Actually a general suggestion for anyone looking for something chill: civilizations. It's a documentary series I found in Netflix and so far it's all about art and how it's effected people through the ages and how ancient cultures used it. It also talks a bit about how modern artists clash with or embrace the art traditions of centuries

shading with black and white can still boost your color shading
since the rule is the same

Black and white is recommend for all to learn first because you don't have to worry about color
you only need to focus on making the value depth , shading , render

I wanted to make a dirt path on the ramp, but there aren't any good diagonal dirt tiles, and the ramp cliff tiles are specifically created to blend into light grass
I'm considering expanding the dirt area 'behind' the ramp though

I managed to finangle a dirt path onto the ramp, but it only looks okay at a distance. In winter, that illusion will probably shatter when the tiles swap out for the snowy ones

copying is definitely a good way to learn, i agree! it is always good to ask permission tho and if you cant, never post without the artist's permission is a good rule i think. but yeah, esp in the early stages of learning art, it's always good to use references.

Well as long the artist who do the copy said it is a copy , to be safe they can put on the original ref or artist name. Otherwise it isn't that bad
the only crime one shouldn't do is claim the idea / ownership / selling it

thats true but i still feel a lil iffy about posting art without permission. i think it's okay if you use it as a study and dont post it. as long as it's for study purposes and not actually stealing them then i think using another person's art as a reference is good. i know some artists are okay with using their art as a study and others do not. artists usually put in their bio or something if it's okay but i always assume it's not and never post it on any form of social media.
this is of course my opinion about it but as long as people dont intentionally steal things then it's ok

hmm i dont think it's being lazy. for the most part, what drives people to be "lazy" to learn other things is usually fear. the fear that they won't be able to get it right, especially if they've already been doing art and got used to getting their faces right, for example (if that makes any sense). at the very least, that's the case for me. afraid to fail at it when usually, failing is just progression to success.

Of that "talent is set" and "talent is grown" chart, I'm a mix of both, admittedly. I honestly do feel threatened by other people's skill, cause sometimes it does seem like I could never be as good. And I do give up easily and assume I have no affinity for things the moment it starts to go south. I can admit these things about myself.
