In Terminal on your Mac, use the chmod tool to make a file executable.
("755" is the "executable file" set of permissions for the chmod command, if you were wondering)

However you launch Stardew normally should still default to your regular mods folder, but no reason you couldn't if you want a dedicated launcher. You can make multiple mod groups and folders too
heck, if you want to carry over some mods with the exact same settings and not recopy them all, I found a utility that makes it easier to generate Linux-esque "symbolic links" that the console will recognize (Mac aliases trip it up because it sees them as files, not links)

here's an interesting note for the SVE devs regarding the strange bug where crops in the crop field don't get watered...
I planted these sets of crops on the same day, and made sure to keep up with watering the crop field on the road to grampleton every day, but somehow, the one in the field has crept forward after i've done that

this also occurred with the fairy rose i planted earlier in the season
both in the field and some on my farm
dunno if that's somehow related, but maybe it could be a hint? worth taking a look at, at least
well, the field not being watered is a known bug actually
but the crop creeping forward one day might be related to that, is what i was trying to say
either way, whether it's related or not, it's definitely a bug

Known issue with TMXL toolkit. Crops planted in custom locations aren’t watered on rainy days.

I'm not exactly sure what you're looking for, but SMAPI tells you which mods need updates, and provides links to them
i mean you dont really have to get vortex
nexus does let you know when updates are available
If it flies by in the console too quickly, you can upload your log to see them in log.smapi.io
smapi sometimes tells when updates are available when there aren't actually updates though
That's not the fault of SMAPI, though, that's because the manifest.json file might not have the correct version #

re: the nursey thing though, cabins pull from a different map files than the main farmhouse. if you add another patch to the content.json to target the cabin maps as well, it should work ( but need to fix the crashing first obvs

really hard to tell, the kind of errors you're getting is the very vague kind that can be thrown by any number of things
but the only mod throwing an error there is CF, and during the same gameloop event as the crash
but it could be something else messed something up that gets read during day update, and CF is freaking out bc something else broke

I was ruling it out. You could use 7zip if you want to be very sure. Check your antivirus next.

Hmm, I also use firefox so I'll try that! If that doesn't solve it though, I'm tempted to let it go for now - my game and mods work as long as I keep everything downgraded, so I'd be tempted to wait for the next smapi version/update, and see if that one DOES work

help, i wanted to replace sebastian's photo with the Sebastian five ways mod (the fourth version) and it cannot find it, all the others and xnb files, i think i did something wrong because i deleted sebastians xnb file bc it said to replace it with the other one on the website help i think i was supposed to keep the xnb but im not sure bc it says it cant find sebastians character
also sebastians xnb was replaced with a file version 7Z so idk
If you're using steam, you can verify the game files and that will replace any missing xnb's

@tired brook the DarkGray color option in smapi config appears non-visible with the DarkBackground scheme (it's the default for Debug and Trace). the text is there and can be made readable by choosing other colors. i'm on linux and i don't know if the problem is specific to my setup
Hmm, that seems like an issue with the terminal; it seems to have a very dark version of DarkGray.
It's a lot lighter in ZorinOS with GNOME terminal for example:
that is on xterm. in any case, if others are not having the issue its not worth changing because i can fix it for myself

I am having some issues with SDVE. I am not getting any errors but the game is not starting with the opening SDVE quest, just the default. I followed all the install instructions on the Github and have installed everything manually. I am running the game using the SMAPI exe file and still the default first interactions are the same not the Expanded stuff. Not sure what I am doing wrong.

@heavy sail i just installed the CP Seb 4 version, and it wasn't the supported format, it was 1.15.0 when anything from 1.0.0 - 1.14.0 was supported. How should i fix this?

Yes, When I watched a youtube to verify if there is something in the start that should be different, someone else meets you at the bus and shows you how she fixed the bridge, and hooked up your farm with a bunch of stuff and shows you the back yard. None of that is happening.

i can't check the log now, but the event only happens with the immersive farm 2 remastered farm map
Good catch, Vibel! odddustin, you don't have that farm installed. It's not required for SVE though. Are you seeing the new maps / NPCs at least?
oh, I was holding off the emersive farm mod so maybe it is working, I am just not seeing that since I held off that one mod.

