#Error joining MP server
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
THIS RIGHT HERE!!
Can you try verifying your files through steam? Steam Library > Right-click Project Zomboid > Properties > Installed Files > Verify Local Files
Im the server host and its happening to us
Happened last time they changed the professions
Already tried, will try again.
Does not seem to fix the error unfortunately
is the server running mods?
The error means that either the client or the server did not update properly
To check for client issues first, delete the "media/lua" folder in your game instal fodler, then verify your game files
If you still cannot join, it means the server did not update correctly, I suggest wiping all of the server install files and reinstall it (you do not delete saves)
I suspect server. I'm another user of that server (hi @regal spruce!) and get the same error. Verification, mods disabled, etc.
Thank you, will try what you suggested. I'll keep you updated.
I have done this and disabled mods. It is not compatible
THis happened last time they tweaked with professions.
Specify how you reinstalled the server exactly, so I can confirm you did it correctly
I quite literally deleted all the files bar Server settings and user data
Then I reinstalled via steamcmd
redownloaded all the files and restroed the server settings and user data
That is what I am asking, what did you delete, what commands did you use for SteamCMD?
You also missed reinstalling SteamCMD
So I have to ask you to do that as well
Ok, thats interesting. I shall do that now
@echo off
"D:\steamcmd\steamcmd.exe" +force_install_dir "D:\ZomboidZ" +login anonymous +app_update 380870 -beta unstable validate +exit
Looks correct, and I assume you just deleted the whole ZomboidZ folder?
yes and restored the server settings and user data
I shall rerun the deletion cycle again
wil let you know
I tried deleting the media folder, verifying and redownloading the update. This did not resolve the issue. The owner of the server is able to get into it fine, all members arent able to. Can you explain how to do this?
The owner is an admin, admins do not get file checksums
Meaning having the admin test is not a good way to check for issues
You can test joining a different up to date server, if it works, then the issue is on the server, not the client
Thanks, will try
server owner here, i did log in with my admin acct. i'll try a player acct
yep, same error message immediately
so, as far as "wiping all of the server install files and reinstalling" - is that different from the "soft wipe" / "hard wipe" options?
Joined a different up to date server successfully. Seems like it's the specific server itself. He's the owner ^
It has nothing to do with wiping, wiping means you wipe the server save
Reinstalling the server install files means you reinstall just the install files, none of the map or player data
okay, thanks. so, reinstall the "pzserver.ini" and "pzserver_SandboxVars.lua" files?
No, let me be a bit more specific with a screenshot
Those are the server install files, it is what runs the server
You remove all of those, then reinstall them
You should not touch any file in the Zomboid folder for this
Which is where server settings, map data and player data is
ah okay, i appreciate your patience, as i'm a touch out of my element learning this. so, where do i do this?
How did you install your server?
man, i don't remember. i set it all up in one day and forgot how it all works. i feel so inept, i'm sorry
i am using Indifferent Broccoli
I might suggest contacting them for support in that case, or check out their documentation for reinstall instructions without losing your data
Since I am mainly helping with manual server installs, if you use a server provider that does that for you, you have to contact them
thanks! 🙏 will do, you've been great.
@ornate raft IT WORKED!
