Hello, Dear. The Indie Stone developers or support team
I am a long-time Project Zomboid player who has been playing on the Steam Deck for over three years. I truly enjoy the game and have had a great experience overall.
However, since versions 42.16 and 42.17, the Steam Deck controller setup feels completely broken compared to 42.15. If just the following two issues could be improved, I believe the experience would become enjoyable again:
1).Running Control Change
Previously, running with the left stick + right bumper was very comfortable. In version 42.17, switching this to the left trigger makes extended play sessions uncomfortable and causes finger strain. The previous right bumper input (with a deeper press) felt much more natural and responsive.
2).Aiming System Issues
With the current 42.16/42.17 aiming system, it takes too long to lock onto targets. This makes it very difficult to react to multiple zombies approaching from different directions.
Additionally, interrupting actions now causes a delay and briefly locks the character, which did not happen before.
In version 42.15, aiming and firing felt fast, precise, and intuitive. Even in high-intensity situations (for example, dealing with large groups using an M16), the controls were smooth and reliable. In contrast, the current system feels unresponsive and difficult to adapt to, no matter how much I try.
I sincerely ask that you consider either:
Reverting the Steam Deck controller scheme back to the 42.15 version, or
Allowing players to optionally select the 42.15 controller layout through the official controller/community settings
I truly do not want to lose interest in a game I love due to these control issues.
Thank you very much for your time and consideration.
