Hi everyone! I'd love some feedback for a mod I'm making (Featherdew Valley.. It replaced all the npcs/shops/town with an entire new one to make it feel like a new game.). This is the little girl's sprite.. (I'm happy with portraits, but I've always been weak at normal sprites). I'd really love some feedback. IDK if I've done the outside lines dark enough? @chilly hull i know some rly nice pixel-specific art software if you're struggling with PS, but it's looking good dude
a lot of the softwares have specific tools to set up sprites and check animations while you work and such so it's nice to work with, but it's all up to tastes and habits
i've used Aseprite and PyxelEdit and found both rly nice to work with

i dont really know if this is the right channel for this but i just started digital drawing(drawing in general also.) and my sketches look decent enough, but whenever i start my lineart they come out really wonky. does anyone have tips for this or does this also come with practice?

For Christmas I ordered a drawing tablet, never used one before... It's supposed to arrive tonight, super excited! it depends on the mood you wanna go for, when it comes to colors
do you want something exciting? bright, warm colors! yellows, oranges, and reds!
do you want something somber? muted, cool colors, like blues and browns
want something striking? vivid (but not too saturated) tones on black
there's also what colors go with what (my mother used to tell me "blues and greens together are a fashion disaster" but i personally like blues and greens together so...rip that) and the whole "8-color character rule" (where you only use a total of 8 different colors max in a character design) but those are just technicalities in the end imo
are you going for realism? look at references to see what colors show up irl
are you going for fantasy? use (not saturated) bright colors
it just all depends
though i do stress not to use vivid neon colors unless your style calls for it (like amber...davkro? 's artwork, BEAUTIFUL usage of neon)

if you're doing trad and aftaid of messing up, take a picture and if you do end up messing up then you can color it digitally even with the traditional line work

yeah! say you have two red markers, one infa red, one rose red, but when on paper, they turn out darker than you wanted
you do a color grid with all the markers/pencils/etc you plan on using first to know what they would look like on the paper so that doesn't happen, the whole "darker than you wanted"

thanks guys, originally i had little pixels sticking out at an attempt at hair but some other people said to remove them and try a pattern instead T_T but the boars i was looking at for reference, neither the babies nor the adults had patterns but they were really hairy. i have no idea how to make them look "hairy" which is what i want. i'll fix the symmetrical-ness and see how it looks

I am about to enter my first ever drawing on a digital tablet to the art-contest. It's far from perfect (but it is sucking in so much time and I really have to work on some deadlines before the holidays are over). But I will upload it here first, probably will still change a couple of things (that can be done quickly and with my still very basic understanding of the tablet things take long 😉 ). So if anyone has some quick tips (I know the shadows are off, but I already spend a lot of time on it, so be nice please 😉 ). Also, I rarely draw people, so...here we go...
I am also thinking of adding something in the front, in the original cutscene you can see the trees a bit, but that is a bit hard to see in mine (and if I add snow, it's a bit overwhelming), so any suggestions are very welcome 😉

@mellow gull tldr; i use the shape with ctrl b in aseprite and those are the patterns i alow on it cuz they look the best imo and the shading has 3 options hope your picking up what im puting down (some times i make them a big longer at parts to make leafs but that sometimes)

@chilly hull With regards to your question about interior, i think the rooms might be too long (y axis), specifically the leftmost and rightmost rooms, perhaps also the hallway. I think it makes the furnishing look a bit sparse relative to the floorspace.

All very good ideas, @chilly hull , I'll work on smoothing out the top area and upping the shading. In terms of color/saturation, I have the interior "filling" of the jug transparent, with the idea that it would look more like liquid, but would it be a better idea not to do that, and to convey it through color and shading instead?
