just some late clarifications : my 'portrait attempt' post before is more like WIP mod than a WIP artwork. Not trying to be self-righteous, those 'looking similar to eachother' feel it might be coming from these factors :
-lack of colour
-lack of details (hairs or cloth effects)
-all characters are based on default expression of vanilla portraits (Like Emily's default expression is grinning while the other bachelorettes are smiling like normal)

lack of colour is actually the main problem though, which is I think it's pretty common for anime line arts that caused it to looking similar eachother

@warped thistle I think that's a really common thing, actually, among all kinds of artists. I see a lot of writers talking about similar problems, spending ages on a piece on my to get a few kudos and no comment ts and forget Tumblr notes. And as far as I know the only thing you can do is just... Keep making art and putting your name out, remember why you're doing your art. It has value beyond like if you're proud of it or if you learned something etc
I've also heard doing art specifically to get like often backfires because if it doesn't work it's much more of a blow than "I did this piece and it was fun, oh well if it doesn't get attention rn"

Oh yeah! I've used pixie engine in the past to look at existing pixel art and copy it over. Stitch fiddle is a web browser based pattern maker that lets you put down the colours or symbols you want. You can access it via any browser or download the charts
