i get that. there are linux distros that have handholding for cases like this (see mint, ubuntu, manjaro)
with those distros you learn what you want, what you like, what you dont like etc.
and although there is no flight school for linux, you can learn everything using trial and error
for trial and error approach, i do suggest setting up a vm or making a dual boot with windows (your main data) and linux (your experiments etc)
