I've never downloaded it directly from the site before, it usually installs perfectly if I download it from nexusmods. I panicked for a bit 😅

You have a lot of mods and CP mods that need updated first. Any one of those could be targeting the same sheet. SMAPI also needs updated but that wouldn't be your issue. That's gonna be your first two steps.
If it just started happening it's probably related to a recent mod you installed. That specific tile is on the {{season}}_outdoorstilesheet so anything that modifies that could be the culprit.
Recolor mods are often the ones that target that sheet the most but other mods can use it.

@heavy sail Spouse patio items disappearing is usually caused by misordered tilesheets on the farm map. I'd confirm by temporarily disabling custom map (reporting to author of that fixes it) and if using any TMXL buildables, unbuilding them until you find it.

It's unlikely to be any recolor made in last few years, as it would need to be truly ancient to erase spouse patio and you'd notice many other problems.

It's possible, if you are familiar with Tiled you can check the tilesheet names in the map, I can look at it in a minute. If they are tmx files it's even easier since you can edit in notepad
Dwarf has untranslated dialogue, right? Wiki only lists untranslated dialogue for gifts, but you can talk with him whitout Translator. Where you can find untranslated dialogue for other dialogue?

No, tilesheet order problem has nothing to do with spring outdoors sheet except in that custom tilesheets come ahead of it. So a town sheet could be added and misnamed, a new tilesheet could be used that is alphabetically ahead of untitled, etc. This is why we use a prefix and why it is almost always a farm map

The seasonal one I opened had a tilesheet named spring_, so yes that could cause this problem
(farm map's spring sheet is called untitled, so all custom tilesheets need to go after it alphabetically)
@heavy sail Try this one. I can't test and am on my way out rather late, so no guarantees. And even if it works, you might have other things with the issue, too. (Plus as Para mentioned earlier, you have tons of updates you could do!)
It's a common mapper error though so ideally TMXL would just prevent them from breaking it, but that doesn't seem to be working right with buildables

Well, I couldn't say, cause I have way too many mods (482), but some recommendations are found above.
I also have around 500 mods 🙂 I particularly love crop and machine mods, so Artisan Valley and the PPJA suite are a bit of a big chunk of those. There are some really amazing NPCs out there (Lucikiel, Abandoned Bride, and Jasper are some I can think of off the top of my head that add an incredible amount of content to the game). For overall utility, the tractor mod is probably the one mod I can no longer live without. And maybe the horse whistle.

You can adjust the mod requirements in the manifest for whatever gave you that SMAPI 40.1.1 message. It'd be good to also report it to the mod creator.

Usually they're just content packs, which is why I have 480 mods.
Well, you start small and then you get addicted. I personally go into a bug-fixing frenzy when any yellow or red text pops up in my SMAPI log and hunt down bugs/incompatibilities before playing the game when I download any new mods.

Yes, the current version of SVE works with the current version of SDV. If that's what you're asking.
Most things that have been updated or posted after November 2019 work with current SDV, and many older things do as well-though those are more dicey.

Fun Fact: Dwarf don't speak lines that you get ftom befriending them if you don't know dwarfish.
And they don't speak "I feel most comfortable underground" dialogue if you don't know dwarfish for some reason. It's a regular dialogue and doesn't require befriending them.

Sure! It's nice to play the game once through at least year 2 or 3 since there's some content you can miss if mods edit it, but you can start anytime with most mods. Just check their front pages to make sure there aren't any special instructions (you'll need to do some extra things if you want to use a new farm map, for example).

I think they just unzipped them into a containing directory (handy function for when people don't put files in a top level directory)
you can also take out the first folder since the names are pretty long so it looks likes this

We did have someone earlier last week where directory names being too long made SMAPI not function for those mods.
So assuming in those directories with version numbers there's a dir with just the mod name inside, you could pull those up into the mods dir and delete the empty version-named one
(cleaner anyways)

No, I think it started after I combined Seasonal Japanese Buildings and Elle's Seasonal Buildings. The other buildings are fine but the house disappeared.

Sweay no, SMAPI doesn't really manage mods the way a mod manager would. The generally recommended way to manage your mods is to do it manually. Unzip, drag and drop into the mods folder, make mod groups, put a dot in front of mods you don't want to use...
There's a great page on the wiki that tells you how to do that.

the command for where to find a log? the instructions are there when you click that link, you choose whether you're on windows, mac or android and it will show you where to find it
first thing you need to do is update SMAPI! then at the top of that log you'll find a list of all the mods you need to update
for the red text telling you what mods can't be loaded, there's a page that shows where to find unofficial updates or alternatives to out of date mods:

it also looks like you tried to install an XNB mod into your mods folder, since you have a "content" folder in there.

check that first link and see if you can figure out what the mod was and if there's a content patcher alternative!

