Hey, can anyone help me with this? I was having trouble seeing this blanket in 3d, so I drew some lines to kind of help me figure out the contour of the blanket or whatever. So it looks fineish when I have them there, like I can sort of see the shape, but I genuinely can't figure out what I can do to show the shape of the blaket w/o the lines literally outlining the blanket lol. I tried adding some basic shadows but I'm still iffy on what to do

okay so i think the first thing to take note of is where there’s tension on the blanket, which are usually at points. it’s basically where it’s being held up if that makes sense. from the picture it looks like there’s at least 4 points on the edges which is where the corners are
the lines are pretty rough so it might not all be correct
but not only those 4 points, i think there are some areas where you have to consider tension between the person on the blanket (like where the legs are for example)
drawing lines there/putting shadow there would help create that blanket feel
this person explains it better but i think since you're focused on the blanket, you could probably worry about the first half of the tutorial.

First off thanks for doing all this lol, I really appreciate it.
For the most part you understood what I meant, the problem more specifically I'm having is everything in my picture is "floaty" rather than strictly adhering to gravity, so while the folds will definitely still be there, it's a bit weirder to think about, I guess?
The tutorial might help, I looked at it briefly and it's good to have some references for the different types of folds, I'll have to take a proper look though and see how I would apply those to the blanket. Like I vaguely understand the idea just from copying what others have done and kinda of figuring it out in sort of a reverse-engineering sort of way.
There's this weird disconnect between how other people understand these things and how I do, in the sense that people can look at these tutorials and easily understand the principles behind it, and then apply it to their own work, whereas I look at it and I struggle to pull-out those same principles. so while I'm sure this is all SGA(!!) I struggle to take those principles and apply them to my own work.
Obviously that's not a problem that can be easily fixed beyond just trying and trying until I get it right though haha. I'll give it a shot though and see what happens. :)

another thing i personally do is draw out “triangle folds” to certain areas and then erase some to whatever fits. a lil vague and probably not the best thing to do but it could possibly help if you want to try it?

Yeah I was hoping for more of a soap-bubble (rather than a water-bubble) kind of look, and the rainbow bit definitely makes sense. CSP actually has a bubble brush (whodathunk) so I used that, and it really just looks like an amalgamation of red, yellow, and green all weirdly intertwined. Genuinely no idea how you would draw that by hand. Here's a picture of what it actually looks like up close lol

Hard colored pencil is good for paper with a texture since the lead can handle it
If you're wanting to double with watercolors, I advise getting watercolor pencils instead
