@hushed ledge Got hit with a bout of inspiration and hashed out this rough idea of this character's outfit. Lots of deep royal purple and a vibrant blue, along with that suggestion of a wide-ish gold trim. I interpreted the outfit as an outer cloak and inner tunic with a cape-like extension in the back.

The green pants and brown belts and boots are more of a placeholder, and my shading process could use work.

does anyone have some resources for getting into drawing backgrounds? im tired of just drawing people on transparent or white backgrounds

hm... i don't do it much myself, but i started by drawing scenes from photographs without people. drawing streets, house interiors, etc, from reference and photos and whatnot. you probably won't be good at it at first, i know i wasn't, but i did find it a sort of decent place to start...

isometric interiors make for good practice at just... drawing furniture and things too. you can just. get an isometric room base and practice drawing furniture in it.

the latter also helps with being able to lay down colours that represent a wall and a floor and having a better idea of how to plonk furniture on top of them.

i also took a watercolour class on how to draw scenery which helped but that's less accessible. watching people paint watercolour landscapes and things on youtube can help though, you get a sense of what to put down first and how to build on it so it looks good.

... uhm, sorry if none of that is helpful. i rambled a bit... ^^;;;

Hrm. Maybe this is one of those situations where you have to combine references and think about the character in 3D space more carefully. What I would do is find a picture of someone holding the kind of gun...I assume like a rifle? You want. Then, think about the pose your character is in. She's sitting, so maybe the gun is turned on its side a bit, so that it isn't in an uncomfortable position. If it's laying flat, then find references of a rifle on its side, and then maybe it'll be easier to figure out how to draw it. Maybe practice on another page just sketching how it might look so that you don't make your final piece messy etc.
If you'd rather not tho, you can always just change the way the character is holding the gun to a way there is a reference for ;3

if it's art, are you streaming comic progress? then focus on that comic's characters
are you just a freelancer? do you have any mascots/primary ocs? then feature them

if you do facecam, you can also just have it feature yourself
it all depends on what you want the focus to be for your channel

iirc banners are less than 1000 px wide, less than 400 px tall
so so long as the original file is around 400 px or greater, should be fine
heck, even with sharpening tools nowadays, it'd be easy to clean it up even if it wasn't
though i'd talk with the original artist before doing any edits with their artwork, just to make sure you're in the clear with working with it
i know some artists retain rights to the artwork, some release them fully, so just to stay on the safe side, i'd ask

it's smooth, dynamic, and it's very clear to see that you put your own style into it

ah yeah that’s a very common artist struggle.. i almost always like my sketch better than my final product as well

your coloring is really quite nice but if you’re concerned about losing the detail of your lineart (which by the way has rad vibes, very expressive sketchy lines) you could probably attempt a more minimalistic coloring style on some of your pieces to see if that’s an approach you’d be more satisfied with? like less painterly shading and maybe more work with line to compensate

@junior mantle Wow! Those pieces are really eye-catching and your coloring is nice and detailed.
As much as I love your work, i think i have some advice that might be of some use. ^^;;

I can see that you've developed a style with sharp angles and a face structure, and although that will influence anatomy, I think practicing human anatomy will really boost your art. For example, the arm of the angel girl is so thin, it kind of threw me off, likewise the shoulders of the hissing boy are different lengths, even though the pose had one scrunched up and the angle allows for some shortening. These aren't huge things and honestly they don't ruin the art for me or most people I imagine, but I think before really pushing the style you've got going, maybe go back to basics and think about proportions, and eventually when you're confident with anatomy your style will mesh with your knowledge and you'll naturally come to a balance between stylised and accurate.

It's better, but let me just say that I could be one of the best and worst guys to ask since I happen to be designing 3D gun models for a Roblox game, so making sure that they look both unique and viable is a considerable factor for me.

(Yes Roblox is seen as a kids' platform but there's a teen/young adult presence)

There is a line going through it which confuses me to how thick the hand should be

not sure how close you want it, but the thing i immeditally notice is that this dudes hand is a bit tilted towards the camera while your character's looks more straight

with that i think the angle of the wrist is a bit too sharp and the 2 closed fingers need to be angled slightly differently

she looks gorgeous! the only thing thst comes to mind for me is that the water effect looks fantastic on the top of her head, but the strands near the bottom look too rigid to give the watery feeling (unless that was your intention)

i would either lighten the opacity for the sharper parts of her hair to make it appear more like water, or i would soften the edges and make it slightly more unkempt

i love the color palette and the eyes, great job

i did notice you can see some of her head through the hair anyway which is a really cool detail (like near the ear)

ofc if they are working for an advertising agency and such they'd add that by default when quoting a price

I can only speak for the ones I've done, but they were all charity zines.

So we'd (I was an artist, not a mod)

• get assigned a topic or page layout to complete
• send in progress reports for check-in if it was a longer production time
• pick a cause to donate a cut to
• send files
• wait for things to be compiled/advertise when the book would be on preorder

So basically a collective art book that you can either get paid for or be apart of without payment
