#Dedicated Server "Termination" Error

Trying to set up a dedicated server, as using the "Host" function in game is weird for my friend (glitches and lag, which is to be expected). Was hoping a dedicated server would be more stable, as it works like that in my other games I host.

No matter what I do, I get a "Termination" error. It's a fresh install from steam, no I did not press play in Steam itself. I ran the start.bat files, all 3 of them, to no avail (the 32 bit one just couldn't find a file location so it gave a different error but I don't want to use 32 bit if I can avoid it anyways).

No mods, ports 16261 and 1262 are forwarded, both TCP and UDP. Firewall is off, so it's not firewall. I have hosted many other games through bat files (namely Minecraft) from my own machines before with little issues, and I'm not sure what is the problem with this one.

Looking it up, all I get are "mod conflicts" (I have no mods, didn't even try installing mods till I knew vanilla could load in the first place. I do have mods in my singleplayer game, but they are not only in different folders, my game itself is on a different drive), reinstall the files (fresh install and I have re-installed multiple times by deleting the files myself then validating, and also using the uninstall function in Steam), or wrong AppID in the files (I checked, it's accurate). I'm not sure what the problem is, and Version 41 seems to run just fine, but my friend and I like the features in 42 if it's possible to get it to work. If not, we'll suck it up and use version 41.

On a whim I also tried installing the dedicated server on the same drive as my game (my external hard drive), in case it needed to reference the game itself, and still nothing.

As I am very new to Zomboid in general, I'm not sure which log in the logs folder (for the server), I should be giving, so please let me know.

I also have 32 GB of ram, so I know it's not a ram issue (I have also tried lowering the ram in the .bat file the same way I would in Minecraft, where instead of Xms16G and Xmx16G, I changed the 16 to a 10 for both, and also tried 10 for xmx and 4 for xms. I also have multiple versions of Java installed because I have various game versions of Minecraft I have ran on this PC that requires older versions.

This has been happening for the 3 days I've been trying to figure this out, and I don't have enough experience to fiddle around with it myself without any assistance

Have you hosted a Build 41 server on the same server previously?

No, I have never played build 41. I did successfuly have build 41 run right off the bat to make sure it wasn't potentially my PC (it still could but I'm not sure why Build 42 doesn't work at all but build 41 does, on the same .bat files, and nothing changing about the files)

#

When I changed my server to build 41, I deleted all the files in the server hosting folder and then validated, and then did the same when going back to build 42

Just running it that once may have been enough to cause issues

I know I checked the app ID previously but it had been after I had ran the .bat file

#

I'll see about deleting the folder and remaking it through validation then check the appID before running

I just realize you meant if I had ran the server in version 41 then made it version 42 and ran it. No I have not, I did run version 41, but when changing any of the game's versions, I made sure to delete the entire folder's contents, changed the version, then it re-downloaded everything (my PC is still remaking the files though for what I'm gonna test above)

Also sorry for the ping, I forgot to turn it off

Ok my previous message was wrong. partway through re-installing the server I noticed the zomboid file location it mentioned was in the Users file location. I just deleted everything cause there wasn't much to save anyways, and wow, it seems that was the problem.

I assumed the server files wouldn't be referencing that but it seems it was (I only ran version 41 in singleplayer for half an hour or something before realizing I was on the wrong version I wanted to play on). Sorry it seemed such like an easy to do fix and I bothered you all lol. But the server started so hopefully it works for real this time after adding in my 7 mods lol

Does this mean if for any reason my client or server runs on 41 it just won't work at all? (I ran the server on 42 first, not 41, so I know the problematic files from 41 was when I ran the game in 41 on my client, and not from the server). Seems like a minor thing that should be addressed potentially (Unless I'm reading into the problem wrong)

At least it's running for now, so thanks! Again, sorry I was a bother
