I discovered something today. In my impatience of waiting for 1.6 on console, I decided to create a save on my long-ago-purchased SDV game on my PC. I have SMAPI and CJB installed so I was just playing around with warping, forzen time, unlimited items, etc. I now know:

1. I suck at gaming with a mouse.
2. I suck at gaming with a keyboard.

There is a difference between dying in the Mine/SC/Quarry and (somehow) dying in a regular cave (farm, Mastery room, floor zero of the mine); the former is extremely costly to die in and the latter is extremely cheap to die in (if you blow yourself up with bombs or something silly like that)

You may want to supplement your animal fodder by scattering regular grass starters near their houses from time to time.

What I used to do, is wait until there's a rainy forecast on the next day. Buy grass starters, wait until my animals are done eating today, and scatter new grass near the coop/barn.
The new grass will have a two-day head start (and I think I heard rain makes grass do three spread cycles at once?) before the animals start eating it, allowing it to last a lot longer

Ye, an animal has to be able to stand on the grass to actually eat it. A fencepost (or any solid object) will block it but still allow the grass to spread outward to adjacent tiles if no solid objects are on those

Have you tried it? Because the way this game actually categorizes indoor vs outdoor, caves/dungeons count as outdoor for some things (glow rings have full outdoor radius instead of tiny shrunken indoor radius). I want to know which way it counts for this.

Anyway, to clarify this, the data is up on the wiki, but basically, but basically due to sketchy rounding, you get more purple mushrooms than you should if the number of mystic trees in range isn't divisible by 4. Pure grid gets you either 12 or 16 trees per log. Those both divisible by 4. Offset every second row by 1 and you avoid this issue. Or you could figure out some other sketchy patterns to really try maximise this.

That said, less trees also means lower average quality.