First up in the Skipped mods section, it's letting you know Teh’s Fishing Overhaul wasn't loaded because it's no longer compatible. You can get the unofficial update by searching for it on mods.smapi.io

It's only one save that's having issues and I think it's because I deleted that save
At the very top of the log, it also mentions 2 mods that you can update, so check those as well

also you have what appears to possibly be a preview folder? a folder named Wallpapers that SMAPI says contains no files, which means either it's empty or it contains .PNGs, .zips, .docs, files named 'readme' or other files SMAPI ignores when looking for mods.
The Wallpapers Folder has .PNGs in them, So im not sure what to do with those
Those are just like bonus image stuff you can use as desktop wallpapers, not a mod. You can put them wherever you like, or just delete if you don't want.

sometimes mods include png previews of things, especially if they pack their pngs into the xnb file format; this usually shows up in xnb replacer mods, which are bad, but some content patcher mods use the xnb file format too

SpaceCore only works on host computer. Some stuff doesn't work for farmhands. That's not actually a problem at all, but it currently spits out scary error messages. They are safe to ignore! 
(leave spacecore installed for everyone tho)

@jolly silo I took a look. I seem to remember hearing that Furniture Anywhere has had multiplayer issues recently (It always had MP bugs, but usually these were small ones, lately I've been hearing crash reports)
So maybe log in alone as the host, move any furniture back indoors, then save and try again with everybody and no Furniture Anywhere mod.
(you can save a backup somewhere of your save file before doing the changes, in case it doesn't work and you want to undo)

i know furniture anywhere only works with vanilla items, with modded items i got a ton of warnings when i tried, Also if you're anywhere outside and hover over them they turn into chairs lol

you'll want to go through all those folders with long strings of numbers and pull out whatever is inside them

SMAPI searches through folders already, so it's not strictly necessary
it's usually a good idea in case someone includes something like a readme

@rigid hatch imo theres nothing wrong with updating to the latest version of the mods u use. if it causes any glitches then just revert to the previous build. nexus is kind enough to still show the previous versions so it wont be that much of a hassle
Watch out though, not all mod authors keep previous versions posted. It's a nexus feature to allow it, but not every creator does

@nimble mica I had that something similar happen a few days ago. I recruited Sophia for NPC Adventures and then went into her house, which triggered an event I hadn't seen yet. After playing through the event I couldn't talk to any NPCs anymore. I slept on it to make sure, and it was the same the next day. I had to roll back my save by one day to get it working again. The instructions for that are in the pinned messages for this channel. If you haven't saved yet, you can just scrap your day and restart.
@lament bear , are you asking how to check if your mods need updates or where to find them or about the process of downloading and putting things in your mods folder?
@timber spire you can ignore that message in your SMAPI log about the antisocial mod if that's what you're worried about. Just follow the install instructions exactly, Flash has a lot of people playing SVE so he's been really specific and careful about the pre-reqs and showing people exactly how to do things. If it's not in the screenshots or written instructions on the install instructions page, you don't need to download it for SVE.

@lament bear that's generally not recommended, sometimes mod structures change so you can end up with multiple copies of things and kind of a mess in your mods folder. If you're pretty confident you can figure out exactly which folders are for which mods and they match exactly, you can certainly try it. I always delete or drag out old copies of mods before putting new ones in.

I have 2 game folders, 1 for SV and 1 for SVE. So, when I run SMAPI update it updates for SV folder. How do I update SMAPI for SVE folder?
SMAPI doesn't exist in a mod folder. You only need to update it once

But another good way is just to skip all the shortcuts, and make two mod folders, e.g.

right before you want to play, change the folder name of the one you want to use to just "Mods"
And then rename it back if you want to switch, then rename the other to Mods
but right now, even when I ddidn't change the Mods folder name, the game run with SVE mods; not usual mods

It can be fussy, I don't necessarily recommend it unless you have more than 2 mod setups and are regularly enabling and disabling mods

You might need to undo whatever steps you took for the other method of modgroups

I figured what the problem was - when I was copying mod folders, I accidentally over-written mod folder with SVE mods

It looks like you've got SVE installed—that's a pretty extensive amount of modding, so opening your modded save in vanilla isn't a good idea. I second mouse's suggestion for rolling back a day. 🙂
You can just make a copy of it somewhere, or zip it.