That's an inelegant option, but it is the thing I think most likely to work. Wish someone who knew how to mash mods together could look at it for you.

It kinda looks like it could be a multiple spouses thing-the errors come right after loading Haley's room both times. I don't know that for sure and I have no idea how to fix it, just... a sense of suspicion. That mod causes errors I do not understand.
One thing you probably could do is deal with Yellog's wood fences. If it really is an empty folder, just take it out of your mods folder.
And the rule of thumb when a mod is misbehaving is to redownload it fresh. You could try reinstalling UI Info Suite if you haven't already...

I think reinstalling happened the first time the error cropped up Halla, I remember suggesting it too 🙂
@untold widget Probably setting disablebouncinganimation to true would stop animations. You should also be able to delete or comment out the ProducingAnimation and ReadyAnimation sections, the default for those is null.
Side note: If you ever want to double check what PFM machines do, ProducerFrameworkMod includes a Content Pack Template in its download that is supremely helpful.
Does anyone know if with the tractor mod you can take the tractor into the greenhouse?

I have BennyB's Divine Greenhouse and SVE and it works for me. You can't ride it into or out of the door, have to enter the greenhouse, then use backspace to call it to you

I've (accidentally) teleported my horse into the greenhouse with the horse whistle mod and had no trouble there, so maybe teleporting the tractor in would work better for me than trying to take it through the door

Elle's mods and Cuter Fatter Animals are both great for making your standard animals cuter/customized. I have yet to play MP so I can't speak to that but I think strictly visual mods are usually okay?
Yeah strictly visual replacement mods are a-ok in multiplayer, each person can use whichever ones they want

LittleHorn-I just tried downloading it myself and quality scrubber is not a normal PFM machine. It's probably not possible to mess with it in quite the same way that you could one that was simply PFM. Why do you want to disable animations?

Is this log from when you tried to put something into the machine? Sometimes doing the thing you're trying to fix spouts errors. This one doesn't seem to have any...
@untold widget I just downloaded and tried it on a test save, works for me. Might be good to redownload and if it still doesn't work, get a log from trying to put something into the machine.
@untold widget From testing, I can tell you that commenting out the ProducingAnimation and ReadyAnimation sections makes it stop working, but putting DisableBouncingAnimationWhileWorking to true makes the bouncing animation stop. So don't delete the animation sections. Sorry, I think that would've worked on a normal PFM mod but this one is not normal.

As you may have noticed in my screenshot only certain letters render incorrectly. Those are l, m, n, and o. I noticed they're all adjacent in the alphabet, so it is possible that it part of the issue.

Thanks for that. It was driving me nuts not being able to figure it out. It seems so simple, yet even patching base files didn't help. I'll edit the file because that seems to be the easiest fix.
Ideally she would create two different files for the arrows. I'm sure it would be easy enough to do myself, but I don't actually feel like putting in the effort.

The less fancy is just to leave everything as-is but if you want to play vanilla, re-name your Mods folder to .Mods

@dense pasture You can look into the Always On Server for Multiplayer mod. But Stardew is a peer-to-peer game, so even what a mod can accomplish is limited in some ways.

@cedar flare were you by any chance tabbing out when you opened the map? (I thought and can't find confirmation now) there's a known issue with tabbing and NPC Map Locations...
I think I opened the map, accidentally switched to inventory, and then tabbed to the map, where it froze. Is there a way to fix this issue or should I disable/remove the mod for now?
I'm trying to find where I thought the NPC Map Locations thing was, but I do not see it. Maybe I'm just extrapolating from someone else's log a few days ago. It looks like you're on a Mac, so first thing to check is Mono-the instructions on how to do that are on the NPC Map Locations front page. But I would think freezing while opening the map-your first suspect is probably a map mod
Ok! I wasn't sure because this happened when gifting someone as well (though that might be a separate issue). I was also wondering, does it have any effect if I put all of the SVE related folders within one folder that then goes into the main mod folder?
I'm not sure, sorry! I hear rumours that that can cause issues, but cannot confirm it. I put them all in the mods folder separately as that seemed like the correct interpretation of the install instructions to me (and it was my first mod).

