"Fable what happens during the timeskip?"
Jackson uses his communications minor to disastrous effects
And ValleyBook is born
The worst part? This is going to be 100% canon to my overall story too, since the first part's conflict is social media related
Not even gonna be a one shot, it's gonna be the next fuggin chapter
Sebastian accidentally sends an edgy meme to his family group chat instead of the personal one and Robin freaks out
"Sebby are you ok??? Do you need to talk to someone???"
"Mom it was just a meme."
"Depression isn't a joke Sebby!!"
sebastian 100% has an anime pfp
You bet
George's pfp is one of those shitty pfps that everyone's older uncle has
Blurry and taken from below
Yes
Evelyn’s is her flowers
or alex’s baby pictures
(dont ask why i have lol)
Not the kind of meme you should send here though
True
It is now gone x)
admin logs
www
God I love this
This is how you get people to read your fanfic, make a memey one shot chapter
ah
Peko I'll be honest I keep seeing your pfp as a girl with a massive chin instead of hands
i want to write! my story of sam and sebastian and farmer x)
oh my god wwww lmao
chin...like gakuen handsome
Big chin
im actually sorta kinda working on a mod that makes seb and sam dialogue imply they're dating!
ARARARA?????
i think there’s already one
good thing i didnt go too far working on it
it replaces their heart events to imply they’re dating
please ;0; i have the ship of sam, sebastian and farmer all together cryes
CUUUTE
you can still go ahead with it!!!
nah i dont want to copy or anything >__<
it’s an xnb mod yiik
!xnb
An XNB mod replaces some of your game's .xnb files to change the game (unlike newer mods that go in your Mods folder). This is an older type of mod that's no longer recommended, and can cause a number of issues. See https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Using_XNB_mods for help using them (and a list of alternatives using Content Patcher), and https://stardewvalleywiki.com/Modding:Editing_XNB_files for help unpacking & editing them (including for use with Content Patcher).
Yikes
i meant the one where zola says 'i hate you'
Think it’s ‘!installxnb’?
also the op got called out for creeping someone over a post
Use .xnb loader!!!
omg really
Or use content patcher!!!!
!installxnb

Oh my God
huehueh
What on earth is the context
@tidal nova explain bb
omg this again xD
xnb's are bad
zola hates xnb
I mean they're right
whats wrong with xnb ):
only cavemen use xnb mods
Ewww xnb mods
.xnb is how you fuck up your game
They cause issues sometimes
but in creative discussion instead of #making-mods-general
yeah willow get whipped and nay nayed
i wish I could draw more than chibi (´・ω・)
your art is super cute the way it is!
wait but whats the alternative to xnb though
Content patcher
your art is cute peko
.xnb loader
Nothing stopping you
death
Both patch in the .xnb without directly replacing files
oh i don't think i was modding when that was a popular thing
alternative of xnb is content patcher
neat
a lot of mods on cafe naver are xnb
😄
so i had to convert them for myself
😔✊
wah, thank you (〃ω〃)
i got a really nice farmhouse redesign mod from them and most (if not all?) of my portraits are from cafe naver too
the foreign fandom doesn’t really know much about smapi/cp
by the way someone mentioned me before o.O
a ghost
ah found it, between those long walls of texts xD
@lament turtle
thx
was messing with my style lmao
i wanna do a multiplayer group where everyone tries to go through the deep woods mod successfully
I was pinged
we were discussing xnb hehe

Fuck .xnb
that emoji lMAO
I read the convo
If y'all wanna understand why I hate them
It's because it's outdated as fuck
And the op of the mods don't say it
Nor the version
So noob modders take them
I de-converted one of zola's mod back to xnb and I got insta-karma tomorrow after that
Well it works most of the time
And 'my games doesn't work anymore

Alright I've been thinking more about the zine now that I have a day off.
General SDV zine - Not focused on any specific thing in SDV, really. Physical and digital release. Physical release will most likely have to be curated depending on number of applicants and variety of art submitted.
Thinking for physical release maybe A5 size?
In terms of the actual content of the zine, an anything goes approach would be the best. Draw something inspired from a cutscene, a day on the farm, your stardew favs, etc etc.
The one thing I'm stuck on right now is... OCs. OC farmers will most likely be allowed if they're in a piece with other canon characters but I'm not sure about having OC farmers on their own?
😩
source here sorry ( https://cafe.naver.com/starvall/46960 )
.. shane? o.O
nope abigail
holy fuck
SHOCKING TRUTH
i see it now
A compendium of art from various artists
In this case its people submit art based on whatever theme, it gets compiled into a book and printed
I'm just trying to work out like kinks in it n stuff
sounds cool b
care to re-explain the slot system again? is it like one slot for each characters or wut? o.O
I'm honestly going to drop the 'slot' system I think?
It was just a way to arbitrarily assign artists to characters to avoid us having like, 9 drawings of one bachelor but 2 of another
But with physical release being curated I don't really need to worry?
I don't really know if it's a wise decision xD
If it's being curated it should be fine, there's a level of content control that way
Yeah.
