you guys are making me want to get more mods but the last time i tried to get some mods i got a virus in a language i dont know 
ok. i'm having trouble with my mods
yesterday, i downloaded SMAPI and the mods i wanted. worked completely fine. today, the game completely freezes when i try to open the game through the SMAPI application in the game files
i'm running everything the exact same way i did it yesterday. anybody know what's happening?
what errors are you getting in the console

maybe some mod conflicts or mods not updated
the only mods i'm using are SVE and the ones required to run that. as well as a few animated item mods. i downloaded them at like 1am this morning so i doubt it'll be an update problem
and the game was working completely fine then. no trouble running at all with all mods working completely fine
as of loading the character, it's loading Json Assets but is taking a weirdly long time
json assets in itself is literally only 503kb in size so i don't think the loading should take this long
I don't use SVE so I don't know what could cause such an issue... if it's taking a long time it's probably loading all the new assets from SVE

And the console isn't giving you any errors?
i have about 7 times
then i'd say try uninstalling all mods, run the game and then add them back in one by one until the error pops up again
i'll try, but i don't think the mods clashing would be a problem since they're all dependencies for SVE
might've just been a bad install or something wrong while unpacking the mods into the mods folder
clean reinstall of the mods should fix any issues
I have a question of my own... Isn't there a command for smapi that clears the farm of rubble etc. ?
if anyone can help me out with this one ^ >.> I'm pretty sure it started with like World_State clear or whatever but I can't seem to find it...

Could someone help me? Im trying to use the unofficial paritee's better animal variety mod but the format for that is different from the format for the animal mods.
Nymph, there are some conversions already up you could check. They just go in the Mods folder as content packs. Like the optional content pack download from this one https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4000?tab=files
So i could only use the ones that have the conversions?
@robust bison Like Ria said, you/they can just type help in the console to get all the SMAPI specific (and mod added) commands! In this case they were looking for world_clear mapname debris/trees/grass/fruit-trees/everything :) (There's also the Reset Terrain Features mod, which has a nice in-game menu for all that.)
@sweet oracle Anything that gets installed directly into the Mods folder should be fine. I know Spring and people did a ton of conversions so I imagine any BFAV mod updated/posted after end of November 2019 probably has content pack version

There's a lot of information in the full log that we don't get from just an error, like all the mods you're using and their current versions. I'm guessing you need to update PyTK/TMXL.
Update anything in the log that says you can update and then try again.
It doesn't say anything because that's just the error, not the log.

Panyel, there was a small mod made for that some time ago that someone dug up for me, but after I tested it it didn't seem to work. (It still runs, and the commands work, but the nightly events I tested don't actually trigger.) I don't know of an equivalent off the top of my head.

Panyel you can probably do a debug command, but you would have to find the event id...
(Nightly events are not the same as the ones you trigger when you walk into whatever location, just to clarify, so it's not something you'd find in the event files and use the same command for.)

Some of it is Yellogs furniture set they have released on nexus but they were also working on a new set for a while, but haven't released it yet and some pieces look like what were in the preview. I assume it's just her unreleased set

So, I've read that some Harmony mods work on mobile now?
Since mobile is on sale I'm considering getting it but I'd only really want to if all my must have mods are compatible
I'm not sure what the current status of SMAPI stuff in general with mobile is. Martyr had Harmony mods working on mobile for some time, and I think had a couple rewriters for some common differences. There were still ones that wouldn't work or would need special support because of the differences in game code between PC and mobile, but at least SMAPI 3.0+ added some android detecting stuff for that.
Haven't seen Martyr in a monthish, and the people around here with mods working seem to be using Zane's on the play store, which was re-forked from Martyr's I think 
Another question! It also says I could try chat commands to easier change the skins in game. Is that something you'd recommend?
Chat Commands is handy in general, but it's more just if you'd rather type into chat vs typing into SMAPI console

