i have no idea what's going on then tbh? if the base game is running and smapi is installed correctly, idk what else would be the issue. it is fairly late for a lot of timezones though, you might have more luck with more eyes on it in a few hours

If I uninstall SMAPI I can play vanilla just fine but SMAPI will not load mods anymore

if you have a lot of mods it can take over a minute
also, if it says "select mode" up the top, you need to press the esc key
because it will not load in select mode
I figured out the issue
On a mod I'm the author of I had accidentally made a symlink loop inside it and it got hung up on that, removed the extra symlinks and it works fine

one time years ago when modding creatures i accidentally put the My Agents folder inside of itself
like, so it was nowhere else
the game, obviously, did not like this!
so I would have a Pants directory and then inside the pants directory there was a symlink to the pants directory etc.
so it would just go forever

Hi, I wanted to ask if I can use content patcher content packs and json assets packs with vortex. This is probably a really stupid question...;;
no it's not stupid, don't worry. unfortunately i don't use vortex so i can't answer your question, and most of us don't use it for installing sdv mods tbh. if you really want to use a mod manager, i've seen moddrop recommended over vortex.
I think you'd have to put those directly in the mod folder then launch it with vortex

I was coming up with an ingredient list using recipes / more recipes / artisan valley
By best platform i mean platform for example (not sdv platforms) there is Google, Safari, Firebird, etc.
I used the website as reference, but when I went in game to check if the # of recipes was ok or I was missing something, I found the web had 248 recipes and I had 254 "shadows" in the cooking tab
I went completely insane looking for the 6 recipes I was missing, literally for hours
Oh, the mouseypounds database has most, but not all the info
And then I went in and checked the "shadows" in the actual kitchen, and it's 248
Something odd is happening between the collections tab and the cooking one... maybe?
(I had someone else come and count with me in that tab, I swear I'm not crazy

Yep, the database doesn't update automatically. The new stuff has to be told to be uploaded.
Some things also are Crafting so they'll show up in the Collections Tab but not Cooking

i got the mod better sprinklers, and it says you can change the range of sprinklers and the cost will vary accordingly, but i’m not sure how to do so? do i need to edit to config.json or is it in game?
Btw... Thanks for this mods.. I have +2k hours in SDV and it's a brand new game now. 
Since the mods give a large amount of new things, I'm making for myself a little file with useful info ("grocery" list for cooking everything, and the crops, and trees). If it helps in any way, I can share it with you when it's taken more shape than now.
@keen lark you edit the range of the sprinklers in-game, but I believe you can edit the price in the config.json. Could you copy-paste the contents of your config.json file (open it in any text editor lile Notepad or Notepad++) to json.smapi.io and share the link here?
I'm also thinking of "Crop Rotation" suggestions to avoid the Wasted Days for the crops in each season

If you've only downloaded it and not installed it, you'll need to unzip the installer somewhere and then run install on Windows inside the folder. May someone clarify if these work and wont corrupt my save file if added. @bright zealot Save corruption is very rare. What usually happens if something doesn't work is that you see weird things in game until you fix the mods responsible, or reinstall them long enough to get rid of the things the mod added (like trashing custom items or divorcing a custom NPC spouse before uninstalling). None of those should break your save, though make sure you use the JA version of Flower Dance Attire.

@vivid storm You can just right-click open as Hazel suggested, or double click the folder to open it directly, then drag the folder inside to somewhere else (like your desktop, anywhere easily accessible). For installing SVE, make sure you're following this install guide https://github.com/FlashShifter/StardewValleyExpanded/wiki/Install-guide after installing SMAPI.

I wouldn't install SVE on a new save, but not out of save corruption concerns, just because you'll have to reset some map features and you might miss out on early game content added. Tailor Mouse and clothing are totally fine on new save. If the Tailor Mouse stand ends up clipping into some other map feature, you can always edit the coordinates in notepad to move it over a little :)

Keep the installer window open - if you already closed it, you can just run it again! It gives you green text at the end you can use for Steam.