@crude reef KAMISAMA GIVE ME THAt mOD PLEASE
So 👀 is sdv zine/antho happening
it's on cafe naver so if you don't have an account you can't download it... i can download it for you though and DM?
sharing it right here doesn't hurt :x
Sure! ;; is it all of the village/bachelor?
that one is only abigail but there are other ones too
Ohoho
I'm gonna do a proper writeup and stuff to make it look professional, then I'll bug CA about it. I'd love to get approval from him or get a foreword on it
i've seen uhhh
maru, leah, multiple abigails
has there been a zine for sdv?
and @pastel iris i guess you're right
it's xnb so if that makes you ugh you'll have to convert
.xnb

I heard someone say "multiple abigails"
^ boom
doesn't take long to convert? should I do the honour? 😄
The preorders for it closed a while ago
lol it's one of those genderswap mods i don't know how people feel about them generally so i don't want to link if it offends some people :x
And all the zines for it were shipped out in January
ive yet to see any ftm mods I like
the pic i sent was of abigail
WHAT
that was genderswap abigail before??
that looks more like shane
yup
Like applications were open from... july to august of last year.
really? looks cleaner than shane sorry shane
heck I thought it was pixie hair version of abigail
hoh
there was art of him on there too but i dont have a source so i'll post it then delete it super fast
thats the zine i was mentioning
oh shahafshsj
gone forever.
its like
OH NO
Preorders literally JUST closed
DID U MISS IT
like two weeks ago
I missed it
rip
So I Mean
well anyways they don’t own sdv 🤘
ok repost 5 seconds
If this is an 8 month cycle
Yeah exactly
If this is an 8 month production cycle from opening apps to shipping out we should be fine
lord that is not Abby
wew
hey i'm just the messenger
Another Abby
lmao bookmarked xD
🤷
people say in the comments it looks like vanilla seb lol
it's just the most non-Abigail genderswap I've seen
ppl here really love sdv and know more about it than most ppl
IT DOES
there are others one sec
CAWAII
zine would be awesome
not edgy enough for sebby lmao
softboy seb
I've never actually done genderswaps of my farmer / Abby..... something to add to the to-do list
also sorry if i came across as discouraging, i wasnt trying to b
I liked that abby tbh
is it possible to send folders over discord... probably not
there are 3 files:
1 - he smiles more
2 - normal
3 - walking sprite
skinney abbey
i dont wanna drop 30294 files so just DM me if you want them!
its unique and well drawn but it really fails to capture abbys character and unique features. it looks more like a more feminine seb or a cleaner shane.
👀
👁w👁
its unique and well drawn but it really fails to capture abbys character and unique features. it looks more like a more feminine seb or a cleaner shane.
what about my abby key? :V
what is yours?
it's not mod ready yet, but I overhauled her to be looking more.. wild than before xD
you could notice my version of whenever I draw abby is more spikey right?
ye
ok wait keychain i think i have one that you might like better
( source: https://cafe.naver.com/starvall/19062 ) is this more 'abagail'y to you? 🤔
That's really good!
I like that they tried to keep the bang style similar but more toned down
that actually looks better
in case if you found my style of abby is far-fetched, I'd be willing to change it once the time is right 😄
needs more time looking for ideas anyway o.O
a lot of ppl draw abbys hair differently I noticed so its not that farfetched
I draw it curly and long, like a mix between her portrait and world sprite
some people just go all out on either one
curly short or long straight
well, so far I haven't seen people draws abby with straight hair mode like I do
im thinking about later today doodle my farmer Keaka and Shane interacting in some of Shane's heart events. sounds like a good idea?
do what you want!
as if her curly hair is like her main characteristic
Yo in terms of zine, pulling discussion back to this again
In terms of 'merch'
Pins and stickers sound fair?
And what do you all think would be fair compensation for people who don't make it into the physical zine
nub question kred? if I were in this zine project, do I have to ship those.. products like stickers, postcards, etc? o.O
What do you mean? Production will all be handled on my end
I don't expect contributors to do any manufacturing lol
acrylic charms?
alright so.. you're handling any prints, noted
sorry I'm really new to this kind of thing lmao
i have seen it plenty, azrael. you just aren't following a ton of Abby artists like I am :P
Probably not. Acrylic charms are very costly to produce
Pins and stickers cute! For digital, maybe compensation for digital only spreads!
what about the colour mode? obviously it needs to be cmyk right?
my fucking bad habit : forgot to change colour mode whenever I started making arts
yea true pretty costly
Mmm contributors can post crops of their final piece but I'd say wait a month or so until after shipping ends to post final piece publicly
Again if anyone reading is interested shoot me a DM
think of this is a babby interest check LOL
as for not accepting pre-existing art, I'm not kinda sure what counts to this criteria :/
as it's never been posted before or wut?
any art made before this
As in don't dig out art that youve already made to put into the zine
new art only
All artists who make it into the digital zine will be given the full digital zine pdf.
All artists who make it into the physical zine will be sent a copy of the zine, minus shipping (unless in Canada).
All artists who produced merchandise will be sent a copy of the zine, plus merchandise.
Does this sound fair?
hmm...what if i had no merch, but i want the version with?
i mean keep in mind this is all like compensation
I get it it's new art, but is it like literally must be start from the scratch?
yes
you know that everytime I made arts, I always have 2 versions : incomplete traditional and digital due to my lack of equipment
so what if the traditional has been made, but the digital is not yet?
it needs to be something made exclusively for the zine
you can't take something already made (in the case, taking that and just digital it) that's still something already made (in my opinion, feel free to correct)
^^
like I said : incomplete traditional, so does this counts as 'already made' or not?
note that 'incomplete'
Mmm I'd consider it already made
Zine, in my opinion, is something to celebrate a work. It's something made people who love it. So, take the time to make something to show how much you love it! :)
If you sign up for a zine you need to be ready to contribute your best possible work fresh for it
It's like working for a company
alright I'll keep it noted
as about the content, is there any restrictions?
