Mod manager download tries to open the Vortex client, so if you don't have Vortex it does nothing

@alpine swallow yes, but if the mod actually changes map files (.tbin and the like) objects may get shoved outside the map area you can wander in or some such.

Yup. For stuff that just recolors what buildings look like, you can even install multiple at once (but generally the one that applies last is the only one you'll see)

If the nexus (or wherever) page for the mods talking about XNB files (or 'not a SMAPI mod') have an alternative option that says content patcher or something like that, that's probably the option to choose.

Oh! I found the hobbit hole problem. @alpine swallow this one just has some punctuation errors in its manifest.json file. You can easily fix these yourself.
Just go in the Hobbit Hole folder, open the manifest.json file in any text editor, and replace all ” with ". (There are 3.) Then save the file and it should probably work just fine.

The pink interface one just replaces .xnb files wholesale, so no it won't function as a content patcher mod. You could technically use it but you'd need to replace base game files with the ones from the mod, which really isn't recommended anymore (plus the files are 3 years old and stardew has updated since then, so almost certainly bugs)
I use the chonkins xnb files and have all the original files in another backup folder on my desktop
There's closer to vanilla sprites and more diversity versions of that as well.

yup you can only access it after xx amount of in-game days (i forgot but around 200+ iirc) , so even if you do a speed run for the CC, you won't be able to access it immediately
Is it possible to change what type of mod map I'm using in the middle of a game? I was going to wait for winter at least but I'd still have some buildings. Not sure if it's possible.

you can't switch farm type without save editing shenanigans, but even if you can't do the config thing you can most likely change the content.json
But are the farm types the same size?

something to consider is that some parts of farm map mods can have requirement for having the specified vanilla map (like ultimate farm's FTM pack wants riverland)

getting a strange issue where my crops in the field next to town in SVE aren't getting watered on stormy(rainy?)days even though there are sprinklers
That side area doesn't work with sprinklers. Known issue. RAIN
If you install a mod that lets you activate sprinklers at will you can at least water them more quickly

Yeah. Open the PNG from game files for the building you want in Photoshop or GIMP (anything that supports layers)
Then add a new transparent layer or layers on top and add all your pretty flowers or snow or w/e!
Finally, turn off visibility for the bottom layer with the buildings, and export all your other layers as a PNG with transparency.
Then make a content patcher pack and use EditImage in Overlay mode to apply your transparent overlay screen on top of the games image files for the buildings.
(you can make a new transparent add-ons screen for each season, for example, and apply them using content patcher When: conditionals so that each one is used at the right time)

I installed SMAPI through Vortex. I went to the Steam install folder for Stardew Valley and ran the StardewModdingAPI.exe from that folder, but i get this error. Anyone know why?

So, I tried installing DCBurger's Portrait Mod, alongside PyTK and Portaiture (and SMAPI obviously). I opened the Portaiture folder through Vortex and put the png files in the Portrait folder there. In DCBurger's description, he says to press "P" in game to change the portraits... but nothing happens. Am I missing something?

@agile gyro there are a lot of little secret woods bits 🙂 ||You can access the quarry by clicking on the boat tied to your dock across the stream on the west side of your map. The secret area it looks like you're looking for may not be accessible, but you can try to get there by crossing the river as if you were going to Marnie's but turning west and then south after you cross the bridge. The stump area is across from your farm cave entrance. Those are the only three "secret" areas, I'm pretty sure.|| and I just realized you are looking for the mushroom thing, which is not part of the farm map
I uninstalled and deleted and removed all the portraits. I'll try redownloading and installing. If that doesn't work, I'll try your suggestion.

Portrait packs that work with Portraiture mod don't get installed like other mods. Don't use vortex to install them. Just manual install, move the files into Mods/Portraiture/Portraits, and delete anything else from the download

Whoever uses Izxe's Improved Farmhouse mod, I need help with it. I downloaded a few visual mods to my game and they all worked (as in I can see them in-game) but it's Izxe's mod that crashes my game and keeps it on the loading screen whenever I open up a save file.
@fair vessel changed the name to DANK ABIGAIL EATS QUARTZ and it works now.

@heavy sail you actually don't need the two layers of folders for that mod. Just the inside folder with the 2 files inside it is all you need, can put it directly in Mods/

@outer turret updates on the custom Krobus room! 😄 I switched a few things around as an experiment and discovered the following:
• the TMXL version of the new room actually shows up just fine with that bathroom mod I thought might've broken things—the one that probably still is responsible for Krobus's regular room not showing up right. go figure. :D
• I tried out the CP version once more sans bathroom mod just to see if it worked, but got an infinite-loading-save and "tiles not in this map" error. So TMXL it is.
• Krobus seems to stand on that little stone tile in the upper-middle of the room and not on top of the junimo plushie, happily. :)

@split nacelle if you're using Automate, it's not fully compatible with ChestEx (after you reach the vanilla max of 36 items, Automate won't push items into the chests). I switched to Chests Anywhere + Colorful Chests. The chests aren't bigger, but you can reach them anywhere lol (including the shipping bin)

Since Chests Anywhere and Automate are by the same mod author (Pathoschild) there's extra options in Chests Anywhere specific to Automate o:

Hmmm. I divide my fruits and veggies by season, but have a separate combined chest for flowers (with Mizu's Flowers and Farmer to Florist, it's really 2 chests lol).
But then for my "factories" or automated stuff, I have a separate chest. So like, the preserves jars have a chest, kegs have a chest, soap bar machines and perfume machines each have their own chest, etc.

