so changing the screen mode doesnt do anything? like if you were to play in fullscreen it wouldnt work?
I opened in windowed, turned on fullscreen, then opened in fullscreen but it didn’t seem to have changed anything.

It’s like smapi isn’t recognizing it even though steam and other games do. Very weird.
have you checked your settings on your modded save to make sure nothing has been turned off? gamepad mode is set to "on" instead of autodetect, etc etc

You need to download smapi, it creates a Mods folder for you and then you can download content patcher and place it there.

Hmm, ok. I would include backing up any saves you want to keep and cleaning Stardew out of %appdata%, as well as disabling steam cloud before the reinstall. Essentially trying to remove every trace possible, but if you've already uninstalled and reinstalled, it may well not do anything

I think I messed up quite a bit. Realized I forgot to dress up before the wedding, so I was stuck in farming clothes. Shut down the laptop, hoping it would salvage it, now the game can't find that save at all.

Yeah - looks like something's up in the save file now, but good news is that the game stores the previous day's save

And SMAPI rolls backups too if you didn't remove the backup mod that comes included

Go to %appdata% (in file explorer), which should redirect to Appdata/Roaming
I'm there
Go to Stardew Valley / Saves / and find the folder with your farmer's name (It might be the farm name, my saves are all dev files)
You'll want to make a copy first and store it somewhere else just in case something goes wrong (Better to be able to fall back to the copy if mistakes are made)
Then, inside of the folder, you'd want to delete SaveGameInfo and Whichever file has your name_ID
Then rename the versions in there that end in _old by removing the _old so they have the file names of the previous files

If that doesn't work, we'll go dig into SMAPI's backup saves, assuming the mod is still installed
There's a specific mod for save backups that comes with SMAPI (ConsoleCommands and SaveBackup), but some folks accidentally delete them when they're setting up mods and you lose out on the backups if that happens
Glad I could help. I'd say keep the backup copy of the folder you saved for a bit just in case there's something else wrong, but hopefully it was a one off.

It should be installed by default, just make sure it's there. If not, you'll need to reinstall SMAPI so that it re-adds the mod.
Ok good - If you have an issue that takes more then a day to show up, there's a folder in the Stardew Valley folder labeled save-backups, which contains the backups that SMAPI makes.
But hopefully it works and the wedding goes properly next time

To anyone that's been following my connection issues; we've switched out our farm design so we don't have as much space (because at this point, I suspect that there's just too much going on in the game for multiplayer). Today, I will be seeing if her character can join my game. It's either there's too much going on for data sending, or days are too long because the game is paused but that doesn't make sense to me
in the future, you can alt+f4 to close the game, which is probably less likely to cause this issue than putting your machine through an unexpected shutdown
I admit I'm a cheaty mccheaterpants and smash that alt+f4 if I pass out in skull cavern

Hello, is there any info on how do I know if my laptop will be strong enough to handle the load of SDVE?
I run SMAPI Windows installer but the cmd screen instantly closes. When I run it as admin it says "cannot find specified path". Any solutions?
The best way to see would be to test it. I'd start a new save with SVE and see if it loads in, if it loads in and you don't face lag I'd go into the SVE config settings and turn off fog for better performance aswell

Lag here and there will happen with any heavily modded saves. I used to play modded stardew on a potato laptop with only 8GB Ram and SVE loaded (on a 500 modded save)
There's going to be some hits regardless, just from loading extra stuff, you'll want to decide whether you're getting too much stuttering for your taste
But given that Stardew is fairly slow paced, it's not a huge issue most of the time (Though loading a save, starting the new day (especially into a new season) and end of day stuff can be a little slower because that's where a lot of mods do their major handling)

Ohh I seee, yeahh mine was going smooth til 5 Spring Y1 then at the 6th I encounter my first very short lag and then now I'm on summer 4th, the lag gets more often huhu

Oof yeah - if you're getting lag hits that frequent you're probably pushing upper limits already (or there's a mod that's poorly configured) - Low end cards and lower amounts of RAM might end up with a lot of swaps though, which would definitely hit performance. Not sure there's much you can do except keep your mod list as lean as possible and keep as much stuff closed as possible on the computer (I'm starting to suffer that myself, my computer is like 8-10 years old now)

Error Handler is a mod that comes with old versions of smapi iirc, have you updated smapi to the newest version?
Okay so, i installed smapi, but the mod console doesnt work.. do i need to like /enable mods/cheats? or sum? or is there another mod pack i need to cheat in items, im a little lost
for an easier time cheating in items, you should probably install CJB Item Spawner (and CJB Cheats Menu if you want other cheats besides items)
most (all?) of what they can do is doable via the SMAPI console but it's less user-friendly

the catalogue function wasn't a thing back then, this is probably a replacer mod that changes furniture from the vanilla catalogue

it looks like your config.json for Dynamic Reflections is malformed, so Dynamic Reflections is crashing out of its setup trying to load it. as a result, it's probably not initialized correctly, so it is crashing when trying to draw stuff