I'm not sure if I seen you mentioned 'kinky' word before o.O so the rule is pretty much same here? sexy art is allowed but not sexualised art?
oh sjdhgjk kink is like
ironing out kinks
like roadblocks
nothing nsfw, lewd, or gory
I'll DM you my idea is just to make sure
Just make sure it obids by the rules (that’s a word right?)
zines are p cool
im excited!
I love zines
i remember when people were making those pokemon variation zines all by themselves i was so proud
Ive been in a few of them so I could help mod things if you want? :0
that'd be super appreciated fee!!
Like I try and be in at least 4 a year lmao so I've picked up some things
i'm currently like scouting out printing sites now
feebs 4 zine jumanji
Okay! Just shoot me a dm and I can ask my old zine crew where they shopped at
Half way slime
BABY BOY, BABY
xD
17 frames
probably only animation i really do simple but still
in piskel i get to see how end product looks as i draw the slides
and prolly only pixel ones i do too
it's cute
Aww issa lil babie slime
I hate slimes in sv but yeah xD its still cute

no internet and me wanna vc as i do mah slimey boy/ girl
i mean its not good enough net to let me join vc and use it
pic of me I wish that I could draw like this kinda stuff, with the background and such. or that I had enough money to pay someone who was good to do it 😂
im not the best but i got some skill in landscape
my phone gonna be end of me >.>
It does make me sad though because like it was in colorado and??? theres no mountains lol
vent art turned into possible merch??? find out at 11
awww!
is there any parts that you found buggy in your eyes guys? I'm kinda felt buggy but not sure which part it is
Mouth feels like the perspective is off
and where do you suggest to move it?
I think it's less move it and more make it a touch larger. Also, I believe the top part of the mouth needs to be concave instead of convex to follow the curvature of the face
Also it should be at least partially in the shadowed zone of the face as currently the mouth would be ending at the nose
Also it should be at least partially in the shadowed zone of the face as currently the mouth would be ending at the nose
uh.. I'm not sure what you mean 🤔
so what I did is changing the upper part of the mouth just like fable said and moving the whole mouth to the left little bit
azra that awesome! i love the shading! can i give you a tip on the mouth tho?
just posted the misty upgrade in #creative
oooo
you can tell the difference. Small difference but big looks.
both are awesome!
the gullible idiot in midle of winter hopes to get butterfly xD
the mouth is too...triangular
wassup?
So I'm writing this chapter where Shane is jealous about the farmer and Elliott's relationship
But turns out Elliott is using Shane and the farmer as inspiration for his latest book
I'm trying to figure out what Elliott and Shane would say to one another since they don't really interact
maybe shane could like scream at elliot
and elliot can kindly explain the situation to shane
and the farmer being like "you see? no need to worry, shane" and then shane being like you're right, im sorry, and elliot jotting down the conversation between shane and the farmer
Ohhhh that's good.
I just had Elliott asking about Shane's thoughts relating to the farmer
And Shane was getting defensive and aggressive
the farmer could be like shane, don't be cold with elliot, he just thinks we're cute together and that we're a good inspiration
idk i think him responding sarcastically and acting snarky while answering would better fit him
eh idk this is just my suggestion
that's a rather.. vague input xD
just to let you know I've actually changed the mouth shape a lil bit before you asked
would be much quicker if you have references and post it here rather than just words xD
okay sorry so what i meant is that it doesn't look natural enough. I know the way you made the curve is to give it more depth but it's too...geometrical. And i feel like it's too pointy on the bottom
I found this online i ike idea i think i may make something like this
pointy at the bottom.. well I guess you're right
well I guess this looks better xD
I guess vector designing makes me forget such details like pointy ends xD
I hope this one is acceptable here. I wanted to give my Lilitel that lovely Morticia Addams look
how are you cool people doing? Having a productive time I hope?
oh gawd hec's art returns
any art is acceptable hec, as long it's not against the rules
too bad I can't finish my sdv fan arts. Procrastination is evil
I've made this today as well, but god, it's so cursed. I don't know what I've been thinking about really
Lol that's definitely cursed
But the other drawing you showed looks gorgeous
When you walkin'
awww thank you
artblock is indeed an evil things. But I wish I'd stop being so lazy and start making money I guess
hello hecatta!!
i always love seeing your art
ye^^
that warms my heart ❤
give heca artisan role
and the dnd community always got money if ur into freelancing a lot
they gotta have the farmer role first
I am fine with the role I have, no worries :з
besides I am not that talkative anyway, sadly
the dnd huh
I don't know much about dnd, honestly
but I've always been into drawing portraits or illustrations of characters
everytime heca posts an art, I feel like I'm not worthy of my artisan role
I just worry that some people may be very harsh, I am very sensitive and soft. Too bad
are those weed socks
no! don't say that!