Nope! If everything was pasted right, when you start Stardew from Steam, a little black box (that's SMAPI) should start first and be running in the background once the actual game is launched
(It should say 2 mods are installed, which are basic utility mods that SMAPI installs for you.)

The same way you unzipped SMAPI - just download it, double clip the zip file, and drag the folder called Content Patcher out into your Mods folder (or anywhere else that you can move into your Mods folder).

If you're looking at the archive in your downloads folder or somewhere, you can also right click a zip file and click something like "extract here", and then move it over to your Mods folder.

You should end up with three folders in Mods, for ConsoleCommands, SaveBackup, and now ContentPatcher :) No loose files in the Mods folder.

Make sure you read over the mod page for any special instructions or compatibility notes they might have, too. A lot of the more complicated mods have different options you can only configure after installing and running the game once, so you'll need to check out what the different options are :)

@tawny kindle since you mentioned it, I'll ask, because I'm having a hard time understanding the mod description for some reason: the tweaks are to how loot is "attracted" to the player independent of the magnet ring, right?
@royal arrow I haven't personally tried it yet, but if I remember the code correctly, it multiplies whatever the player's current "magnetic power" is. (Unless you use -1 as mentioned in the description, which just makes it infinite.)
(or the auto-teleport setting, etc)

It can't be solved?
I'm not sure if there's any reliable fix for it, though someone in that thread says they fixed it by teleporting the NPC around with commands each time
(i.e. a temporary "do this weird thing every time" workaround)

@zinc canopy Yes, it works in multiplayer. It has the NPC event issue and possibly a few other known problems, but nothing major (as far as I've seen)

Yes, that's for custom NPCs. Heart events do work for farmhands, but festivals and marriage for custom NPCs do not work
A vanilla NPC is one like Abigail or Lewis, even if a mod adds new heart events for them it will work for all farmhands.
A custom NPC is one like Sophia or Lyell - farmhands can get friendship with them and see heart events, but they can't marry them (or the game might crash) and they can't see them at festivals (they're invisible)

To play SVE without the new NPCs it adds? No you can't
If the farmhand NPC issue is a problem, you could just agree to have nobody marry the new NPCs, but still enjoy the new content and heart events they bring

Yeah. Hopefully a future game update or framework mod update will allow a way to fix it

Yes. Just don't download/use the IF2R folder that comes with SVE
(and there are a few farm map mods out there that don't work with SVE, but most do)

Hello there, sorry to just jump in and right away fire off questions, but I am having some trouble using a specific animated mod and I wondered if anyone could help me, please?
I'm having an issue when trying to install a new mod. This is my error log. https://smapi.io/log/3baddfd87d4341e0b257164efa485b06 It's saying that it's not finding an asset that ends in tbin but all the assets are there in png form? Is there an easy way to fix this?

That's the thing, it's not registering on the log because it appears to be a non standard, non zip file. It's for animated gemstones and I have some rar files, but no idea where to put them to make it work. I did get the Animated content patcher file and installed that also
Well, non 'non standard' but not normal for a mod file ....for me at least.
@tepid hawk I think there's probably a typo in the content.json file, from what you're saying. If the file in the assets folder is in png form, it should say Dragon_Sad_Blue.png for the line that's not processing correctly. You can leave a comment for the mod author to know they should fix that.
If you're open to editing it yourself, you can open the content.json file using a text editor (Notepad works but I recommend Notepad++), find the line that says Dragon_Sad_Blue.tbin and change it to Dragon_Sad_Blue.png

You can always make a copy of the content.json so you can revert 
@fervent flower can you link what you downloaded? I've used Animated Gemstones, and it should come with a folder that has all the necessary files, so all you need to do is unzip the complete folder into your Mods folder and it should work.
Ok, you just need the main file, and then run the game with the main file installed, and a config file should be generated
This is how it came down into my d/l folder
it looks like you got the optional config file, which you shouldn't need if SMAPI generates the config file

neither of the files you're showing seem to be the main file on the mod page o.o download the main file, and then unzip the folder in the main file download into your Mods folder
That is downloading the main file, using the button on the nexus mod page that says 'manual' gives me exactly that .rar file
(The highlighted item is a rar file, just with a notepad icon.)
(It should be able to just be unzipped.)
@royal arrow as far as the mod, this one is only on the Starbound forums, so I'm not sure how to leave a note. It was this mod - https://community.playstarbound.com/threads/migrating-xnb-mods-to-content-patcher-packs.141577/page-45#post-3300239 which is not listed in the smapi.io mods I found it on this list here - https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Using_XNB_mods The mod is called Horses to Dragons/Pegasi
But I can confirm that changing it from .tbin to .png in the content file did fix the error

