#Framerate stutters?

I for the life of me cannot figure out why my game stutters. No mods installed, solo mode, GPU usage is at 35% and CPU usage is at 15%.

I was able to run this game previously at a locked 60 fps but it intermittently stutters every 10 seconds or so and I do not know why. Anyone have any ideas?

I have an Intel i5-14400f, Nvidia RTX 3050, 16GB of ram and 8GB of VRAM.

Please help.

Can you try disabling steam and discord overlays?

raven tusk

Sure can, I'll go do that and test. I've also heard it might be a good idea to allocate more ram to the game, so I tried that as well.

@raven tusk did it work (plz ping me)

Yeah, that didn't seem to do it. I upped the ram in the json up to 4gb, disabled the steam and discord overlays, as well as my steelseries overlay (didn't even think about that at first) but it still happens. I could try bumping it up to 6gb, not sure what default typically is though

I was under the impression that too much ram could also lead to poor performance

raven tusk

It was happening with the default setting as well as the increased allocation

raven tusk

Yup, definitely still happening. It's dropped as low as 36fps.

I was running the game at 55 fps before this update. And now it’s around 28, dips to 10 when I zoom out even after allocating more ram to the game. Not sure what happened there

Yeah, it's driving me crazy cuz I know for a fact my hardware can definitely run it higher than 60 without issue, with all settings at the highest.

Can you try going to NVIDIA Control Panel and changing "Vulkan/OpenGL present method" to "Prefer layered on DXGI swapchain" in "Manage 3D settings"?

You can set it globally if you wish, it will help any Vulkan/OpenGL app.

Gotcha. Just changed it, testing it now.

Can you take a screen recording of the game with the FPS logger on screen (default key: K)

raven tusk
#

Sure thing. Working on it; it's so random so it's hard to tell when it's gonna happen.

#

Only entirely on foot

#

I got a bit of it! Gonna send it now. Now that I caught it, it seems to MAYBE correlate with the view and stuff loading in that I can see through the rooms I pass by?

Are you playing in fullscreen or borderless window?

raven tusk
#

Fullscreen. I was on borderless previously, same issue both ways.

Are your graphics drivers up to date?

raven tusk
#

Yeah, that was the first thing I checked when I noticed the issue.

New development: My game suddenly locked to a hard 30 fps while playing and nothing I do changes it. I was literally just playing through like I have been most of the day today and while breaking into a storage unit an alarm went off. Horde came through, nothing happened out of the ordinary; I began fighting them off, killed a good 10-15 of them, and then it locked to 30 and won't change back; I've tried restarting, changing settings, nothing.

Earlier in the save, I killed at least 150 zombies in the street in front of my base, so there's literally zero reason this should be happening.