It will say on your log which one you're using, or on the mod page files section beside each download. And lastly inside the manifest.json of the actual mod folder itself after installing.

hi guys! i've just downloaded stardew on my mac after playing on my switch. I want to download mods and while i was downloading smapi it keeps saying this "That directory doesn't seem to exist.
Type the file path to the game directory (the one containing 'StardewValley.exe'), then press enter." I'm not sure what to do. I had already downloaded it but i erased it because it wasnt working.

im going to download mono again, for some reason the stardewvalley folder was empty. i'll see what happens when it downloads:)

if it's still empty, maybe try going on steam, to your library, right click stardew>properties>local files>verify integrity of game files

clicking "browse local files" from there should also open the game installation folder and you can get the correct path that way (if mac displays the path)

mac file manager isn't great about displaying folder structure. i think we'll figure this out if you try installing smapi again (then we can supply it the correct path if it can't find it itself)
when i clicked that it shows info.plist, mac os, and resources, ill delete and install it again if this doesnt work i already reinstalled it and dont really want to again if i dont have to XD

There's code that needs some other code, and it can't find an important bit, so downloading mono might provide the correct source of code that the other code needs to find for its stuff to work right on mac

Ok. Second, antivirus sometimes makes things funny. Can you try running it without antivirus on? If it happens to more games than Stardew, I'm guessing it's a systems thing and not necessarily a mods thing.

So basic computer troubleshooting: turn it off and then on again, then try reinstalling. I'd try running the game without SMAPI first, then reinstalling SMAPI, then restarting your computer, then if that doesn't work reinstall the game, then check the frameworks (.net and xna, the instructions for that are on the wiki page I linked). If you want to wait around there may be someone who comes along later who actually recognizes that error, so you can also try posting in here when it looks a little more busy. If you can verify the error happens even without mods (by reinstalling the game and trying to run it without SMAPI) then you can also take it to the game support channel-make sure you tell them what you've tried
Sorry, I'm just a player who's been around in these channels a bit and seen these things suggested, so I'm not sure what will work in your case. But the troubleshooting page on the wiki is solid, reading through that is a good start.

An alternative to running games as admin (depending on windows version but 8+ definitely) is to fix permissions on your steam games directory so you have real write permissions.
assuming this is windows anyways. *nix would be different

Another potentially simpler option would just be to tell steam to install games somewhere that isn't a 'system' directory (so, not in program files, etc.) so it doesn't try to protect them.

@tired apex .rar files needing additional software to extract is why everyone is recommended to use .zip . I have 7zip installed with extras so I just type 7z x *.rar to unrar all the things I downloaded, though you can specify a folder to put them in as well.
If you've already got something and it's just randomly not working though, hopefully restart helps :)

I'm still hunting for that giant farm I saw. It was a good few months ago, someone shared a screenshot in here (or in one of the image channels to show off their farm) and it was a HUGE farm that was just covered in debris. I don't remember any water etc. I've found a few that are similar but not the one I saw.

I was watching a documentary on receding coastlines and floodings causing problems to farmers and figured it could make for a cool challenge. I've seen players come up with amazing and creative ideas to remedy any possible problem in the game, so I thought seeing what they would do and how they would do it would be really interesting.

With the addition of natural disasters, there could be the addition of methods to counter or avoid these disasters (water pumps, watertight fences, "moats" around the crops...
Sakorona has thought about that a lot, but there isn't anything like that right now that I know of. CoF does have extreme temperature crop death options, but not outright flooding or things like that.
It was just a thought. After all, it is still pretty hard to add all this and keep the game being playable.

Are you using a mod manager by any chance, like Vortex?

In addition to making sure you do have the mods you need in your mods folder - TMXL, PyTK, Content Patcher, JSON Assets, and Farm Type Manager are all missing in the log - if you've done any installing/updating in the last three hours, the log does not reflect that. If you've verified file integrity via Steam since then, you'll need to reinstall SMAPI.

You don't need to delete anything, just re-run the SMAPI installer and try again :)
If it still doesn't work, the new log it will give should reflect the latest state of your Mods folder at the very least! But right now SMAPI is not running at all, because the startup script would have been replaced by the reset.
(Reinstalling SMAPI after a reset is only necessary on Mac/Linux, because it replaces the startup script.)