I'm not even the fanciest organizer, it just made sense to me because I like to choose which fruit /veggie / flowers go where, for profit reasons. Like strawberries are better for wine than jam/jelly, that kind of thing

[#4974] "Switching to a custom farm map can be done, but you'll need to do extra steps in order to make sure you don't have buildings / items in the void, or not properly lined up.
You'll need to grab Reset Terrain Features and Noclip Mode to set you up.
Then, before you install the new map, you'll need to remove all machines / chests / etc. on your map, you can store them in a chest, preferably inside your farmhouse or barns /coops / sheds.
Then, go to Robin and move any buildings you have as close to the farmhouse as possible.
Then add the new map mod (ensure it replaces the farm type you're using, i.e. Standard, Riverland, Hilltop, or Wilderness), and you'll spend some time moving everything to a proper place.
You can use Reset Terrain Features to reset the bushes, trees, and other debris.

Is there a way to activate SDV without mods? Just Vanilla, without deleting your mods
Presumably just launch the normal game executable. If you're launching SMAPI through steam you'd need to drop the special command from the game's settings, but you could also just launch the game from explorer or something.

Did you configure steam to launch SMAPI using the Set Launch Options button in the game's properties?
If you delete all of that and leave it blank, it'll go back to just launching the normal game executable
then what when i want to do my mods?
You could either keep switching the launch options, add a second launcher through steam (you could probably add SMAPI under games -> 'add a non-steam game to my library', though then I don't know that it would work with achievements), or you could launch one or the other from a file browser instead of from steam.
Probably other options, those are just the first ones I can think of.

You could probably just use SMAPI only and set up a blank 'mod group' to use when you want to play unmodded (so it would still be using SMAPI but not load any mods), but I don't know how to do that offhand. https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Can_I_have_different_mod_groups.3F has the details I think
Second launcher?
You can tell steam to launch whatever you want, basically, by adding it as a 'non steam game' to your library. That gives you an entry for it in your library list but you can choose what it launches.

Bunnyx I've got no idea offhand. That looks like a map <> tilesheet issue to me, but I also know veeeery little about that side of things. The mod info says it also requires farmhouse redone for certain functionality, but I'm not sure what offhand.
It looks like you've probably also got a house reskin dealie. I'd see if temporarily removing/disabling that produces normal wood floors in the bigger house mod properly as a first thing to test I suppose?

Sometimes mod authors don't update the manifest quite right, so when SMAPI checks for updates it sees the versions as showing there's something available.
If you have the latest versions available of those things, it's generally quite safe to ignore. You could dig into the manifests and compare the versions to wherever you downloaded them from to fix the manifests if you like.

Smapi sees the manifest file, and it thinks the entire Mods folder is one big mod, so it doesn't look for any DLL mods in any of the folders

Some of the updates I'm sure there are new versions available (content patcher for one). Custom music is probably bundled with SVE.
But the updates are also a 'hey you can go update this'. if once the errors are gone things are working, you don't need to update.
Good idea to stay current for bug fixes and such, but the game should run fine even if things have updates out there. 🙂

The complaint from content patcher is both mods are trying to load Characters/Farmer/shirts. If you crack open the content.json files for each you could see what each is loading, but making them cooperate is finicky (and may not be possible). If they do more than just that one load file you could probably turn off just that load path for one or the other and keep the rest of the changes from whichever was partially disabled.
That said, you could break stuff doing that too, and I am quite possibly sending you on a wild goose chase. >_>

they replace default ones, but there are custom furniture mods that add TVs i believe? not sure if they're functional though
unfortunately custom furniture (ones that are added on to default, like the packs lenne linked) won't show up in item spawner, so your best bet is to spawn a catalogue

Instant Buildings from Farm mod, set the config to not require materials.
Then you can "try out" buildings and demolish them once you're finished planning

If you have Chat Commands installed (and as long as you didn't delete Console Commands mod that comes bundled with smapi), it should work
I really should start timing how long SMAPI takes to load my game with all my mods
I think it was only about 3 full min, but that feels like forever.

That sounds like the secret response that happens when you don't have Console Commands running
Check your Mods folder/smapi log to make sure Console Commands is there and loaded
OH yeah console commands is not in the mods folder for some reason...
If you re-run the smapi installer it should add back in!

No, I don't think so
There are mods that can change the behaviour, or can spawn fully formed giant crops (IF2R does this)

Custom Music mod makes edits to the GMCM code that broke things when GMCM updated to 1.2.0.
For now, remove your GMCM folder and replace it with the older version 1.1 found here under "old files". This will fix the problem.

After downgrading, just ignore the GMCM update alert in your log for now.
But keep an eye out for a Custom Music update! When that comes out, you'll finally be able to update both mods to their newest versions without issue. (Yay, new features!)

So, I tested Yellog's furniture, didn't found any room dividerszand it doesn't match my usual a e s t e t i c s.
Lo and behold, it works! Should really pay attention to the purple updates a little but never knew it worked like that, thanke!
This is an unusual case lol. Why the heck CM isn't checking even now for the updated GMCM version it requires... I have no idea
