#Hey! I'm unable to toggle admin options as a server's host

Hey there!

I am hosting a local multiplayer server using the in-game 'Host' button. My Steam username is "Dusty-Bun".

Symptoms & Errors:

  1. When attempting to grant admin via the external server console using 'setaccesslevel "Dusty-Bun" admin', the console throws Lua syntax errors due to the hyphen in my name, stating: '=' expected near '-' and '=' expected near '<eof>'.
  2. When launching the server and joining, the red "Admin" overlay button is completely missing from the left-hand UI panel.
  3. Instead of the Admin button, the UI only displays the "Client" button, "Crossed Axes" (PvP), and the "Debug Menu" spider icon.

(I have already tried hosting a brand new server after deleting the "db" folder's contents)

Can anyone help? Thanks!

Can you try removing the "-" from your steam name then creating new settings?

Oh, hey Ash, i'm on it

Done, now just attempt to grant the admin via the "setaccesslevel username admin" command?

yeah, don't forget the /

Sure

#

Now the console says: unexpected symbol near "/". No matter how i put it

oh sorry, i misread, you don't need the / in the console, my bad

So i tried without, and now it says: "=" expected near 'DustyBun' (that's my new name)

although if you're using the in game "Host" function you should try sending the command in game using the chat window (default key: T)

Ahh, finally. I was using the command console the whole time which clearly was the problem, right?

Yeah, the console only works for dedicated servers