SDV 1.6.4 broke SMAPI up to (i believe) 4.0.3 and 4.0.4+ is required starting from then
you probably don't need to update your other mods in the same way, but they likely have bug fixes

verifying on Linux or Mac both can lead to smapi not being recognised anymore due to how it's applied on those systems
you won't need to delete anything! just run the installer as usual
even if you wanted to deinstall smapi, running the installer is the right thing to do as it is also a deinstaller :D

hm just as I thought - this is the same log as before, so for some reason smapi isn't touching the game right now 
if it was actually running, it would show a new log no matter if you save or not
something didn't go fully right while fashion sense was loading. I suggest updating mods before further troubleshooting
I personally might not be around later anymore (time zones :D) but you can always ask for more help again later for sure if you don't have time right now

i went into my properties for stardew on steam from my deck and my launch option is blank
i used to have it filled in to launch specifically from smapi bc i think i had to do it the manual way before ;-;
because i remember having to a lot of stuff in my konsole window and then having to copy that end location into my launch option which was super frustrating
restoring the options as they were before could help then
if it doesn't work there's more to check but it might take some time
ill have to do that long konsole process later sad that took me forever last time
we might find an easier way

Move all your mods to a quarantine folder. Load in and see if the bar is there
If not, add back in half the mods in your quarantine folder. Load again, see if the bar is there

then extra machine configs probably doesn't work with your version of smapi because it's too new
smapi doesn't uninstall by deleting, it needs to be uninstalled. run the smapi installer and when it asks, you choose the uninstall option

The default toggle is U or ctrl U, I can’t remember which. If you have GMCM you can change the hotkey, but it’s not a bug.

is there any reason you're doing proton? it's way more complicated
the game has a linux port that's very well supported though
stardew valley has a native Linux version and it's much easier to install smapi for that
and you can mod on it just fine (I have mods on my Steam Deck)

They arent needed for 1.6 anymore :p
IF a mod you use still relies on Shop Tile Framework, ther's a 1.6 alpha biild for it on the page under the optional files or such.
SAAT also has a 1.6 alpha if a mod hasnt been updated and STILL relies on it.
TMXL is very much not needed since it's now built in game so it wouldnt really make a difference anymore

the error hints at something being wrong with the UI, I've seen that happen mostly mods that changed something about the menus. might be that the mod that adds those coins or whatever that is behind the answers, isn't playing nice

These coins are what happens to $ symbols. They’re also used to determine which portrait NPCs use for specific dialogue. $1 results in a happy expression, $2 is sad iirc. It almost looks like these answers you can give are supposed to be the following lines of dialogue…

Hey is there a way to determine SMAPI's load order?
I'm playing with a mod that's supposed to change the wizard's dialogue and appearance, and the dialogue change is working but the appearance change is not, and I'm wondering if it's because another mod is changing the wizard's appearance and overriding it. I've disabled the Wizard in the Slightly Cuter Aesthetics mod but I can't think of any other mod I'd have that would change his sprite & portrait.
Here's the sprite and portrait I'm getting if anyone recognizes this appearance from something so I can disable it(I don't think this is his vanilla look but I genuinely can't remember what he looks like)

stardew valley expanded and romanceable rasmodia modify the wizard portraits, in that order
and if I want to show Romanceable Rasmodia's portrait for the wizard and not SVE's, how would I do that?
technically romanceable rasmodia should show up as that's what's applied after SVE, but that's clearly not yet happening. could you look into the settings of sve and, if available, romanceable rasmodia?
I'll get the mod myself and look at it in a couple minutes, I've been wanting to have her in my game as well
SVE has no settings mentioning the wizard.

Overwriting it would be easy, but there's a lot of portrait replacers for SCA with seasonal Rasmodia, so that wouldn't work...

I need help with installing a mod, specifically the DCburgers high res portrait mod. I have been struggling with dowloading it for quite a while. I have dowlaoded all the requirements such as SMAPI, content patcher and pyTK but the mod still does not work for me, it also causes the vibrant pastoral mod which I have also downloaded to glitch. Idk if I have made a mistake or something, if i did let me know thx!
remove PyTK, it is not needed and actually does nothing in 1.6, what you need is Portraiture
VPR surely does not glitch because of PyTK, it's just not updated for 1.6 (as is DCBurger's btw)
you need either Vibrant Pastoral Recolor Temporary fix for 1.6 or Redraw Pelican Town or both
are you using the most recent version? i did have a version where the content.json file was goofed up for the well causing it to not display properly but i believe it should be updated on nexus now and not have that problem

yea the portraits doesnt load and also the vibrant patoral mod glitches in certain parts of the map. Ive tried installing the portraits mod then adding the whole dcburger folder into the portraits folder but that didnt do anything when i loaded up the game and used p to like select the mod