Look at https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/3167's skins pack for an example, skins should be named for the vanilla animal they're for, like whitechicken_4 or Dinosaur_3
Like this example:
To set Chirpchirp's skin to whitechicken_4, we then need to call set_skin 4 3, which calls the set_skin function on the creature with the ID of 3, which happens to be Chirpchirp, and gives it the fourth skin of that creature's type (Chirpchirp is a whitechicken, so that's the skin named whitechicken_4).
anyone using animated gemstones .. i am having an issue on a save file ... the gems show up as they should but the animations will not work .. i loaded a new save and they work fine .. is there a way to figure out what happen by the log? if so can it be fixed to work or do i just need to restart ?
( future warning to self .... object reset works .. but lose your chests and everything in them .... 😭)
I think I'm using that, but I can't think of anything that would care about it being an existing save. A log would help, ideally with a patch summary.

i sent a message to the creator just incase anyone else has the issue .. but yea it works on a new save and when i object reset .. they started working ... but lost my tools
yea before the reset even item spawn wasnt showing animated
only reason i found out it worked at all was i took all mods and put them in a separate mods file and loaded with short cut to see if there was a conflict mod ...

Seems to work for me. Even just looking in the spawner without spawning them I can see sparkly icons for minerals.

It worked in spawner, I spawned some, still worked, walked outside, stopped working. Neither going back in or re-sleeping fixed it. Exiting to title and reloading could do same thing. But now it doesn't do it at all. lays down

how do I add custom furniture
Most furniture mods are either recolors using Content Patcher, or additions using Custom Furniture. (Or some big craftables using JSON Assets.) Whichever mod you want to download will say what it requires. All three of those frameworks, and all the packs made for them, just get installed directly into the Mods folder like any other mod :)
You can look at the Custom Furniture page https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/1254 and drop down the Requirements section to see a list of all the packs that list CF as a requirement on Nexus.
Hey, I got a small problem concerning my modded game right now. Normally whenever I got a problem with a mod I can somehow finger out which mod is creating the error through smapi, But this time its different. My problem right now is : When the wedding event would trigger after the night my game crashes and I get the following error : “_newDayTask failed with an exception”.
My question is if anyone could help me to figure out which mod triggers this error.

The short version is you download it and get a zip file, open the zip file and take the entire installer folder out and put it on your desktop or somewhere, then open that folder (not inside the zip) and run the installer for your OS. (Not from internal folder)
Is the SMAPI for android fix?
I'm not sure which version is working best right now, but if you're having trouble with one you could try the other. Zane's fork of Martyr's is on the play store.

You need to download SMAPI from https://smapi.io/. It will give you a zip file. That's not the right folder.

I'm reading about XNB files. Are all portrait mods this sort of file?
Once you run the SMAPI installer, the last screen gives you the full line to copy into your Steam launch options. Then you just start the game from Steam as normal, and it will launch SMAPI instead of the vanilla game.

No Buttercup, as a community we've moved away from overwriting game files directly for a lot of reasons. Most of the XNB mods you find on the Nexus will be out of date and may cause issues with your game even if you install them right. (It's easy to overwrite the wrong version of a file.)

Last update this mod had was from 2017. Don't know if that means it's most likely a XNB file for I don't know when everyone started moving away from those-

@viral crow You can easily see if someone is an XNB mod by the install instructions - if it goes in the Mods folder, it's not an XNB mod - or the files inside (like a Content folder). But yeah, 2017 is probably an XNB mod)=, That said, even CP mods can be outdated, too! If they're really old and replaced whole files, and the vanilla game has changed those files since, they can revert those changes. It's much easier to uninstall a CP mod than one that overwrites game files though, and they show up in a log for troubleshooting.

You might have to try temporarily renaming your Mods folder to make sure it works with SMAPI and no mods, then add half back, and add/remove halvsies until you track it down

No need to be embarrassed, but the mod is out of date and replaces XNB files for the most part. It looks like there's an updatedish Seasonal version here https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/5494 (that unfortunately installs into SVO https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/2449 so who knows how long it can stay compatible) @viral crow

single-player and multiplayer. In multiplayer mode it must be installed by the main player, and any farmhands that want to use the tractor features. Farmhands who don't have it installed won't have any issues, they just won't see the tractor textures or be able to use its features.
It does require the tilesheets pack yes, Bunbun, and CP of course which you already have!

