A&S, if present, needs to have the same number of skins for each type of animal with the same numbering but it's OK if the actual textures differ, it's just that if one game sets skin 50 on a brown chicken all games need there to be a skin 50 for brown chickens or they'll crash

Wondering if someone could provide me some guidance. Trying to use SVE on Android and I am using Maryrs SMAPI. It works fine for all mods so far but when loading some of the pre-req mods for SVE, it says requires SMAPI 3.4 for these mods to work. Is there an update to Martyrs SMAPI that I am not seeing? Also tried Zane's but that one crashes everytime with the SVE mods.

Has anyone had any luck getting deluxe autograbber to work right recently? It will sometimes pick up crops, sometimes not. Sometimes will work in machine groups with automate.. Sometimes not. Global grabber throws a "global grabber full" error every day, and I can't interact with the grabbers at all after that.

Is there a recommended completion amount/timeframe for playing with SVE? I just started really getting into the game but I don't wanna spoil the vanilla experience for a while. Problem is, this game can't be "beat", so I can't use that as my metric for when to start using mods lol
@marble sparrow You're not the only one with that SVO issue. The author is aware of it and will fix it with the next update
@dire fractal i’m in the same boat, doing a vanilla run first before modding it to the gills for future runs.. i sort of just said to myself i’ll start fresh with mods when i’m satisfied with my farm and things start to get repetitive (major story quests are done or mostly done, villagers at max hearts, etc). not sure how long that’d be but ymmv i suppose, i gave myself a loose estimate of ~5 in game years w vanilla and then start playing with mods

SVE adds in a lot of features, yes. But I highly recommend you fulfill the vanilla experience before downloading it

my mileage there as of right now is “until i get bored of it” which is a dangerous game because bold of me to assume i’ll get bored of playing stardew valley
I may just do the same thing and go by character and skill completion + when things start to feel repetitive
i think fulfilling the vanilla game is also just good because once you’ve seen most canon game aspects, mechanics, and dialogue, it’s easier to appreciate all the stuff that the mods add
no shade on people who play with mods from the start it’s just not my style
but keep in mind there are some mods that are incompatible with SVE due to the fact that SVE adds/changes so much
yeah! my plan personally was to do a vanilla run, a run with my chosen various mods, and a run with SVE
combining SVE with any mod that isn’t strictly a game mechanic mod seems like tricky business lol
adding new crops and machines and animals to an SVE-including loadout is safe

SVE seems like an unofficial expansion pack to me, so I'm likely to only use that forever once I'm satisfied with vanilla

i had narrowed it down; seems like it was the Better Rarecrows mod, for some reason :0 once i removed it and added in all of my other mods, it patched in fine!

The Raphtalia mod was like that, so I just copied the image and renamed it and it worked
The farm map format changed in 1.2; maps needed to be updated to work in 1.2 up
And if it's an XNB replacer then you'll probably get severe errors, instead of SMAPI just going "this map is in the wrong format, it's not going to be loaded"

Question on using modded machines.
I have artisan valley installed, but I don't like that it has so many machines available on day one. I want to be able to unlock or buy them gradually.
I know I can just edit the mod files myself, but I don't want to change the original mod files. Can I make a new mod file in a different folder that will change the modded machines? I've been trying all day and nothing has worked.

So I could just change that file to get the behavior I want, but I don't want to overwrite other people's mod files.

