Only if you don't need to run any software. That is, if you're going into an computer science, engineering, or science programs, a chromebook likely won't cut it

Largest change is the NPC folders are consolidated within the main SVE folder.
Android lag can be fixed by editing the FTM monster settings to 0
Yeah. There's a map that causes some phones to lag quite a bit 
(The weird thing about performance in general is that not all Android users even have a problem, and some PC users do. )

@rare quest and @tepid creek I was thinking of doing a separate "compatibility pack" for all patched recolors + SVE that's just written to patch for any created recolor, but just starting with Starblue at the moment. I know someone mentioned recently having asked permission to recolor their own personal map tilesheet for an interior recolor and were told that the recolor author preferred to host it (which requires the recolor author to update), so is that even an option in this particular case? Or would Lita prefer it being added to main Starblue, or Flash to main SVE? 
uhhh unless the new update removes vanilla looking custom interior tiles in which case ignore this message :P

It's not a shader. All it does is recolor each pixel data in the Texture2Ds. Which does suffice for simple recolors.
Half the people asking about different recolors are just looking for slight desaturation, which they can just press a key to do

The bug has to do with BlueMoonVineyard and SophiaHouse.

There was actually a hard crash during the 1.10 beta whenever Sophia entered her Cellar. I had to remove those schedules in this update to prevent that haha.

Weird. I can see why most npcs do the top left corner hangout, since the locations have to be added to NPC Map Locations for them to register on the map (not a bug), but I don't even know how it would do the crash for cellar

Same. Players were reporting it happened at 5:30pm on the dot...had no idea why. Turns out, Sophia enters her cellar at 5:30pm during her Monday schedule. I recreated this with other NPCs at different times. It's because of the cellar map (idk why though!)

@dawn tulip not certain but you could always use cjb cheats or item spawn to get the upgraded item and just dump a bunch of your money for the right amount of the upgrade you want, that's if there really isn't a mod available for it. CJB cheats may have an option for it too (though I haven't used it before myself)
I guess thats the only solution. I don't want the use CBJ Cheats menu because its too OP and I have ruined save files using it
I guess maybe I can go into some json file and find the value that it takes Clint to upgrade a weapon. I still can't believe there is no mod for this

just went to play modded stardew for the first time in awhile, and it says the SMAPI version i have isn't compatible with the game version i am running. Is there an updated mod loader around, or do we have to wait a bit? (I'm not even sure when the last time the game updated was, so i totally understand if it just updated and the mod devs haven't had time to update)

(I do think it's easier to install mods manually though, if nothing else because most of the people here don't use a manager and so will have trouble helping if there's some manager specific issue that comes up. Drag and drop into folder is pretty simple.)
yeah, I get that. If vortex ever fails on me, i'll probably just start doing that, it's how i do most of my games. I mainly use it for the multiple mod profiles since i had several different games with different friends and mods.

Hey! I have a little question, I'm on my first year on SVE, I have a lot of characters hearts quite maxed (marriage candidates at 8, more or less, and the others around 6 or 7) Do you know if I don't start over I will miss a lot of events?

I'm a person with anxiety, and the default game time really stresses me out, I feel like I'd never have a fulfilling experience when i'm always running all the (game) day.
I realized that playing some real life minutes, make the trash cans refresh collect time, and the npc dialog times also refresh, so i can talk with them, the same dialogs
Game tics don't happen if you were to stop time
So no crop growth, machine time freezes
is possible to make it work?
idk if the automate mod does some of it works

@cobalt tendon but it already happwns even with time frozen, or is better for me to install this mod so i can have this happen even at default 10m increments?
unfortunately I cant find anything that make machines/animals produce, crops/trees/grass grow and debris respawn in frozen time. i think your best option would be maybe to slow the in game time down, that way you don't feel rushed to do everything so quickly in one game day. (one in game day is about 13 rl mins)
timespeed or time multiplayer does that

Yes. You don't need the mods folder though. Most saves will work the same without mods, but some mods can cause errors.

