The thing with a lot of academic art is they don't really appreciate cartoony/animu styles. I don't know if you also draw realistic, but that's what they want, and I've heard story after story after painful horror story about art teachers treating stylistic students worse.

Art school/classes are a bit more about the contacts as well as exploring different art mediums. All subjects are about the networking in some ways, though. But there are so many ways to make money off your art these days, if that's what you want to do.

My main advice with backgrounds:
A) Study the rules of photography. This helps you think more about intereting lighting, framing, rule of thirds, and leading lines.
B) When painting your own, start with absolute basic shapes - cicles, triangles, rectangles. Just like anything else.
C) Watch how traditional painters (oil, acrylic, and watercolor especially) paint backgrounds. Watch youtube timelapses of these and study how they build up shapes.

That's true I'm not gonna lie, professors are harder on students who go more for an stylistic route unless you're in an art school specifically catered to that. And for art, theres a lot of other resources online. Art school is really what you make it. Kinda like going to the gym. You can exercise on ur own etc etc.
but if u just wanna learn the fundamentals like anatomy(which is important) and doing studies then take an art class yknow just to see how it feels in that setting

And if u dont mind paying Kiwi and ur electives have been covered just take an art class for fun. If you do, theres youtube tutorials and websites too that could help u with learning the basics

Since this has randomly gone quiet, I'mma ramble about the novel I've been working on for far too long
It's set on a planet that's kinda war-torn
Like, there's ruins of cities, and everyone has broken tech, but there's no factories or facilities to get new stuff
Progress is halted, and even sliding back for the people of this planet
Originally it was called Rytula, but that's more a place holder name

And the idea is, the planets under attack by aliens with sort of
morphing abilities?
They come to planets, and try to enslave the people of the planet using their morphing ability to kind of blend in at first

#

The novel itself is about a group of fighters, who only really want the planet to be free
but at this point, it's being going on for so long
That that's a reaaaal big task that you kinda need more than 10 people for

I was allowed to paint my room in the place I'm staying at right now. Single color, two cans was like $60-80 plus a bit for the supplies.