DnD is Dungeons and Dragons, and a lot of people would like their characters drawn.
i never considered thered be a market in dnd
You have a sellable level of skill Hecatta.
every artisan is great here and sure deserves their role! o:
there's a huge market for dnd characters yeah
Please, I didn't want to make anyone feel bad :c
Please, I didn't want to make anyone feel bad :c
it's a joke hec xD
sorry, I am a dummy 😅
Hello I am [DnD player] and lemme tell you, seeing your character realized by someone else is an amazing feeling
There's an artist in the DND party I'm in and she does little comics and every time I see my character I am delighted
maybe I should learn more about dnd then
im the artist of my dnd group but my dnd group don't play dnd they play WoW and pretend it's DnD -___-
ye ive made hundreds of dollars from designing dnd characters for people
tbh I really wanted to do commission mainly for dnd, but ever since I watched skallagrim videos, I'm kinda felt buggy when I draw impractical fantasy weapons and armour xD
"where's our next quest hwat are we killing and whats the reward" n they actively hate roleplaying
A while ago, there was a challenge to draw people's Farmers from their SDV games and only one person drew mine but I'll cherish it forever bc it's so good
the real treasure is when everyone in your dnd party (including yourself) are all artists so ur constantly getting fed art
my gf is an artist too so when she plays as well we have two artists
it's fun to see our perspectives on the characters :v
Also hi everyone I'm back after a long time and I have some music lemme quick grab it and post it in creative
welcome back riku, its nice to see u again!
heya :з
Nice to be back! I'm glad to see not only familiar faces and new art of old ocs, but a bunch of new peeps! Here's a very, very late welcome to you all!
by the way hec do you have an art site?
i look forward to listening to ur music again :>
Sweet, moar music!
site? Only tumblr and FA page
your cel shading is soo good, if you don't mind using your art as my cel shading references?
oh I don't mind, no worries
don't worry it won't be same because I'm doing vector lmao
((just saying imo you should use real life for reference as much as you can, if you reference other peoples art you'll just end up with a sort of... diluted version of what they're doing since you dont understand the source))
It's good when you can inspire or give new ideas how to draw
it's just some shading positions
and that will impact your flexibility
I'm using both, cat, I know
a folder full of artists who draw eyes a certain way that you like
just making sure
so then you can go through if youre sturggling with stylising eyes
and i agree morris
the problem is my camera quality is damn low
and pick and choose 'i like how this person draws the eyelashes and this person does the iris'
as long as it's not a complete copy or tracing, it can be very inspiring and motivating looking at other's art and techniques
xD it's impossible to trace your shade in vector software hec xD
I'm just saying
i started out the same way as you azrael
i think it's a good idea to like look into fundamentals as you're comfortable doing so and have maybe a traditional sketchbook too that you can draw in whenever'
so what's your tumblr again?
oh by all means, it's more fun doing in dm 👀
huh?😅
someone kick my ass and make me do zine work if im not going to work on my report
sure, wer u live m8?
@lament turtle grats on artisan!!
thank u froz!!
omg sakura is artisan
Yes she is now
congratz sakura 🎉
🎉
thank you azrael!! ❤
Congrats!
thank uuuu
welcome to artisan,,,
Yeah ^
Welcome 2 yellow party
thank chuu
ywyw ouo
god i want to buy these fucking art books but theyre like...
90 dollars
then its another 40 to ship them

dang 😮
what does that "how to think when you draw books" mean? sorry i'm a bit clueless lawl
me too
theyre like tutoial compilations hold on lemme grab the link
Oh that’s well worth the price
https://theetheringtonbrothers.blogspot.com/p/every-how-to-think-when-you-draw.html I think I should be allowed to post this?? i dont think it couts as advertising
this is a list of 200 of their tutorials
and theyre super clear and apply to any skill level
One of my many purchases is a tutorial vid of a single painting. Costed me $75
You know
if you think it’s worth it, you get it.
I understand that the shipping is damn nut but I have a feeling that the actual price of the book must have been thoroughly evaluated by the artist themselves
I think giving book recommendations is fine and could be really helpful for some of us here looking for guides!
I’m so sorry if I came off rather hostile with this
I read it as you not being happy with the pricing of the book
all good!!
the pricing is totally fair
its just a limited time offer through kickstarter that i just dont have the money for at the momet
Let’s hope that when they get funded enough they will have an online shop with affordable pricing!
I’ve clicked through their links and they’re all really good and easy to follow/get ideas from
Thanks for sharing!
They're doing it as like a specifically limited time thing
Wow. I wrote more for a Drabble I did for Shane and the farmer in less than 1 hours than the Drabble I've been working on all week.
Not sure if I should be impressed or disappointed
Impressed
oink
I bought new watercolor paper and 4 new brushes last night. I am ready
lep
amazing azrael!
soooooo is anyone here good at pixel art?
writing biographies are hard
wordcounter is such a nice website ugh
also i have to develop side characters now and im too lazy
You can do it Jev!!
Yeah!
Also I wrote a little Drabble Shane and the farmer trying to build a crib for their baby and I realized I was supposed to finish the other Drabble I had started earlier.
@ Sakura whassup
oh hi!
