tbh I'm legit pissed with illustrator CS5, because everytime I colourdropped in illustrator CS5, not only changes the colour but it follows the object stroke (outline) as well -.-

Depends on the tone you're going for. I can see him being unaware of the CC completion/repairs until it's too late (I think he's surprised when he sees it completed in the cc cutscene but I might be wrong)

Also if you don't have a reference for a particular part, then you can always google another angle. So say your having difficulties with the arm, and your arm is folded, but the reference shows a straight arm, then you can simply search for a folded arm reference.
Another tip, is when your looking over a reference, think of what your seeing.
Lemme explain what I mean by that.
The three main visible things you can see on a human (anatomy related) is
Bone(knees, elbows, cheeks)
muscle (Arm, legs, abs)
Skin
As for the skin category, obviously almost everywhere is skin, so this category is referring to the wrinkles.

Knowing what your seeing, where the muscles end and the bone begins, helps construct the form, realistically or with a cartoons twist.
Of course this isn't mandatory for all styles, but it seems that's what your going for.

And my final suggestion is to not forget the to look at the shilouette , ie the outline.