Look for items with mangled sprites, honey that has no name and can't be picked up (you will need Carry Chest if it's this), or the name Error Item.
The only thing that I think I changed re: JsonAssets packs is that I deleted the old jsonassets folder from the previous version of SVE

(It's not my mod, I just keep it up-to-date while the author is away.) Unfortunately pausing time will prevent the normal time updates from happening; it'd require some rewriting of the mod to avoid that.
is possible to have some small mod or tweak to have it?
One option is to use CJB Cheats Menu, which lets you change the time. So you can play through the day normally, and when it's getting late just set time back to 8am or something.
I don't know of any mod that does that, but it wouldn't be very hard to do. You could try posting a suggestion on https://github.com/StardewModders/mod-ideas to see if a modder wants to do it.

I'm trying to fix a problem that causes the roe to look like this (and completely erases the images of objects like the Void Pendant). As far as I know, springobjects.png is only edited by one mod and shouldn't affect the appearance of roe and other new items?

Hey, when I updated SVE the map shows the new characters but when I go to those locations they aren't there. Did I not install something correctly or are the characters just not there at the moment?

But when I delete the NPC map locations mod the map just reverts back to vanilla and the characters still dont show up

@exotic plover SVE should already have been compatible with Starblue, except that the new interior changes will probably clash with any custom interior tiles added by SVE. You can disable interiors in the Starblue config.json if it bothers you.

Is anyone aware of any mods that allow you to move garden pots without destroying them or the crops growing inside it? I can only find the one that harvests fully grown crops upon breaking/allows watering with sprinklers/and beehouse recognition (mod I'm talking about: https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/2209?tab=description). It's not quite what I'm looking for and I'm hoping for something that can allow for garden pot movability. (I'm stupid and set down plants in the house before the second upgrade and now the pots are just obstructive to moving around

Hi guys, I'm new so sorry if you've already been over this in another chat or something or if this is redundant at all. It seems a lot of people are having bugs with the new SVE update but I haven't seen anything about my issue, which is that the map isn't working at all? It keeps saying that certain files aren't loading because I have more than one file installed, but I made sure to delete all past SVE files before I downloaded the new update, and I even went through and deleted everything and downloaded everything again just to make sure - still won't load. I'm not sure exactly what to do, but hoping someone can help?
Iβve spent a couple hours attempting to learn what you guys do in mere minutes and am stuck. In trying to configure some mods with the JSON files, I accidentally clicked βalways open with Internet Explorer.β I have no idea how to correct this, and I also still donβt know how to configure the mods with text to see results in the game. I'm really not sure what I'm doing wrong. I was playing with my friend who just downloaded the SVE mod today, and she could see the SVE world perfectly even though I couldn't, so I think it's definitely something I'm doing, although I can't find the files that the SMAPI log says are still installed. I don't know what to dooo π¦

@restive zodiac , there is no longer an "open with" option when I right click them anymore. That exact thing happened at first, and I accidentally clicked to always open with IE. I don't even know what a text editor is. It's been hours of reading and trying to piece together how to do this when I don't understand the vocabulary used and am not computer savvy, whatsoever. xD

I do not, though I think I saw it as an option before clicking IE. Now right clicking the json files doesn't offer the option. I think so. Before I did this IE nonsense, launching the game showed a text saying the mods were working.
You only have 2 mods loaded, the others that smapi ignored are zip files I think

okay- I found the folder that has the old map mods and I took it out, and it seems fine (now when SDV starts up it says running 42 mods instead of 40, so that's cleared up). however, when I run the game without that folder installed, my game just stays on the 'loading...' screen and won't actually go into the world. I'm really at a loss right now, I don't know what I should do.

Setting the max children to 0 makes you never get asked.

