#Build 41 Crash on AMD (at least for me, Help!)

Hello, I wanted to replay Build 41 because I want a stable experience without worrying about my save file being corrupted by updates. The problem is, Build 41 keeps crashing for no apparent reason. I don't know what to do. I think it's a problem with my AMD drivers, but I don't know what to do since they're up to date. It keeps crashing and saying there was a calculation error. Can anyone help me find a solution? I would really appreciate it. Thanks, and sorry for the trouble.

There is a known issue with AMD drivers at the moment that is being investigated.

Can you share your logs.zip file found in %UserProfile%\Zomboid?

also can you share all “hs_err_pid” files found in your main game folder “Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid”?

Can you try doing a full reinstall?

First, uninstall the game, then go to "Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid" and make sure there are no leftover files or folders there.

After that, go to “%UserProfile%\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.

Then just install the game again and see if that helps.

I think PZ build 41 uses Java 17, and I’m not sure if your dump is showing Java 25. It’s possible that at some point you updated PZ from build 41 to build 42 (build 42 uses Java 25) and then downgraded without deleting the folder, leaving behind the newer Java files. That could be causing some kind of incompatibility.

Where do I delete the folder?

The ideal thing to do is to uninstall PZ, and once it’s uninstalled, delete any remaining traces of PZ in C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common

#

Then delete all the folders except the “save” folder from C:\Users\your user\Zomboid

#

If you play with mods, I think it would be a good idea to reinstall them, since when you update to build 42, any mods you had from build 41 get updated to 42.

#

I also think it would be possible to have both versions installed separately, although I haven't looked into it, so I couldn't advise you on how to do it, but perhaps someone else knows.

But if you switch a lot between version 41 and 42, make sure there are never any leftover files from 42 inside 41 — that can cause crashes. In the case you mentioned, I think the issue was related to Java, since your dump shows Java 25 even though version 41 is supposed to use Java 17, which means some leftover files from 42 must have remained.