Howdy o/ what's up with pixel art
im making an npc mod and i suck at drawing lmfao
so i was wondering if anyone would be willing to draw for me
Ohdang :0 I've never done art for an sdv mod but hmmm would it be commission or request? Because I'm sure someone on the boards or here should be down with experience with that but knowing if it's a job or not is a starter
its more like a request, cuz im broke af lmfao
Ahhh that's understandable u3u money is hard sometimes
yeah lmfao
Mmm I might be able to help?? What are the deets
so i'd give you a few descriptions and things i'd like the character to look like so you can draw it
Full sprite sheet including portraits?
just portraits, i can do the sprite sheet (i assume i can)
of course ill give you credit in the mod list
How many portraits are needed
Some NPCs (ie pierre, morris) have only like 4 portraits while some (sebastian penny) have like 10
hmm lemme see
Is the npc like romancable
yes he is
Or is it another townsperson you can talk to
Av
Ah
Does he have any unique expressions or outfit changes
as a unique expression i was thinking either annoyed or melancholic
the ones that are basic that i need are neutral, happy, sad, love, angry and unique
Cause I think the expressions are something like
Neutral
Happy
Annoyed
Angry
Sad
Surprised
Blushing
Unique
For most Romancable NPCs ajyways
oh okay so let's do all of them and for unique we can do melancholic, so not sad, just pensive and a bit sad
For sure. My schedule is a little full but I'll let you know if it clears up and I have time for reqs
awesome, thank you!
https://twitter.com/amildlatte/status/1111017641135636480 i have never felt so validated 😭
awww
The only problem is, for me at least, it's hard to find the funding to get artists, to create games, to find funding... Kinda an upside-down pyramid scheme
I'm not complaining about them being overpriced though, Actually I think most are underpaid. It's just that the market is so skewed against artists and developers alike.
nah at the end of the day, someones desire to create something is outweighed by my right to live. if someone doesn't have the funding it isn't my issue and they're free to get back to me in the future when they can afford it.
That's very true, but there's also the issue of the Devs right to live. I mean, technically I still live in my parents house, so it's not that big a deal to me, but still. It costs something like $4m to create a game, which may or may not pay off.
Plus, a Dev needs Artists, and Artists need Devs.
If one goes under, so does the other
Additionally, during the creation of a game, the artists are payed either by hour or per work, which means that if the studio goes under, they can join a new studio. The owner of that studio, if it goes down, loses everything.
no? artists
dont rly need devs
theres a lot of art to be made outside of what a dev needs/wants
Other than TV shows? Not much steady work. None that comes to mind.
i think in this context they're talking about commissioners and like personalised art of ... OCs or something. not on a large scale like a game
Oh yeh absolutely, I know people who make crazy amounts of money from commissions (Especially furries, man that community is NUTS)
But that's not exactly steady work. A studio could hire an artist for 2-3 years (Or in some cases, 5-10 years), whereas commissions are dependent on if you can find work or not
those
still arent the only options
theres ways for an artist to have a somewhat decent income without relying on devs
gestures to youtubers, people with Patreon, etc etc
yeah !
also no one said it was steady work, they're saying the amount of time it takes for an individual piece to be completed compared to how much they're charging for it is lower than minimum wage, not that they get constant payment at that level
f
if that makes any sense
also how tf do you write a characters personality if theyre shy but more open past that
like order wise
chicken man
bok bok
CUTE
his hair is hard lol
usually ill write 'this character is so and so but deep down theyre so and so'
but like it feels like such a bad and beginners way of writing
Again, I agree with you. That's very true. Though I don't think I agree with youtube, it's kinda meh for making money. Also I agree with you Willow, but the average budget for a developer per artist is $10K a month, or $120K a year. That's... actually more than my dad, a firefighter, who supports five kids and his wife. He makes like $90k per year.
Mostly I'm just bellyaching about the stupid rise in the costs for the creation of a game, from $1m to on average $5m
It also completely depends on the project.
Hell, SDV's art and coding was all done by CA
Honestly if you're starting out in the dev industry and want to make an indie game... start small. something 2D. pixel art means you don't need to put quite as much detail into everything and you have perfect control over the art.
((though that isnt saying that pixel art cant be detailed,,, you have more control over it))
ca had drive and determination that you won't see most people have
not to diss anyone else's drive and determination, just like there were sacrifices made
also this is where i'd say go to school for whatever you want to do, if you're worried about costs/networking/communications/etc like what you're saying
because that's one of the ways you're gonna find it easiest/best to get the connections you need to have the funding, the investors, the artists/devs, the companies, interested in you
...unless you just do like no networking in school, or your school sucks ass in that department
then rip
yeah $1m-$5m is not the budget for smaller indie games
i could see $1m at most, but def not $5m
And if you do need to hire someone, hiring a freelancer to do some simpler sprites will be a more affordable compared to hiring someone to do 3d models etc.
also! crowdfunding is a great source as of late if you have even the slightest of an audience
unless you're willing to take the sacrifices necessary in order to figure things out yourself
crowdfunding could work yeah
might have to pay for advertising a bit, though, but facebook etc is GREAT for audiences
and also adapting your skillset!
like it feels weird to say, but if you're an artist/developer/anything, facebook is the place to be for your business
and yeah crowdfunding, even if you do have to diversify your skillset for it or end up spendng a few hundred for assets
cause if you show a working version of your game, you can pay an artist to do only what's necessary for what's being shown
Yeah that's pretty much what I'm doing, but I've been an entrepreneur since I could walk, so I'm also gonna pay for a lot of it out of pocket
The budget for the game I'm currently working on is projected to be $60-$100K
What kind of game are you planning?