Then you (or someone else if you are not comfortable making a wiki account right now) can edit the alternatives wiki to point to your version instead of the old one :)

I think I used up all of my spoons today figuring out how to get this mod and fix it so it worked just for me @restive zodiac or I would try and do that thing to fix it for others.
(Unfortunately the author packaged it as a rar file instead of a zip (which doesn't require any other software on any PC OS), so if you don't have something that can unrar yet, you'll have to download something.)
yea and 7zip is free, it's what I use. It can open almost any compressed file type

You can accidentally associate things with the wrong program via "open with", but in this case it might have just defaulted to that in confusion since there was nothing installed to handle that extension
(poor windows, hurting itself in its confusion)

Gabi, have you found your Mods folder in your game folder? (https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Find_your_game_folder if not). If you're looking at it, make sure you've unzipped the mod you downloaded so that it's a regular folder and not a zip, and also that you've downloaded and installed the required mods, too (Content Patcher, PyTK and TMXL in this case)

Click the link I sent for how to find your game folder - that's where your Mods folder should be. If not, SMAPI is not installed correctly.

peepo, I don't know, that's part of investigating. It's happening when you warp to the farm, but wanting to know if it was save specific and if you have overwritten any game files was part of trying to narrow it down.

Gabi, all mods you install need to be unzipped into your Mods folder, yep! That's where SMAPI will be able to find them and load them up. There are some rare or old mods that ask you to replace files directly in the game's Content folder, but there are usually alternatives to those.

I just looked over your log again to see how often it happened, because I could see it was not every time you went to the farm, and noticed you returned to title several/a few times. I can't guarantee it is the cause, but if you play on your regular save from a fresh start (no reloading to title), does it still happen? Exit to title can be screwy with mods, although you have very few installed so it's weird either way.
is there a way to only use a mod in one world?
You can start the game without SMAPI at all by just running the regular chicken Stardew Valley.exe in your game folder (Instead of the pufferchick StardewModdingAPI.exe), or rename your Mods folder temporarily to still run SMAPI without mods, or you can set up your own little profile shortcuts as described here https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Player_Guide/Getting_Started#Can_I_have_different_mod_groups.3F @vapid haven
It doesn't seem to happen at any point before the exit, so it's possible it could be related. Confirming it happens even without doing that would narrow it down at least, I guess

ok so the mods are only applied as long as i start the game with smapi, if i just start it from my desktop they wont register?
If it's the exit to title causing it, it would not be related to your save at all, just Mods not handling it well when you restart to title instead of exiting all the way out of the game (this is common). If it happens even without exiting to title it's possible it's something save related, although even then I'm sure it would be fixable since it still loads and everything :)

@supple echo I think it goes to a new area added by the TMX pack. Make sure you installed all three parts of IF2R, not just one folder. You can share your log via https://smapi.io/log if you need someone to look it over still!

the hairstyle mod you want to use is a cp mod, not a content pack for get glam
what i mean is that you can use get glam to use multiple hair content packs. unfortunately if the hairstyle mod you want to use is cp only, you need to convert it to a get glam content pack if you don't want it to overwrite another cp hairstyle mod

That's a compressed/archive file, you need to uncompress it/extract the folder inside it to somewhere like your Desktop.

