A little late here but @tranquil comet honestly messing around is kind of the best way to find a style. personally I think it's best to just not worry about finding a style,and just let it come naturally as you learn also this probably kind of contradicts the last sentence but I think sort of like handwriting everyone has their own unique way of drawing from the start that just grows and changes over time but is always there :]

@blissful sonnet I think the problem with using shapes to define the body, is that you need to know proportions and poses anyway before using the method. I used to think it was some sort of cool trick I could use to instantly get better at art, but nothing i drew was any easier when i tried.
It's fine to use shapes to assist in drawing, i quite often use a bunch of trapeziums when drawing torsos, but I think you're struggling because you might be not referencing the pose you've chosen etc. There comes a point where drawing from your head isn't enough. Characters drawn with this method sometimes look stiff, uninformed or disproportionate, but it's easily fixed.

I recommend watching a couple videos on how to draw human bodies, and following along with what they draw in the tutorial. That at least helped me get a better grasp! Then you'll hopefully not need to rely on the shape method entirely and be able to conduct it more wisely. ALSO! Don't forget to flip your drawing like crazy! Flipping it to see the errors you couldn't see before helps so much omg

@halcyon bronze So I've been looking through YouTube and came across some helpful videos with anatomy and how to draw bodies. I tried it out on a really old sketchbook and found that it could be quite fun to experiment with shapes and body poses. I focused on digital art for so long I’m coming back to traditional art now while I wait for this iPad (since I got a refund on my fancy graphics tablet) and having to relearn stuff lmao, but it’s better for me to practice more on paper because it’s more similar to the tablet then my other one, (heck yes paper screen protector and Apple Pencil) the Apple Pencil, especially 2nd gen pencil, is SO much better then my Huion pen, like holy COW

Kneaded erasers basically are like a blob of eraser, you can use your hands and knead them into any shape you want, wether that be to more comfortably fit your handshape, or to get a somewhat pointed or more narrow end to erase stuff. Normal erasers are, well, normal and can’t do that. I personally, personally recommend against getting a kneaded eraser unless you are willing to spend a little bit on getting a good one, since the cheaper ones just go bleheeh