1.6 added new tiles which will take some time for recolor mods to catch up on. recolors will mostly work but there will be some vanilla-looking tiles. please be patient as you wait for mod authors to update their mods
vibrant pastoral has an unofficial 1.6 update, but it wont catch everything
that has nothing to do with portraiture, its just how recolors work with 1.6 currently

Is there specific mods that are incompatible to virtual keyboard mod on Android? Cause it keeps on crashing for me.
Android SMAPI does not currently work for versions of SDV past 1.5.6.39. We do not know if or when it will be made compatible. It is not possible to downgrade to .39 through legal means so do not ask how to do this.
Mod support for 1.5 on Android is still experimental, so many mods are broken or buggy. That's often something SMAPI needs to fix, and we may not be able to provide a solution.

Is there a mod that changes the monster eradication goals? Normally you have to slay a 1000 slimes but for me its 750. Ik there is a mod to make these goals easier but i havent downloaded that mod. iirc (i used portraiture once like a year ago lmao) you can edit it in the config file manually? you just need to add some lines after you've fixed/locked one portrait as an example. that might be faster than running around trying to find people

There's some weirdness with how Portraiture looks for which portrait to use
_Joja might not be a standard suffix it looks for (or however the file is named)
If you're running PortraiturePlus, you might be able to get away with the location tag in the filename, but it's probably something like _jojamart (Don't know for sure)
I know I had to create a private patch for Portraiture for cutscenes because it ignored the /changeportrait for events, so I've dug into things a bit

both these portrait packs follow that naming convention as well
If it includes a base Claire.png, it'll default to that unless a specific override is called like _beach

UI Info Suite 2 users here? I just installed it, it works great. But when I disable the xp elements, they still show up
my portraits folder is a gross amalgamation of whatever artist i found nice at the time so its literally just named portraits1
i didnt like some of talks and fishkings portraits so whichever ones i didnt like with fish i replaced with talk and whatever i didnt like with talk i replaced with fish (sounds complicated but.)

the point of portraiture was being able to use multiple portrait mods at once, so when you switch with p it just changes the one youre using and Stops looking at the others basically unless you force it to by manually configuring characters

There's not much I can do for you if you can't launch smapi. If you installed it correctly, the executable should be in your stardew folder alongside the vanilla executable

um idk i just opened the smapi thing again and copied whatever it said about steam after i pressed install it again and pasted it in my files and it opened stardew and the little gear was there

the portait i have of her is so cute..
in smapi after i pressed install it gave this "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Stardew Valley\StardewModdingAPI.exe" and i pasted it in the top bar of my files app and it opened stardew
Ok, what that is is the location of the smapi executable. Sounds like putting that into your file explorer opened it automatically. If you cut off the last bit, the StardewModdingAPI.exe, you should be able to go to just your stardew folder and find the executable manually, from there you can pin it to your dashboard or somewhere so you can find it again
If you want to actually change your launch options in steam, which is what I thought you somehow did, you can follow the instructions here under "configure your game client", and that will let you launch smapi through steam
That's the one. If you right click it should give you the option to create a shortcut or pin it somewhere so you can find it easier

Were you perhaps not playing in fullscreen before? It gets cut off if you size the window down a certain amount

SORRY THIS IS TAKING SO LONG DSJKHDSJK steam decided it did not want to load my game and the sve code is ???? to mess with
the thing is for every other vendor sve labels as vanilla, they either already have a portrait off rip (i.e. krobus, gus) or sve gives them a status as an entirely new npc, like in the case of morris
they count the traveling cart lady as an antisocial npc and put her portrait code there, but they put other vendors portrait codes in with their shops, so im trying to see if moving it will work is basically the tldr

If sve is proving difficult to work with, I believe They Deserve It Too also add portraits for vendors that don't have them, you could see how that one does it?
i was also planning on trying that but my thing with that is i dont know how its going to play with sve since sve Does already add a portrait for her
You could also try asking in the sve server, you may even get an answer from flash if you ask there
i am also going to try that KJSHSDJK im curious because she seems to be the only vendor that has this issue
they deserve it too does not work for her unfortunately so im gonna hop in the sve discord and maybe try and see whats up

alright i've asked in the SVE server, hopefully someone has an answer because im totally at a loss here DJHSK
i searched in server and pretty much only found that a lot of people have that issue with her portrait, so maybe its an issue with how portraiture interacts with her portrait specifically? i know people can use content patcher portraits with her fine but portraiture seems to break her
hmm.. i guess my only thought was replacing the portrait pictures with the modded ones
unfortunately that will not work DSKHDJS best case scenario it loads and looks funky and worst case smapi starts throwing you a bunch of errors about how the portrait youre trying to load extends too far out of the boundaries of where portraits should go