^ mobile or pc
how far into development are u ?
2D, story driven, PC
If this is your first game it'll be a lot easier to step into the field if you're doing a 2D sidescroller as opposed to a full 3Dmmo
And right now I'm just making the funds for it.
Also I've been doing Unity game development and Programming for five years
I've put out some smaller 3D and 2D games, mostly for school projects and crap, but yeah
ayyy school is a good place to start
is there nowhere irl that you're able to host something at like a job fair?
if you're not in the city, i know it can be tough
Ehhhhhhhhhh we're 30 minutes from civilization xD
F
The nearest place to get food is either A) our backyard or B) 20 min away
what about hosting a panel at nearby conventions and looking into that?
Again, in my memory there's never been a convention (Other than a political one) within a 60 mile radius
The joke around here is that you can find us if you get lost, and only if you aren't trying to
Like online ones?
yeah
To hire artists, or to acquire funding?
both, i guess
welll I've asked around about artists, and I'm compiling a list, but not really about funding
Honestly, I think you should get a working prototype,
Hire artists to do only what's absolutely necescary to show off on kickstarter or somethin
I'm starting a line of clothing and crap (Like phone cases), for a kickstarter campaign
Yeah, then to do that, Morris
the clothing and so on outside of initial prototype designs can admittedly wait until right before the campaign kicks off, unless that was already your plan
starting funds can go towards the prototype first as priority imo, but that's just me
Well the apparel and stuff is completely unrelated to the actual game.
It's to generate revenue to put towards making a prototype WHICH can then be used for ANOTHER kickstarter campaign for the actual game
Trust me I'm not insane, despite my mother saying so
oh so a bit of what kynseed did kinda?
kynseed? Not heard of 'em
tl;dr people from the company that made fable decided to, after the company was axed, create their own game
they created a kickstarter to create their game in the first place, but all they were able to get done was a prototype
it's in early access rn but they're using the funds from the early access to steadily build their studio as well as their game
if you're unfamiliar with fable, it was a triple A game under microsoft (i think? i know they were affiliated)
ohhhh actually my bros play Fable
I didn't know it was still in early access, that thing's ancient
kynseed is indeed still in early access
ohhhh ok I understand
well
I mean it's kinda like that
but the thing is, I'm dead broke, so I need money to actually be able to make a prototype to put onto Kickstarter
and thus the line of apparel
... how adult are you wanting to go with this
i'm not saying you aren't already or that the other options aren't adult but
because there's the possibility of small business loan, getting investors, and tl;dr credit things that you can do to help gather initial funds
but those end up hitting your credit and that can be a whole mess if you have no current way of at least staving off the additional interest of it all
like the experience you have with coding, is that from a job, or
Trust me I've read through other options. But you must understand that I'm actually below the legal age to take out a business loan, or to get a job
,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
this entire time i assumed you were like in your mid-20's wanting to take on the indie game leagues

i need to stop assuming everyone's my age
okay so when i was talking school, i was talking like, college
high school isn't gonna get you any networking unless you go the extra mile with your ap classes
Oh I'm homeschooled
Same rio!! x) I forgot children are here lol
are you gonna look into going to uni/college?
^ Lmao actually I'd expect it to be mostly children
I'm a few years too young for full college, but I'll be taking some classes next year.
rip
Eh? x) why to expect mostly children here?adults play games too!
That's true! Though I'm stereotyping too, because my parents never play video games, so I don't assume many others do either.
a lot of the advice i know of is usually for people who are able to have a steady income, access their credit, have had or currently going through uni/college experience, and/or able to travel
sweats
am sorries
¯_(ツ)_/¯
Np, I've taught myself everything I know, as I'm the only techie in the history of my family, so I'm prettyyyy much fine
ay at least that's a start somewhere
though uh
unsure as to how it works though but uh
i think you have to be 18 years and up to use kickstarter/crowdfunders/do anything with money over the internet when it's big like that
Yep and my older bro was willing to sign stuff
like even paypal requires you to be 18
unsure how that exactly works but i hope it does for you
xP The important thing is, I can't be arrested for lying on a federal form And even if I was, I'm too young for Federal Prison SO
that's why they made juvie //patpats

I think the police man around here would be too lazy to enact the arrest anyway, sooooo
irs aren't tho
Silently hides under table
my advice i think that would be the extent of it would be just study your field at the moment and then try to enter it once you have your wits about you fully
like funding, networking, connections, etc
might take a while, hell might even take years, might be in just the few months depending on how hard you work on it, but hey, it's good that you have a dream at least
keep at it and it won't be a dream anymore
it'll be a nightmare ouo
Lmao, well actually I have five years of experience
of coding
but has that been freelancing experience, or just wittling away at programs on your own time
because i can say that i've been an artist for 22 years, but in actuality, all people want to hear is how long i've been a professional artist
That's been developing and producing games, working at marketing, pretty much every field of game development. I love to learn new things, so I've just worked at basically everything
Yeah technically I've never been a professional
because I've never been payed to do it
that's where you can start imo
it helps with building connections, helps with building funding, and helps with networking, and helps with building a name for yourself
i mean it's not the route you have to go
but it's the one i'd choose
Indeed, but again the issue is that I'm underaged to actually accept payment
i thought your older bro was gonna sign for stuff
That'd work for crowdfunding, and other umbrella funds, but for direct payment, it'd be preeeetty hard to conceal
*And illegal
and it depends on your state's/country's age limits
just because the internet says 18 and up doesn't mean the country/state requires it so
shit i was getting paid for artwork and small shit when i was 6
and i mean $20 a piece
it depends on how you go about it
but i'm in america
and things work different in america from state to state
you got paid for art when you were 6?