Alen, if it's one of those cases in which SMAPI says it needs an update but you know you have the latest version, you can edit the version number in the manifest.json file to match with the version SMAPI says it should be. You open the manifest.json in any text editor (Notepad works, I use Notepad++) and change the version number

Alen, I mentioned in my previous message, you set the version # to what SMAPI says it should be. I assume the mod in question is in nexus, so the same version # that's on nexus is what SMAPI should say, so that's what the version # should be in the manifest.json

Hi Alen, you have some mods that weren't loaded in the first block of red text, Skipped mods:
Entoarox Framework 2.4.0 because it's no longer compatible. Please check for a new version at https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/2269 or https://smapi.io/mods
Advanced Location Loader 1.4.7 because it needs the 'Entoarox Framework' mod, which couldn't be loaded.
If you update Entoarox Framework, that might fix your issues

@heavy sail I'd uninstall Amelia and see if that helps. She seems to have been hidden by the author on Nexus, and there's a message that sounds like she needs a little tlc before she's really ready to use. The first red error in your smapi log refers back to "bad npc gift taste data" and she is throwing one of those errors earlier in the log.

Ah, yes so there used to be a process for removing custom NPCs, but now you can just remove the mod and SMAPI will remove the necessary references, yea
you'll get an error message popup when you load the save after the npc has been removed, but that's just smapi telling you it did its work

You should divorce any custom NPC you marry before uninstalling them but otherwise yeah :)

I know some of the standard questions are:
- did you at one point use any XNB mods?
- does it happen when you load the game without mods?
- does it happen on a new save?
- try removing all your mods and adding them back in slowly to see if there's a specific mod causing the issue
This type of error is the one I'm not well-versed in, unfortunately 😅 (weird game and SMAPI ones) so hopefully someone else will be able to chime in
@zinc canopy your smapi log says you need some mods for sve which aren't installed. Have you tried installing those?
I did use XNB mods once, but I reinstalled the game, and had the same issues, no mod started the issue until I hit Mon. 22 (Winter) in Stardew. (double-checked with backups)
I'll try to check a new save, and try Vanilla Stardew.
I'm not sure if Vanilla Stardew will help however, the issue said it was game related.
You'd be surprised, sometimes mod issues will say "game" in the log o.o

I wouldnt know what's causing it, but the specific error that's happening is trying to parse out an item from NPCGiftTastes, if that helps narrow it down
I read the error log, and I see an issue with "Digus.ProducerFrameworkMod"
the log will throw errors that says it's from the game if the error occurs in the game code, but the ultimate source of what changed things so that an error potentially happens later down the line could be a mod
that's just mentioning that that method is patched by ProducerFrameworkMod. That could be a source of the error, but a lot of things happens during dayupdate and i dont think PFM touches NPC gift tastes
@zinc canopy it looks like some files for SVE are missing. If you did install all the ones that came with the translated version, maybe it was meant to be used to replace only some folders in the main SVE version, instead of as a standalone.
You should go to the main SVE page and look under old files to find version 1.10.2, download that, and install from it any folders that weren't included in the translated SVE.

@heavy sail Okay, I went into the NPC Nagito files and tried to fix what might be causing the issue. Delete your copy of the mod and install this one instead, then open your game up again.
If it works, I'll report the issue to the mod author so that they can fix it.
If it spammed for awhile, it might have just blown up in size too big for the site to handle - can you drag the log file here to Discord?

I think you should install SVE completely, make sure that it works in English, then replace files in the CP folder with the ones in the translation, vs using only the translation's version of the folder. Does that make sense?

heres to hoping I downloaded flower valley and all the other custom/replacement mods right
I know you downloaded the English one, but I was thinking of it as a folder replace vs a file replace. Since it replaces the content.json, it wouldn't matter anyway. You could try replacing all the files except the content.json and seeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeno that wouldn't work either, the events and such are all written in the content.json
I don't think it's going to work until the translation author updates, or you get an older copy of SVE.

You might be also using a content patcher mod that patches on top of the changed XNB assets so you don't see them @vapid haven
If you have any SMAPI mods (or content patcher packs) that edit/replace the same asset as the XNB mod, you won't see the ... right that.

SVE is really not translation-friendly at all, especially with not keeping older versions available to download. That's frustrating. 
I get that you have heard the advice before, but just to try to phrase it in a different way to make sure it's clear, there are a lot of reasons XNB mods are not recommended, and it's not just because they're more of a pain to install, harder to uninstall, and don't show up in the log for troubleshooting. They're a really old method of modding and replacing game files with extremely outdated versions can seriously fuck up your game. Have you already looked for CP versions of the mod you want to use?