(Child Bed Config will handle the map part, the getting rid of the beds/crib, but you do need to edit the config for that one, it looks like)

You don't need to do anything in the config.json for Family Planning. For child bed config it looks like you need to add your farmer name and change the various trues to false

Can confirm the floors and walls are modifiable. Honestly beyond happy that I won't be nagged to have kids and look at that eyesore crib. Now the problem is I want to see what other mods are out there, like changing my horse's color--and I know there's a seasonal clothing one. π

Hey guys, this is the first time I've had to upgrade SVE by removing files first. I understand how to remove and add files, but my main worry is the effect on an existing save file. Is it possible to update that game or am I out of luck. If it is as simple as a command with links, please point me in the right direction. I just really need some Stardew Today.

to make custom layers you need PyTK. Name your custom layer anything you'd like, but it needs to have the layer property DrawBefore:Buildings if you want it to be above the back layer but before the buildings layer

Yeah that's a bug. Custom layers don't show up immediately in farmhouse, you need to exit and reeenter in order for them to appear

I updated my Stardew Valley Expanded with the new update that came out today (yesterday technically) 1.10 and it fixed my crashing after sleep problem. It's also worth noting that I cut my third player who may have installed something incorrectly, so it's just the two of us now, but I'm pretty sure it was updating to SVE 1.10 that fixed the crash.

Flash mentioned an issue with NPC Map Locations with a crash when Sophia went to her cellar (so he doesn't have her going there anymore). That seems likely related. If so, I gather the NPC Map Locations author is looking into it.

I did a lot of work and at 5pm i entered sophia house i had that heart event, i opened my map in her cellar and it froze

Which NPCs for SVE are supposed to show up in the social menu. I'm only seeing Andy, Victor, Olivia and Sophia but I was under the assumption that SVE had more then 4 new NPCs
You don't meet all of them right away. (Check the mod description page for all the stuff that's added.)
i read that the crash only happens if you open the map in the cellar, don't know if it's true obviously
i'm trying to start a new game with the Witchy Crystal Farm 2.0, and it can't find Spring_Waterfall_Cave.png tilesheet, although the file is in the correct location in the assets folder, with the exact name and correct permissions as far as i know. what might be the problem? https://smapi.io/log/6e211c03c7784371a842beb84e7b3b2d

Should be able to. Are you playing the Android version of the game? (It's possible to install the Linux version on Chromebooks too)
I am playing through steam (i installed it using the linux beta option in chromebook settings)

Great. You should just be able to type ./install on Linux.sh and press Enter to run the script

And since it'll be in a subdirectory, the command you'll need should be:

In the terminal. That command would be right if you had extracted the .zip directly into your home directory

Just looked into this. You'll need to drag and drop the entire "SMAPI 3.4.1 installer" folder on the left-hand side into the "Linux files" folder to make it visible to the terminal
I'm not sure exactly how Chrome OS will arrange things, so could you give the ls -l command in the terminal and send the results?
Perfect. Now that command from before should actually work:
./SMAPI\ 3.4.1\ installer/install\ on\ Linux.sh
It says permission denied
Let's hope that's just a little problem we can fix with the way the files extracted and not a Chrome OS restriction. If it's the little problem, this should fix the permissions:
chmod a+x SMAPI*/*.sh SMAPI*/*/*.exe
No errors is good. Now try the previous command again (shortcut: you can press the up arrow key to go through commands you've entered previously, then just press enter when you find the one you want)

Yay! Oh, you found the Mods subdirectory in the SDV app directory?
If so, just unzip the mods into there and you should be good to go
Yep, once you unzip a mod into the Mods directory, just run the game and it should work
(My experiment from awhile back did not like the lack of hardware acceleration, but I imagine newer models and later updates fare better ... )
If you run into any mods not working on Linux, it's probably because of some inconsistent capitalization in the mod's folder and file names. If the mod author fixes that we're usually fine

I'm having some trouble with mods, and I'd really appreciate any help I can get π Basically, I went through all my mods to update them, these mods basically amounting to SVE, the accompanying IF2R, and the mods required to run these. The game loads fine, but when I try to open my save it loads indefinitely, mods not being found and crashing. How can I fix this/what have I done wrong when updating? It looks like you are having mono issues. I would first make sure you've installed it (reinstalling if needed) https://www.mono-project.com/download/stable/) and if it still doesn't work you may have to install mono-libgdiplus specifically

ERROR SMAPI - [PFM] So Many Horses 1.1.4 because it requires mods which aren't installed (Ivycrowned.BFAVSoManyHorses).