Opening a save isn't usually a big deal modded or mods, since it won't be affected unless you actually save it, but you'll definitely see weird stuff when removing a lot of mods at once, hehe

I would expect it to load still as long as they weren't married to a custom NPC, but lots of map fun, plus error items!
we got them to install SMAPI for logging purposes and it cleaned up the extra NPCs and that fixed it, I think

Most mods can be installed through Nexus or ModDrop, but there is a guide if you need more help.
the recommended method is download from Nexus or ModDrop, unzip, pop unzipped folder into Mods folder

There are a couple mod managers but a lot of us just manually install. The wiki has instructions for making mod groups and stuff. Definitely start with SMAPI, it's in the pins in this channel.

CJB cheats and item spawner are both pretty safe to use and then remove. But for example if you're using item spawner to spawn you a bunch of modded items and then uninstall all those mods without getting rid of your items, that's not so great.

i've been using the Shipping Taxes mods and finally noticed why it often doesn't seem to work: it substracts the taxes from your existing funds, and not from the money you gained from shipping, so if your funds aren't enough to cover the taxes they don't get paid (in full)

Yeh i have that issue with my mods too. Because PC doesnt care about case i dont know they are wrong until i field bug reports.

Windows file system isn't case sensitive. Mac can be or not depending on configuration.

Content patcher apparently knows to ignore case too. But not all the time.

I have half-remembered memories of this kind of thing, and I've always assumed it'd go "oh, these are 2 different things, because capitalization matters."

Yeah, looks like Linux users need to do a rename to ProducerRules.json and ProducersConfig.json for it to work

(i always do few things when installing new mods: chmod +rw -R -- *, to avoid problems with missing permissions, and find . -iname '*.png' -exec pngcrush -ow -rem allb '{}' \; to remove certain color correction profiles from pngs so that libpng doesn't flood the smapi console with warnings about those. might as well add for i in ProducerRules.json ProducersConfig.json ; do find . -iname "$i" -execdir mv -vf '{}' "$i" \; ; done when installing PFM packs)

@tired apex and if you wanted to do those easily when installing new mods, i'd recommend saving them as a script to a location that is in your PATH variable. also, pressing F4 in your file manager might work to open a terminal in that location

The fact that it starts in swim mode might be an unintended bug, I'm not sure. You might need to ask the Swim mod dev

(if there happens to be a folder starting with - character, pngcrush would interpret it as an option and not work as intended. still a problem with files that start with -, but those probably don't exist)

seems to be misformatted config.json, if you delete it a new one will be generated
currently it prevents the SVE CP pack from loading i believe and TMXL freaks out as a result

@normal shadow Your saves won't be affected by any mods you install until you specifically load those saves and save with the mods installed. There are several ways to play vanilla instead of modded while still keeping SMAPI and mods installed - the simplest on Windows is probably just not setting your launch options (so that Steam continues to launch the vanilla game) and starting SMAPI directly from the game folder when you want to use mods.
You can also just temporarily rename your Mods folder to anything but Mods, and SMAPI will use an empty one instead. (You'd rename it back when you wanted to play modded.)
Aaand you can also set up different shortcuts to use different mod folders if you have multiple saves with different sets of mods on them: https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Can_I_have_different_mod_groups.3F
(Of course if you want to play old saves with all your new mods, all you have to do is load them :) If you download something that changes up the vanilla maps a lot, you might see stuff like trees and bushes in weird places, but that's easily fixed.)

Reset Terrain Features (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4715) is a mod that allows you to reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map via an in-game menu. This is especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will still use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits) until reset.

!mpmods Not sure offhand, but some rules of thumb here. At minimum you'd want to make sure you all had the same versions of it and its related mods installed.