wow
getting Earning The Dough early
^
6 yr old me was a useless sprog who could barely manage stick figures lol
lmao yeah i wanted to prove my mom wrong that i didn't have to go around charging .05 cents for a drawing of peoples' pets
Lol, where I am I can't do work until 16, and even then only with parental consent until I'm 18
ahhh in michigan it's 15 years of age with parent's consent, but it's limited to what they can do (so no going on ladders, no taking out trash for the business, etc.)
used to be 14 years of age
I mean, I've already earned quite a bit from various projects, like a card game I designed and sold
see! there you go
a hobby is just a hobby until you learn how to profit off of it
Like I said, with the cash from the card game, I'm hiring an artist to do designs for the line of Apparel
forums and boards is all i can think of until you get into the networking circle
just be careful with any online money shizz until you're 18
like super careful
which will start a kickstarter, which will pay for the demo of the game, which will go on kickstarter, and hopefully some of the runover will help to pay for my college eventually (MIT isn't cheap)
Yeah when I was younger I tried using things like Inbox Dollars and crap, that didn't go well
I don't use that email anymore, needless to say
ahhh i used to want to go to digipen institute of technology tbh when i was still into game design
is a pretty good institute, helped by nintendo and microsoft last i knew
v nice yo
it's good to have your sights set on something once you know it
Yup. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions. I should get back to work.
no probs, and good luck
You too
My lines...aren't thick enough :( weh
Way tf late but whoever said there wasn't consistent work for artists outside the shows is 100% not in industry lmao
Any of you ever get an idea for a drawing you're super excited about but are too tired to start?
I haven't been this happy for an idea for a while. Just hope I can pull it off
Probably not but it's worth a shot.
I really need to stop putting myself down
you do
no offence, but hearing artists constantly belittle their work makes me not want to see it. if you don't have confidence in your work, or can't at least keep your negative opinions of it you yourself, then why should i waste my time looking at it?
you don't have to think your art is the greatest, but if you want people to see what you're doing and see any kind of value in it, you need to cut those comments short
That's completely true, but its hard to have a high opinion on my own work when I can still barely draw a head.
Did you draw your pfp?
no ones saying 'Have a high opinion' just
Dont shit talk yourself ig
smetimes you just bring yourself further down by talking badly about yourself and your art
you dont need a high opinion, you just need to not be self deprecating
No I didn't, Retro.
And I'll try not to going forward. Tomorrow I'm gonna start off this idea - 100% focus on it. See where it takes me.
you're learning aren't you? isn't progress something to be excited about?
Well, either way, I guarantee you your work is better than just about 80% of the population.
like i'm a published artist who still isn't 100% confident in my work! i doubt i'll ever be! but i've learnt that calling my work bad or putting it down just pushes any viewers or potential commissioners away because if i don't see value in my work, why should they?
I am improving, its just a slow slow process and even now, some things just haven't clicked.
I admire so many artists for what they do and I just want to be like them
Giving up has, interestingly, never once crossed my mind
Hang on, I have this great double helix advancement pattern thing somewhere
all the artists you admire drew a lot of garbage before they got to wherever they're at! you gotta make a lotta bad before you do good! it happens
but instead of focusing on what you can't do, start celebrating what you can and look to the things that frustrate you as a chance for growth
so you can't draw a head. good! now you get to learn anatomy and how to proportion bodies. find out a style of drawing doesn't work for you? excellent. find the rules of that style and break all of them until you find something that clicks
That's a good way of looking at it. Its just so much to remember and think about though. Perspective, angles of the face and so forth
Like I'll watch all these tutorials where artists do step by step guides on stuff and then later, they'll do that same body part again with no construction. Its both impressive and a little disheartning
But you're right, I'll try and be more positive
Moaning isn't going to magically make me better at art
I'd be the best damn artist if it did otherwise.
Hi! Does anyone know how to use photoFiltre? I use it to make simple modifications on mods and usually the brush tool is exactly the same size as a pixel, but today when I opened PhotoFiltre the size is completely different!
And obviously I don't know how to make the size return to that of a pixel...
You could use Piskelapp.com, it's gr8
So I decided to scrap the Drabble I had been writing for the past week in favor of a Drabble I wrote yesterday.
The second Drabble I wrote under...interesting circumstances and I got way further in it than the first one.
I'm actually back at drawing
Actual fixed version
going to draw cutaway on this , time to suffer

Drawing a bunny was super fun, and I enjoyed every moment of it
aww, that's a good bunny
Where have you been Koog,is been so long, nice drawing
ok ok i dont remember if i mentione dthis here but if I did like
merch 'bundles' where you got a pin+sticker of whichever bachelor/ette, plus some smaller pins of their favourite items
i.e you get an elliott bundle and its like
1 x 1 3/4" pin of elliott
1 x 3" elliott sticker
1 x 3/4" pomegranate pin
1 x 3/4" lobster pin
1 x 3/4" duck feather pin
something like that
for 10 bucks
that looks great cup!! could totally see that as an emote
and oo
that sounds like such an interessting idea
👍
is the bundles for zine or just in general?
also, i wonder if people would buy stickers of chibis x0
In general!
