canyon is... idk what the purpose of it other than for the daredevil badge or to lengthen the already tediously lengthy mesa. most of the time, people would just risk fall damage to skip the canyon if they can't find good small gap or natural bridge. so, pointless feature.
tumbleweeds and tornadoes are rng crap that are avoidable if you go far far left.

the whole first half of mesa is just gimmicky and the climb is not challenging, just long.

if you really want an achievement related to alpine, go for getting past alpine with less than 10% cold. I'll look forward to the outrage from that because yeah, good luck not taking cold damage from sudden blizzard or being forced to go through freezing rock.

The only mechanically interesting and pretty cool feature of Mesa is the fact that it is full of uniquely dangerous food, and specifically the way you usually have to cook scorpions.
Everything else in Mesa is lame and doesn't really add to the player experience

When you are more used to the climb, you can reach shore's campfire mid nighttime and warm up with the campfire. You can also burn yourself to negate the cold when you go into tropics at night.
Tropics has scorchberries. Alpine has heatpacks, hot spring, and geyser vents.
Mesa has... nothing...
With these in mind, you should be further prepared for the higher ascents :P

I find it difficult to engage with any challenges because so much of the difficulty comes from locating a good path in a timely fashion. If I route an island on tenderfoot, then you're basically set from there

Every challenge is basically 'less valid routes' or 'less shortcuts' but once i know the way, it's just a matter of two runs

So unless we're taking things specifically blind runs, which gets a bit cooked if you fail one attempt...

Each time you play the natural food items are randomized. So that tree won't necessarily have the yellow, could have orange or nothing.

Fortunately the cold you get at night amounts to about 100% of your stamina bar so as long as you aren't terribly hurt/hungry you can always drop all your items and take a short nap and be fine

Dayuum, didnt think of burning myself with scorchberries to negate cold haha, found out recently that you can also negate heat with a sport drink, it cleared like half my heat damage i think

I found the optimal path for the coconut challenge in the Alpines (Not Pyroman approved) but it's not the same as the Ascent 6+ path

Different path for the coconut challenge. Since that challenge is only Ascent 3 you have more stamina to take a different route that has better ledges you can throw the backpack to than the route I did for Ascent 6+

95h in, I played Ascent 3 and Ascent 4 on my own and beat them just yesterday.

Reason: I've originally planned to play it with a friend so we could climb it together. Then I was on vacation for a month. Then when I was back, he went on vacation. As I didn't want to wait anymore, I asked him if it's ok with him, so I started playing the higher Ascents for the first time lol

Jump, place a tiny rope as high as you can. Then boost yourself up with it when you climb. You gain a good 3-5 meters for free

Additionally, and this is a more old school method, people would drop their heavy backpacks, climb to a ledge without it, set a rope then climb back down and grab the backpack then use the rope to assist them up with it.
