I'm doing some frankenspriting and I have a question: I used grayscale on an image using aseprite because I was trying to quickly recolor some brown stones to grey, and I'm trying to then add some color to a couple leaves that were on some rocks.
I am trying to copy-paste the colored leaves onto the grayscaled image using GIMP because I needed a free select and couldn't find said option on aseprite. However, the leaves get grayscaled as well. Is there a way to copy-paste something to a grayscaled image and have it be colored? o.o

Animations look much better when you do "weird" stuff, like here I made the gun breech and even the entire turret recoil as well; not just the barrel.
When the barrel slides forward into a ready position at the end, it actually overshoots very slightly in the second-to-last frame before settling back to "zero" position.

@lyric jewel The best way Iβve found to start is to find portraits on pinterest and start copying them, as well as keeping in mind face proportions (its good to have a face proportion sheet next to you when you copy a portrait so that you can correct areas) but honestly the best thing to do is to just go for it.
something like this is usually good to have, i have one that i used in art class, but i cant seem to find it (even so, itβs a lil messy so i dont think youβd be able to decipher it)

i think these are important steps when you're starting out/aren't familiar with proper anatomy
and then your arm/hand get the muscle memory down path so that way when you do advance in skill, you can go straight to gesture drawing

Late but I've had paid programs before (specifically photoshop, sai, clip studio) and have tried free (artrage, sumopaint, gimp, krita)
I like firealpaca the most and feel it's better than most paid programs (looking at you, sai)
I can understand why some people would not want to use it, and I can understand depending on your art style why you wouldn't
I also have yet to try medibang since the updates they've given it and have some friends who swear by it, so I might give that a go eventually
Same with aseprite
But if you're honestly broke and are willing to go through a learning curve, I'd recommend firealpaca
Though props on getting krita to work in the first place--it'd lag my entire pc to the point of crashing

FireAlpaca is also what I recommend if u don't wanna use a paid program, imo it's like Sai Lite but i have Sai now so I use it instead

i used sai for around 3 or 4 years after having taken a class on photoshop and having used it for all of my high school career
sai was handy but i couldn't get over 1. no transparency 2. no crop and 3. no text
thankfully i think sai 2 (or rather, an updated version of sai) gave it all three of those features so it's probably much easier to use now

Krita is great and has a ton of neat brushes but seems to have some optimization issues. When I use CSP there's a marked difference in the smoothness.