If you check out the assets folder, it's full of the vanilla files, already unpacked! You can unpack https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Editing_XNB_files#Unpack_game_files the XNB mod you want to use, and it will give you a whole bunch of PNGs that you can compare with the DIYCP ones. If they're the same number of frames, you can just replace them. If the DIYCP pack has more frames, you'll have to either...
a) give the fantasy sprites pngs a real update by adding the new frames and editing them to match the rest
b) just merge them so some frames may revert to vanilla but still work
c) still replace the png in the assets folder, but edit the DIYCP content.json just slightly to make it not replace the whole thing. This is a simple edit in notepad we can give you examples of, it will just look confusing at first.

It will give you PNGs like Characters/Abigail.png, which you can drag in and replace DIYCP's assets/Characters/Abigail.png.
For the characters that haven't changed in a couple years, that's all you'd need to do for your personal edit! But as Cherry mentioned, there was a big content update since the XNB mod was replaced, so we should compare the vanilla and modded PNGs to see which ones changed. (Like maybe DIYCP has some pngs that are longer than the ones you have from the xnb mod)

Would you look at my npc john? People are getting a error in multiplayer where if 1 person meets john, then the game tries to load both the invisible sprites and after meeting sprites. Is there anyway to fix this

@heavy sail are you sure it's not Amelia NPC that's part of the problem? That's the only thing I can see. Unfortunately her mod is hidden on nexus so I can't look more into it.

I'm just asking what your intention was with that specific patch. I was going through the json while the game loads. This line "HasFlag":"currentPlayer,hostPlayer" can go, since it's not doing anything.

I was just commenting on the patch because I saw it in the json as I was going through it. I mentioned it because that line wasn't doing anything, I do not know yet what is causing your specific problem.

The error in the last log you gave me is about the EditData patch I mentioned
Multiple patches want to load Characters\John (JohnNpc > EditData, JohnNpc > Sprites #2). None will be applied.
Is there a way to see if a mod is compatable with/can work on mobile smapi?
there's currently not any standardized way. Sometimes the mod page itself, or comments in the mod page will mention if its android-compatible or not.

That's how IF2R should look anyway - SVE doesn't edit the farm by itself. A better way to ask for a double check is to upload your log to https://smapi.io/log and share the link here - screenshots just show a tiny little bit where your log gives all your mods installed, any errors or warnings. etc!

This is the actual error - I realized belatedly that the editdata oops wouldn't cause that (since the whole point was that it wasn't loading and CP wouldn't know what to do with it), but rather the logname was editdata. Both of those say "load this sprite if true", maybe one of them was meant to be false?

You still make different mod folders, but you can then make shortcuts for opening them.

I hear you Gabi! I was nervous about it at first, and now I love having multiple shortcuts for Stardew Valley depending on if it's the main one, the alternate one, the testing one, the multiplayer one, or the SVE one (which I haven't used yet

What finally convinced me was wanting to test mods without waiting 8 years for my 294 mods to load LOL so who knows, there might be some proverbial last straw that encourages you to go for it, or you'll be able to manage without it just fine

Check out Life Cycle on nexus, I think it does that
"bad npc gift taste data" isnt actually a big deal. Its caused by the writer forgetting the final / in the gift tastes and they should still work fine. It's also really easy to fix I'd you're not afraid to edit files.

I've got most of the mods that Bakyu~N! Is having trouble with and mine seems fine. Might be worth disabling some and seeing if they can narrow down the bone cause errors? Input string is often caused by tmxl containing a random space somewhere in my experience. So anything new theyve installed?
The error started June 22 for me, so I can check to see what mod is causing it
Ok, I think I have a possible solution for my issue, it started after I download the mod "Better Artisan Good Icons," so maybe that's a possible fix.

In future I will try to let people know that I am just a player who started in on this server a month ago and my advice is much less to be trusted than the people who have been here longer. It looked like an issue to me because of the gift taste oddity in your smapi log, but Lemurkat would definitely know better.