Hey Mouse, Do you use Starblue ... I did the removing one at a time mod again... when i added starblue back in the animations on the gemstones stopped ... if it isn't too much problem do you mind checking to see if that fixes it for you
(i still have like 40 mods left to go through to see if that is the only mod that fixed it for me)
Starblue does recolor springobjects, but I wonder why one would not just overwrite the other and not sometimes work 
hmm is there a way to bypass the object recolors for just the minerals

@viral crow You need to take the mod folders out of the zips - see how SaveBackup and ConsoleCommands are just regular folders? The others just need to be extracted.

Reset Terrain Features (https://www.nexusmods.com/stardewvalley/mods/4715) is a mod that allows you to reset, clear, or generate everything that spawns on a map via an in-game menu. This is especially useful when changing maps mid-save, as the debris will still use the old layout (causing things like trees in the water or bushes blocking exits) until reset.

It's supposed to only reset the terrain features like bushes, debris etc

Those are usually because the author hasn’t updated the manifest. You can ignore those.
If you want to stop the notifications, you will need to change the version number in the manifest to match the latest version on Nexus
Yeah, it’s when the developer hasn’t updated the manifest so SMAPI thinks there’s an update even though you’re up to date

they aren't, the farm just uses different bridge textures when unmodded

From a reddit comment: On PC, stay on your farm and go at the bottom of the options and you'll see a Camera button. Press it and it'll take a screenshot of the entire map you are currently on and it'll save it to AppData\Roaming\StardewValley\Screenshots
It's the same for Mac/Linux but the path will be different

Alright guys, need some mod suggestions. I want to do a playthrough that focuses on spelunking. Combat, mining, gems...and only growing foods that directly help in my character's quest to conquer the depths.
My issue is this: what's the endgame goal?

Exterior recolors should be compatible as far as I know - flash took out the custom landscape tiles and stuff a long while back to be more compatible. In the other direction, interior recolors will have clashing in some spots as there are additional vanilla colored interior tiles (not sure how many locations this affects). It's easily patchable but none exist for any recolor and probably won't
(I say easily patchable and it is on the mod side if you just want to do one for personal use, but it's a pain in the ass to recolor a lot of stuff to match for even one recolor, let alone all your favorites if you can't decide)
I'd just try them out and hope for the best, and if you run into problems that are SVE related don't take it up with the recolor author

I'm pretty sure if you wanted it for personal use either is fine, but if you plan on releasing it then doing it in your own mods folder would be what you'd go for ^-^

Well, I'm not 100% sure, I think you'd have to look into the NPC Map Locations files and see if doing in your mods content file, EditData and Targeting the file in the mod you want to edit would work IF you're doing it in your own mods folder

I tried to load a save file with a mod that changed the map and i absolutely broke the game
only reason i downloaded the animated furniture and stuff mod .. was cause i like the singing stone animation... there are three objects in this mod that don't wanna work ... one of them just happens to be the singing stone 😠
i thought starblue was conflicting like it did with animated gems .. but nope ... i pulled it and the objects still done work ... so now i get the task of pulling all out and adding them all back till i find the culprit...

@naive drum So far as I know, only my mods allow multi-key bindings. The code for it is still experimental, but if it works well in my mods it might be added to SMAPI in a future version.

Okay, so the first thing to fix is the duplicate mods. You have a lot of errors like this under skipped mods:
- Even More Recipes for JsonAssets 1.5.8 because you have multiple copies of this mod installed. Found in folders: Mods\[PPJA] Even More Recipes\[JA] Even More Recipes (1.5.8), Mods\[PPJA] Mega Pack\[PPJA] Even More Recipes\[JA] Even More Recipes (1.5.8).
That means you have two copies of the mod. The error lists which folders they're in:
Mods\[PPJA] Even More Recipes\[JA] Even More Recipes(1.5.8);Mods\[PPJA] Mega Pack\[PPJA] Even More Recipes\[JA] Even More Recipes(1.5.8).
So you can delete one of the folders to fix it (usually the older version, though they're both 1.5.8 in this case).
It looks like you installed both the PPJA mega pack, and the mods it contains separately. So you can just delete all the individual mods that are in the mega pack.

For Custom Furniture, do I need to put any CF packs inside the Custom Furniture mod folder? I tried reading the mod page on nexus but wasn't sure.
I think it depends how old the content pack is. Content packs that have a manifest.json file can go directly in Mods though (that file describes the mod for SMAPI).