I got the alembic recipe to appear in Robin's shop, but it didn't appear in my crafting menu after I purchased it. My smapi log showed errors about trying to add the alembic a second time.

it zoomed in my game, and 75% isn't the same zoom as before
i only installed a fishing mod
I always get stuck at the winter star festival, it won't let me out of the exits. Is there a SMAPI debug command I can use to end the festival?
@dire fractal you can use debug warp or can cheats to try to get back to your farm
@weak fjord you can change the resolution and zoom level in the menu settings
warping to the farm, sleeping, and then reloading my game seemed to work

It involves Tiled, so you may want to ask someone proficent in that.

probably depends heavily on the mods, how much of the base game you have seen, and how bored or annoyed you are with it
I don't think so. But if you want to try a vanilla experience with mods, stick to Content Patcher mods.
Say that you havent played the gane, but didn't like the base gane look, then you would get mods that changed only the textures, and not the game mechanics themselves (most likely cp packs)
I downloaded SMAPI fine, then extracted all of SVE's prerequisite files into the /mod folder for Steam, then extracted SVE there, but SMAPI will not load any of them...? It claims they can't be loaded. I have no idea why. Does anyone have any experience with this? Would it be easier to use something like ModDrop? idk

So for the multiple copies, I think that's because I didn't overwrite copies when it asked me to.

Yeah, I have most of those.
Stardew Valley Expanded has a list of prerequisites on Nexus
Missing Json Assets (wasn't listed) and SpaceCore (idk what that is).
But I'll download those now.
Most of those are major framework mods; you need them all except Winter Grass which can be replaced with More Grass with the winter grass config option turned on.
SpaceCore is a essential mod for JSON assets
and a lot of other mods

just only keep the unzipped mods in the subfolders
but note that smapi does have a maximum filepath length, so don't nest them fifty folders deep
I had a .rar file in a sub folder and the whole folder didn't load
and that, yeah, don't put random other .jsons or whatever in there because smapi will stop looking deeper for manifests when it finds the first non-png, non-readme file
So only put in the folders what comes with the extraction and nothing extra

I don't SEE any other copies in the mod folder though. I deleted ALL mods from there and then re-extracted the files and there's only one of each.

I feel like I kind of understand the problem but not really how to fix it. It's saying that the same files exist in both the Custom NPC folder and the SVE folder, which means one needs to be overwritten with the other instead of existing twice. But it won't prompt me to do that now? And it seems like another failure is based on that failure.

There is an SVE NPC Map Locations and a non-SVE NPC Map Locations, you can only have one, you had installed both so neither worked
Hey, does someone have experience with automate? I installed it on android but the ui doesn't work with either versions. Android version and normal version. I also edited the keys in virtual keyboard so I have the U button. And I used pre existing keys but nothing worked.

That mod needs Content Patcher.

XNB replacers are depreciated and can be assumed to be out of date or otherwise broken in the current version of Stardew Valley.

Making mods that people buy is usually regarded in poor taste.
People may post links to tip jars like ko-fi, but it is understood that the money given that way is entirely optional.
Some developers have clauses in their legal information when you install a game that say that mods are allowed, but buying mods is not.
I know that the Rimworld dev has that specifically. I haven't examined stardew valley's TOS yet.

Right now the TMXL pack for it is optional, but I wanted to release the compatibility update today, and if I required them I could just integrate IF2's edits better instead of making them on/off or manually patching where needed.
Oh, of course, if you're using any of the mods I need to make compatibility patches for, you would need PyTK, so I can just make it not required but invisibly functioning if installed 😄

@compact forum yeah, i don't mind one bit! so i had both Better Rarecrows and Gwen's Medieval Buildings installed. for some reason, every building except the exterior farmhouse was patching in, and patch summary in the console showed nothing - weird, right? so i went thru my mods all individually until i figured out Better Rarecrows was somehow the issue (removed the mod, added it back in, removed it again to be 100% sure it was the one causing the conflict) and i was suprised it was that one actually, would've been one of my last guesses lol

The jargon confuses me.
So, it does a few things. The main one is that instead of only getting to have one pet like in vanilla you can also adopt stray cats and dogs from marnie's ranch
there's also wild horses. which are horses that spawn around the valley and you approach and uh, appropiate. so you get to have more horses!
this basically lets you use a bunch of diffrerent pet and horse retextures at once! but uhh sorry

