usually i think it involves pushing the limits of how something is foreshortened. making it more extreme allows it to be more legible-- importantly this means that if something is foreshortened and it does look funky, this doesnt mean it necessarily has been forshortened incorrectly

it's easier to read if more things are pushed in that direction; for example, if something was also coming towards you, in addition to going away from you. i know that technically one implies the other, but in an image generally you have "the picture plane", wherein things come out from that point and go in from that point. that point is, in your drawing, where the main body is

so if you wanted to keep that pose, then yes, shading would help the illusion of depth.

just know there are options out there, and hopefully this better explains what foreshortening specifically does 😃

sometimes there are conditions when retouching your clones takes waay longer than drawing from the scratch

I once drew a tree branch by branch. Then I realized the leaves would cover all the branches so I ended up cloning half of them

I just needed the branches in case there were gaps in the foliage

but i just spent like 100$ on plastic shelving that Just Dont Work

This is a foldout one that... even if brought to eye level half the damn stickers are covered in shadow
