it's even happening
this is just a test, to see if it's farmhouse redone being funky, so try removing it, and loading the game again
(for the weird bed and kitchen thing, since it stopped when i uninstalled it

You can try temporarily toggling off FHR by adding a . at the beginning of the mod folder name, and see if that fixes your kitchen.
If not, you'll have to go through your Content Patcher (CP) mods to see which are editing the kitchen or farmhouse, to determine if there's a possible conflict

Also, just to confirm, do you have any XNB mods? They would have gone into your Stardew Valley > Content folder rather than the Mods folder
I do have a kitchen mod, but it was a recommended mod on the farmhouse page
I dont, i avoid those like the plague
(this was a while back when we were actively trying to debug adopt and skin)

(it didn't get very far because we just kept making it WORSE)

mostly interface, and i got critters working
@lapis void can you have multiple adult skins yet only a few baby skin options? Ie: 1 baby void chicken and 2 adult? Will it randomly choose?