The IF2 error was just a can't be loaded - the original hasn't worked since 1.3.36. You're using IF2R though, and that's loaded fine?
The one that couldn't be loaded was the original, but you're using SVE's version.
Okay, lemme read and walk you through it. Skins are the actual .png of the animals (the elle dog ones you linked, for example)

@urban briar First check if the one you want already has an unofficial update https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Using_XNB_mods#Alternatives_using_Content_Patcher. Depending on how out of date it is, you might have to do some image editing, but if you look at any of these unofficial updates you can probably see what you need to do, or just edit the jsons and swap out the pngs they use for yours :) You can also search DIYCP on the Nexus for some template packs. I have some also, just made a little differently.

😅 Ria I just did an oopsie. I extracted the stuff in the SDV folder instead of the mods folder on accident. Did I just mess up that folder? I got too eager and hit extract a folder too early.

The source for it is available at least, so it's possible someone might update it unofficially at some point. (Though it doesn't have a license.) It had some crashing issues with town replacements and/or multiplayer though, and unofficial updates are usually only to get it running with latest versions and not bug fixing/feature adding. @thick lantern It might be better to start from scratch.

That looks right to me, based on the small space shown - have you wandered around? I think if you went further down (try typing world_clear farm debris in the SMAPI console just so you can get around easier) you'd see the differences in layout.
Down and to the right should show the under-cliff space combat farm has, down and to the left the bigger pond and then the partly offscreen lake

Without the mod multiplayer works fine... so maybe they might actually have to get it? It’s both CJB Cheats Menu and an item spawned made by the same creator.

@dire fractal Not sure from the above discussion if you already tried it, but does that happen if you play with SMAPI but remove CJB Cheats Menu temporarily? SMAPI can cause disconnects if it's not set up correctly, but CJB Cheats Menu shouldn't have any effect on it that I know of.
Nope! Only seems to happen when I have CJB Cheats Menu... SMAPI runs fine by itself on my computer. Everything works just fine in singleplayer but only causes issues in multiplayer. This may be an issue with SMAPI but I’m not sure how to tell if it is. Not that technologically aware. @tired brook

(Some mods can cause issues if the other players don't have them, but CJB Cheats Menu and SMAPI itself shouldn't.)

Your SMAPI log will tell you if there's a new version of SMAPI available, too! When you first start the game the update checks will run in the SMAPI console that's always open behind the game.

do you think my issue has to do with stardew being from amazon and smapi being from play store? the files end up in the same place loading up mod wise but no clue is smapi is not able to call stardew right due to it being from amazon
Oh hm, are you even on the same version? I know at one point Martyr had to get some custom build going for someone that was playing on a Fire.
the version numbers line up for the zane smapi but not the martyr, it's all fresh install due to it being new phone
but this is the same behavior my old phone had, i just figured it was because it was old
zane smapi regonizes mods in the mod folder so they are pointing to same place
what makes me think it's doing this is because the version is 1.4.5.144amazon, instead of the playstore just listing the version as 1.4.5.145
zane just requires 1.4.5.138+ so both versions should work, installs fine, just hangs when opening

And my Pam sprite/portrait replacer isn't even showing up in the log at all.
vortex is not reccomended for stardew valley because of its tendency to do stuff like that

@ionic swallow I use it and get no lags whatsoever.
But there might be a bug in a mod where you have to edit the config what might cause lag if you don't edit it.

I do also know that some of the maps are incredibly large, right at Stardew Valley's current map size limit, and this can cause issues on some devices

Could somebody help me with Stardew Valley Extended and me either being a complete dumbass or there is a massive problem as I have cleared all the objects using the tool and I still cannot see the adventurers guild?

@dire fractal I downloaded it last night. It gives more regular beach forage plus crabs to kill(only 10hp) unless you change/add things in the config file
And I have walked past this so many times without noticing the cabin
Is there a way to make one of the "pond bridge" mods actually work?