My other kind of silly question is:
Does SMAPI have a limit to how many folders deep it will look in the Mods folder for files?
SMAPI itself doesn't. There are three limits which apply:
- SMAPI won't look inside a folder whose name starts with a period (which is used to hide folders from SMAPI).
- SMAPI won't look deeper if the current folder contains any non-content files (e.g. it won't load a mod subfolder that's inside another mod folder).
- Windows APIs have a hardcoded path length limit of 255 characters or so.
So as long as the deepest file has a full path less than 255 characters, it should be fine.
I do know the period trick- I use it periodically when shuffling outdated mods elsewhere while I bring in the updated ones.

The pile of errors at the bottom is due to the game running out of memory. That may be due to a mod doing something inefficient, though around 540 mods is about the point where that can start happening with normal mods.

Is there a mod that scales up portraits without ruining the quality? Not sure what else to call it. There's a portrait mod I really like, but the author made the png files small in size. The game blows them up larger and they end up looking really pixelated and a little blurry. Or is this a UI size issue?

Well, went through all my new mods and it wasn't any of them.
On a whim I put a . in front of Starbrew and Fruits and Veggies [two of the mods I needed to update], and those error messages went away. I have other ones now that I assume are from Artisan Valley*.

When BFAV loads the content packs, before loading a save.
BFAV does 2 loading passes, one during day stary and one during game start, and game start one is filled with that
Not a bug, just bfav's first loading pass coming before JA has finished loading in otems

The second loading pass sets the item IDs to whatever the item has for that specific save, as ja internal number ids can vary on a per save basis

So I downloaded a npc mod, and she started fucking with my game so i removed her. but i forgot to divorce her before i did. so i tried divorcing even though she wasnt there. and it crashed my game, so i put her back and she loaded up as my wife like normal but she doesnt spawn anywhere . shes in my menu but shes no where to be found and everytime i go to bed now my game crashes

Looks interesting. But I am not a "modder" if by which they mean I create my own mods. I just use existing ones. Also looks like it's only for pc, which I haven't played as much as I do the Android version. I'll keep it in mind though!

Yes (it only goes to 48) and kinda (maxInventorySpace is const, but it does change MaxItems)
You can use reflection to set the value of a const field. That won't update any code that used it directly (since it'll be inlined), but any mod which uses reflection to get it will see the new value.

Basically const is just syntactic sugar for a static field that the compiler knows can be inlined.

That's fine. SVE won't load correctly, but you should still be able to load your save (just don't save to avoid losing data).
it says it commpley skippes Sve becose the mod is not installed

OK I'm hoping someone can help me with a bit of a problem I'm having with NPC Map Locations and Stardew Valley Expanded.
The mod (NML) has a guide for using the two together but it says to find something like

"Enabled": "true"
In the content.json and change enabled to false. Trouble is there's nothing like that in SVE content.json. Closest I could find is
"Action": "EditImage"
"Target": "LooseSprites/map"
"FromFile": "Assets/Maps/{{Season}}_map.png"
"Patchmode": "Replace"
I assume this is because SVE has seasonal maps. The guide mentions if Enabled isn't there you can add it in and set it to false. But doing that just cause SMAPI to have an error. I believe it said it couldn't convert the value for "Enabled". Not sure what to do at this point. Any ideas?

@split patrol I don't think so. As far as I can tell, if any old items are submitted they'll still count and you won't need all the new items.
(But you can always make a copy of your save and then just try it out, so you can revert back if needed)

Can someone help me out, getting an error with spacecore, when it starts up a new day multiplayer, and the modded npc's from stardew expanded werent appearing on my screen in flower dance event, but on my friends screen they were appearing

It's possible that the github version doesn't have the dll file but I know that the nexus one has it. You can download the mod from nexus and copy the dll file

For me it says the dll doesnt exist and the manifest.json too
but yeah i downloaded it/a similar one from a different site and it worked though i haven't played SDV in a few weeks to be sure got animal crossing on my switch lol

the manifest is just a file that has the information on the mod like author, description, and nexus key, but it's what SMAPI uses to recognize the folder as a mod
