I think the proportians might be a bit off, but this is looking waaay better than my last attempt at this character.

there's a few guidelines for anatomy that can help keep things proportional. I only readily remember a few of them though, it's been some years.
A person in T-pose is the same length from fingertip to fingertip as from top of head to bottom of heel, for example

I'm attempting to make a chibi me how would i do the body?

you don't have to post in both channels,stick to this one when you share the wip you do and ask questions about art,second thing is that every character is made of basic shapes even if it's chibi or normal character like head is a circle,hands and legs are cylinders and so on,if you are still a beginner i recommend to study the anatomy first before to break the rules at least that's my way to learn getting better

but yes after all use geometric shapes

one thing I like to do when I start a drawing is sort of... block it out first with a sketch

even smth super simple, just drawing the basic shapes first really helps me lay everything out and get an idea of where things are supposed to go before I start rly drawing