Well, after I downloaded SMAPI 3.6.1, my old backups started disappearing from the save-backups folder, I'm not exactly sure if I go back before the issue started.

Most mods are fine to use together unless they do the exact same thing, and PC has a lot less to worry abotu than Android.
Remember that each individual content pack counts as a mod too, so for example SVE would not be 1 mod, it would be like 6. + dependencies. Most NPC mods are in several parts like that for different frameworks, you can easily have several CP mods that all edit different parts of the same file, etc.
Loading up my first save with all the custom NPC's I can find that seem to be currently working... fingerscrossed

Control the flow of time in the game: speed it up, slow it down, or freeze it altogether. This can happen automatically or when you press a key in the game.

If you're on Multiplayer, I highly recommend Multiplayer Time mod
The reason multiplayer goes so fast is because the game doesn't pause anymore during menus, cutscenes, and dialogue
Multiplayer Time fixes that. If everyone is doing something that should pause, the game will actually pause.
So if someone is doing a long heart event or something, you can holler to the other players to bring up their inventory menus. Ta-da, time stops.
Or you can all spend time organizing chests together in the morning and time will be mostly paused for that
There are little indicators that show when the other players are paused too, so even if you just noticed they are paused you can choose to be courteous and join them for a minute :)
(Only if everyone else pauses at the same time)
Everyone has to be paused for time to stop. So if 2 people are in minigames, one is in a heart event, and one is buying from a shop - time will stop but everyone can keep doing what they're doing
Alen-I haven't played multiplayer with SVE, but the requirements for getting that sewer key in SVE are 5 hearts with Gunther and reaching the bottom of the mines. I would guess that each player had to do those individually, but not sure.
It's hard trying to figure out what's causing my issue, no luck yet.

BAGI is a hit or miss and I don't think it rly works very well at all with other JA packs. I don't think there is an error more than you just being unlucky

wherever you downloaded the mod from, I'd take the hyperlink from the site you used and send it to your other players if they want to play with mods. Also try checking the comments in those mods to make sure they work with multiplayer-some have bugs

You can also just zip up your mods folder and send it to them that way, as long as it's just personal to share with your friends (privately, not like here or on the Nexus etc). Or if you're not sure who you're going to be playing with, you could use something like this https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5131 which will make a spreadsheet of all the installed mods you have.

Just to rule out the most obvious thing on the smapi log tho, do you have a mod that messes with time and have you tried disabling it or giving it different commands?
depravityPD, I see the TMXL warnings are for stuff added by SVE, so, shot in the dark here, but did you recently update SVE? If so, did you delete all the previous folders and then installed the new ones? SVE is one of those mods for which the file/folder structure changes a lot with each update, so if you do overwrite rather than delete the old folders and install the new ones, you may have issues
But also to Halla's point, you do have TimeSpeed installed, try tweaking the settings or temporarily removing it to see if that helps

My mods are not working and Im not sure I installed them properly. I looked on the wiki and found this
Install mods
To install a mod, just unzip it into the Mods folder in your game folder. Make sure each mod has its own subfolder, without trailing numbers. For example, if you have a PineapplesEverywhere mod, you should have a file structure like this:

PineapplesEverywhere/
PineapplesEverywhere.dll
manifest.json
Question is what If the folder has a subfolder called assets, or another files besides the .dll and .json
@zinc smelt You need to leave all the files and folders inside the mod folder where they are, and just keep the mod folder itself in Mods.
So you can just as easily have a structure like

PineapplesEverywhere.dll
manifest.json
assets/
mymap.tbin```
or ```Stardew Valley/
Mods/
PineapplesEverywhere/
PineapplesEverywhere.dll

Sebastian.png``` but the point is that they all stay snug in their `PineapplesEverywhere` mod folder, inside the Mods folder :)

Nolan, it looks like most of the actual mod assets are missing. Are you using a mod manager like Vortex or ModDrop? Did you download the mods yourself? If all you did was unzip the folders and drag them into Mods, it could possibly be an overzealous antivirus, too.