I'd be selling these at like conventions
Though I guess I could offer them as an incentive for the zine
oh! i see i see x) just curious!
you should def up the price tho if ur doing bundles
Yep.
I normally do 4$ each 3 for 10$ when it comes to stickers/pins
but I feel like ehhh
1 sticker 1 pin = 8$
plus 3 3/4" pins which are cheap as shit to produce compared to 1.75" pins**
BUT I will say that I do want them to be the same price as my yoshi bundles?
Yoshi bundles are 1 large pin, 3 small pins, 1 large sticker, and 2 small stickers for 15$
I'm not sure what I can add to justify the price bump
Tax
And also what about characters like Alex who only have two loves?
cause if each of the tiny pin is supposed to be a fav
yeah!
oh!! I own a pin press but that's just because I knew I was going to get a LOT of use out of it. They're a costly initial investment. Mine was I think... 400CAD not including a graphic cutter
There's also some companies local to me that you can upload your artwork to and they'll make the pins for you if you aren't ready for a pin press yet
oh wow!
maybe, i should invest in one, hand them out at conventions to get myself known x)
Maybe!
The one I use is for 1.75" pins
For the 3/4" buttons I'm going to have to go through a friend to get them made as I don't feel like I'm in the proper place financially to get ANOTHER pin press
oooh i see i see x) have you seen, heart shaped pins?
oh cool!!
Can we discuss cosplay stuff in here?
yep!!
fdsjkds i was just about to say
im like... smol boy uwu
I WOULD do morris but the suit
the fucking suit
would be so expensive
so is Morris wtf you talking about. he's gnome sized
I mean
not necessarily
like, expensive compared to normal clothes
but likely not too bad
especially if you can fit into youth suits
well if you go buy a suit yes, they do tend to be expensive tbh but if it's possible, you could make one with cheaper materials?
I can probably make one but it'd be out of cheaper materials for sure
altho im not very knowledgeable about cosplay so idk
yeah
i think that's best but it would depend on you
theres nothing on suits
hmmmm
Hello everybody
hiya!
What you guys talking about ?
we're talkin about cosplay rn!
i do agree that everyone has really great arts!!!
i havent done anything art related in awhile and i miss it so much
I am very bad doing anything that is related to art
god i forgot like 95% of wigs are meant for long anime hair
I can just draw stickmans
awww i mean everyone doesnt start out really good!! it takes a lot of practice
I guess i should practice more
cant wait to see stuff from you!
Don't say that you will regret
aww of course not! i enjoy seeing everyone's art
How many time of practice takes to do some good paintings ?
well there isnt an exact number. it's different for everyone, so i cant really say
and even then, people improve all the time so and someone else's "good" might be entirely different from another person
For how long you been practicing ?
i think it's good to not focus on numbers or when you'll be good but rather on if youre enjoying yourself and the process!
well
i think ive been drawing since i was little but i started seriously practicing in high school
so that would be around 5 years ago?
or maybe even less since it feels kinda on and off for me
Thank you for the hint
no problem!
What would you say about stardew valley and you experience playing it ?
hmm in general i think it's a great game! it was one of my first farming games and i thoroughly enjoyed it. in terms of art i think it definitely helped me a lot, especially after coming to this community discord. everyone is very friendly here and they are very polite with constructive criticism. it's definitely a very positive community that helped me out with my art a lot
i also picked up some pixel art bc of stardew which was fun trying!!
I agree with you
Stardew valleyvis very good cause you can chose what you will do to make money chose your tipe of farm that really gives the player options to chose what they want
Thay what makes statdew valley so good
those are very good points!
I am drawing something hope it be good
cant wait to see it!
You have to know that i tryed my best
of course! i understand
Thanks catto!
immediately recognized it as rick haha
Should I put it in Creative?
(Also I thought that was sonic the hedgehog at first, victor)
yeah, go for it!!
@hexed rapids i am saying that i am not good drawing
All you need is a little practise!
There is a hint to make it more beutiful ?
You just need to work on it
Ok
Your painting is very good
I like how you make he expresion of bored
@hexed rapids how many time you took to draw it ?
I drew it twice, once was a rough draft with just the lines, and the second time I smoothed the lines over and coloured it in
This was the rough draft
The color makes a big diference
Thanks
You think you can draw abgail ?
I might be able to draw her. I’ve only tried once before.
It worked ?
This is one of the first things i put real effort into
It doesn’t look that good though
That one is good too
Not with that giraffe neck
At least is better than the one i do
It's coming along and I like it!
aww that looks great koog!!
@elfin spire i suggest you should learn to draw straight lines and circles. Take some time to learn to draw basic shapes
Your drawings got potential but they lack accuracy, even using that grid. You're gonna get better in no time with practice!
I will sleep good night
you're fine with criticism?
ok so i think it's very wobbly in a way?
the lines arent straight
and your values doesn't really work it's very washed out
also the nostrils are off to one is larger than the other

but you got the overall shape of a nose right which is good!
process oof
damn 👍
do you uhh do cad?
wip so far
omg cute!
@patent zinc me ? no
i keep self projecting myself onto one of my character while im trying to write him and its so difficult
