just to leave a disclaimer here, it's alright to post edited works or screenshots and the like as long as you state or leave a source. in the case of witcher screenshots, in the future it's just good to let people know so they do not take it as drawn art. there is nothing wrong with complimenting edited works because they are still art, but we do not want anyone to trick anyone else at the core :)
similarly to traced works, it's okay to post traced works as long as you give a source, since tracing can be good practice and you can be proud of what you've done and the changes you've made. but it is good to pay respects to the original work and to make sure people can find it
you do not have to like or accept this policy however it is the one we use in this server, so we trust people to give sources when they can, and trust others to be respectful even if they do not agree with its artistic value

Hello I use paint tool sai 2 although it's use isn't just specifically for pixel art! It's not as heavy and doesn't have as much features as Photoshop but it gets the job done
When you do your pixel art it's handy to have references of the official pixel art in hand all the time so you can constantly compare the one you're trying to make in that style
You can also color pick / use the eyedropper to be accurate in the colors although you won't be able to color pick all the time because there are things you'll have to make a decision on

yeah on the supportive bit, my first ever fanfic is a stardew valley one and i was really surprised people were interested in it at all. not because i didn't have faith in my writing, but i think it's really hard to sell "oc x canon" in other fandoms
i'm still writing my fanfic though not as fast as i used to, though it's inspired me a lot to get more involved in the community
i'm really interested in other people's farmers too, and it's really softened my perspective about other fandoms and how sometimes we just have ocs for fun :)
i grew up on neopets and i was a big, big, big sonic the hedgehog fan. there was a lot of stigma against shipping your ocs with canon characters, but as a kid it's like, of course i love sonic why can't my character date him HMPH
so now i'm like, you know, maybe it's a little silly that your oc is with a canon character but it's also very cute and it's just for fun, and i like that stardew valley is one of those games that embraces that

I feel like that's just a general thing that our generation is starting to get rid of, everything that was 'weird', where a mother would tell her child "stop doing that, its immature" or "that's unnatural", i feel that all of that is starting to go away, we are lucky to have such a great fandom and just a great gaming community filled with such wonderful people that have had those types of negative people in their lives, and when they were finally able to push past them, they found who they really were. Ok i know i went in way to deep there, but often times even in the bitterest gamer, theirs something that's holding them down too, they just need to break past it!

@eternal eagle yeah i always hear about huion for being good starting tablets. i haven't had those, i've had wacom and they're a little pricier but their smaller tablets are still affordable and get the job done pretty well. they've also lasted me a very long time (my first tablet lasted me about 10 years and my second one is going on around 4-5 right now) though i've had issues with the cords they come with breaking. luckily they're pretty easily replaceable but i assume that would be a turn-off for people
i hope you find a tablet you really like! i would just avoid getting the really small ones, try to go for a medium size if you can imo
off topic but i wanted to make a drawing of my favorite aesthetics after seeing an artist meme floating around. so i am!! i'm really happy with her so far. i plan to add blood to the drawing so this'll be spoilered later, but for now she is safe for all eyes

Huion pretty much leads the pack in the "Wacom alternative" category. XP-PEN seems to be a decently close runner-up. Monoprice is a slightly more distant third but some people seem to be fine with both of those latter brands.

the only thing i hate about the huion tablet is that i'm left handed and i can't stand side buttons, even if you can switch them
i just think it's really dumb and clunky and i always prefer top buttons
but huion isn't the only one that does this it's just the model
but i think if that doesn't bother you you should go for it, it is definitely more my personal taste
(most tablets that have side buttons, you can just turn the tablet around and it should still work properly, or you can configure it)

i noticed something about artstyles
there are people who sort of. freehand parts of character designs and somehow magically still make them 100% recognizable as that character
and. i'm not sure if this is a separate class of people or if it's legit just me, but
there are other people who make characters recognizable by . very rigidly making every specific stroke in a character's design identical or at least very very similar every time they draw them
this is most easily seen in characters' hairstyles. bc

@tranquil comet i would say use different techniques and levels of blur, do a few tests to see which one you think looks the best. also don't be afraid to apply different techniques to different things depending on the item, something might look better for a certain shape or look better/worse depending on the movement or object uwu i took animation for 2 years before switching to illustration

on the commissions convo, how do you guys do commissions and motivate yourselves to do them/not get exhausted?
commissions is something i'd like to start doing but i am honestly bad at finishing things in a timely manner so i've only ever done comms for friends

motivating urself to draw something you wouldnt necessarily be inclined to do normallly is really hard
tbh ive still not figured out a surefire work ethic to get me thru it in a timely manner. thats part of the reason i havent opened in so long
one thing i can suggest is to limit what you are willing to do. and if someone asks you for a commission and once you get the description and you think its something you wont be motivated/might be overwhelmed by, then just decline
but one of the hardest parts for me is even getting commissions in the first place
i dont really have any good places to advertise
and i have 4k tumblr followers but aside from a handful of mutuals who have been with me no matter what, ive changed fandoms several times so a lot of those people don't interact with me anymore... its frustrating
most of the time i cant even bring myself to do art unless i'm feeling good that day which is rare for me. or if i feel encouraged by positive feedback like the sdv stuff ive been drawing and posting here
nothings worse than spending a lot of time on art and posting it just to get like 2 notes
but i think the most important thing is figuring out what you really enjoy drawing and then focusing on that for a while. make your commissions open only for that subject mater
pick an easier/simpler style to focus on just doing small commissions until you feel confident enough to work on bigger projects that will take more time and detail

@devout stream if you dont want to deal with the drama side by going through the perosn you know, theres probably also some way to report through pinterest to have your art taken down
though i wouldnt worry about it too much unless they are trying to claim it as their own/sell it or something

its good to take down as many steals as you can but in reality you arent going to get them all

you dont just see someones painting displayed in a gallery and decide to fucking steal it. just cause its in public doesnt make it fair game. they dont see digital media as "real" though
also the fact that its so easy to copy/paste/download/screenshot images online so you can basically have an exact copy