It shows the error near the beginning of the log. You have a bunch of duplicate objects.
You'll need to remove either Espresso Machine Foods or Artisan Valley Machine Goods
(If you keep Espresso Machine Foods, you'll also need to remove Even More Recipes - Meat)

@drowsy drum any mods that add new items, NPCs, locations, change locations, and some (but not all) that change game mechanics will cause problems if not everyone has them.
I removed as many as I could think of and it still didn't work so instead I'm only keeping ones that are known to work enabled

And has everyone actually checked their game version on the button from the menu page, or are they just assuming they have 1.4.5 because they downloaded it?

That's a prismatic tools error. Looks like assets/tools.png is missing from its mod folder

yeah it's a capitalization problem. it's probably safest to copy the folder and have both capitalizations that way

We both disabled a lot of frameworks to figure out what was wrong
@tired apex maybe depends on the mod itself, too, like if the mod is looking for it capitalized, but it's not in the folder name, or vice versa? 
that is indeed what the problem is, mismatch between capitalization in what the mod looks for and how the files are capitalized

Looks like multiple TMXL packs are trying to add the ForestRoad location, which makes it not get loaded, except it's still needed and so whatever needs it chokes.

My guess is that it's from using several recolor versions of Walk to Desert instead of picking the one they use.
(I haven't used it personally, just noted multiple packs named for different recolors in log.)

it does look a little odd, but i believe that mod automatically recolors parts of the portraits so they won't look nearly as ghostly when using them

What's the best way to test out mods? Should I download cheat engine and item spawner to see if I can get things running?

@steady whale Do you know what the context is? Is it something after someone clicked on an animal, was it a promo for something else, that kind of thing? It doesn't look familiar to me, but at the same time the image is generic enough that I'm not sure what the mod in question would have done

My current mod playing plan is to play through every custom NPC mod from 0 to 8 hearts while married to Jasper.
And actually try out child into NPC and Life Cycle.
One of my older saves before modding won't let me use E to open up my menu and I'm not quite sure why.
With the amount of mods I have, might as well be Farmville 2, without the waiting and microtransactions.

Yes the vanilla config options for keybinds are specific to a save file. So if you changed your keybinds in one save, then start a new one, the new save will have the default keybinds

I would be fairly surprised if that was the case.

Yea I remapped my keys so everything is on the left hand, including the mods ones. My "keybind manager" right now is a notebook lol
W, A, S, and D are next to each other on my physical keyboard but not in the Dvorak key layout so I always have to change everything

LOL if you're set on coal lara, you don't need those mods I mentioned I also have my own mod that reduces the coal cost of some machines

Also I have noticed that some crops are being saved for future updates for PPJA, like the marshmallow flower and snapdragon.

But with the turmeric, I guess I'll just make the ginger sprite yellow, because it looks exactly like ginger when I looked it up.
Marshmallow may be getting added since somebody dm'd us about taking over their mod. They haven't responded with how they want us to exactly proceed with it but if they don't respond I'll...figure out something. It might get thrown onto the abandoned hub.
Snapdragon was never planned to be part of PPJA so it must be another mod. The only flower we have that's partially complete is the Venus Fly Trap. There also are some pepper sprites that are missing crops.
Perilla Leaf shares the same sprite with Mint which is something I want to correct in the future but haven't had the time. (That isn't really an excuse)
Also, this one of the first images I found for turmeric.
There's actually a few others that are WIPs, Bay, Catnip, Wormwood, Lotus Root, and the following peppers/chilis: Carolina Reaper, Ghost, Poblano, Scotch Bonnet, Serrano. None of those have crop sprites but do have objects
@restive zodiac It's just an overlay over the persons farmer and their name with a 'favored" item. I figured it wasn't a mod but wasn't sure. I just extracted the images and recreated it but I'm still unsure of how to get the avatar to place in the box

That table hasn't been updated in eons but yes, some of the product sprites are in there but the crop was never made for various reasons.

If you want to make some you're welcome to submit a PR to the repo with the sprites 🙂 I would suggest only submitting one or two at first since we do try to keep in-line with CA's style so we are a little picky at what we do and don't accept.
This is more of a #making-mods-general discussion but here are the in progress crop products. Ideally I'd like these to be unique and not just recolors so there isn't an issue like the Perilla leaf.

The CustomMusic.IGMCMAPI interface defines method RegisterClampedOption which doesn't exist in the API.

Not sure if they're active anymore. But you always could release your own pack! There's a lot of crops out there but there are still thousands of plants out there (not including made up ones) that could be made.
