#Bug in Search Mode
1 messages · Page 1 of 1 (latest)
Same world, but only this one has Search Mode working. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Was the world created on an older build? Are you able to reproduce this issue?
I'm on the standard version of B42, which is 42.16.3. As shown in the video, only one character can't use Search Mode, but creating another one in the same world simply returns it to normal, while the main character needs to go into God Mode in Debug mode to return to normal.
I was mainly asking if the save itself was created in an older version, not the version that it was loaded at
Since we need to get reproduction steps for any bug first
No, it wasn't created in an older version.
Can you check if there are any issues with the console that might help resolve this problem?
No there does not seem to be anything wrong there, though this issue would likely create no logs anyway, since there is no actual error happening, just a function is missing / displayed incorrectly
Which is why I am mainly asking for a way to reproduce it, can you get it on a new save somehow?
Initially, this only happens with this character; if I create any other save file, it works normally, even if I create a secondary character in the same save file as the main one, as shown in the second video.
This is a secondary character I created in the same world as the bugged character; search mode works normally on this character, but not on the main character.
So it is not reproducible? If i understand that correctly.
I don't know if it's possible to reproduce this bug, but it always happened before in my saves, but I didn't survive long enough to fix it. I don't know if this happened because I used God Mode, because in that same save it bugged my character's stamina, leaving me with infinite exhaustion and I didn't feel hungry, all because I had the weak, sedentary, and fast metabolism traits. It always bugged when I jumped over a fence, then I used God Mode and it fixed itself, but now this issue of Search mode not working has started.
Hm that is unfortunate, if you do manage to reproduce it, then let us know, I will keep an eye out for similar reports to see if there are any similarities
I assume you use debug mode in that case?
Yes, I'm using debug mode. It solves the problem if I enable God Mode, but if I disable God Mode, the bug reappears and I can't find any items that show up with God Mode active.
Alright, just checking if it would be a problem specifically triggered by having debug enabled
in the debug menu with god mode off, click "general debuggers," then switch to the "search mode" tab. there's probably something showing a value of 'nan' in there
have had this happen to one person on a dedicated server back in like 42.13.1, but could never reliably reproduce it. but if you fix the 'nan' value, you should probably be able to make the character playable without god mode
also see if you have nans in the body tab
(and probably mention in here which stats/items have nans)
(NaN stands for 'Not a Number,' and usually means the code divided by zero or did some other illegal math at some point. once they get into a calculation, they can't be "mathed" away)
if you can reliably bug your characters with nan stats, I'm sure indie stone would like to know how so they can reproduce/fix it
In Search Mode, only those two appear as NaM, specifically the outer and inner beam focus. In Body, only the NaN values for pain, temperature, wetness, protein, lipids, carbohydrates, and calories are shown. I'm not very experienced with the game, but could you explain how to change these NaN values?
iirc it's kind of finicky when it's nan, but clicking just in the slider area should do it
if they revert immediately back to nans you might be stuck, but it's meant to be a slider-scale kind of thing
This didn't work for me.
do you see it change to a number for a split second, and it immediately goes back to nan? or it's just not responsive?
I was able to fix a player with only broken search mode, but couldn't help a player with nan temperature...it just always immediately re-broke itself until they rerolled a new character
maybe your char is too bugged
I was testing it by paying attention to the Search Mode here, and when I manage to drag and change the values, it kind of stays with the default blur, but if I unpause the game, it reverts all the values to NaN.
is it any different if you pause and fix all the nans on both the search mode and body tabs?
When I do that and unpause the game, it immediately reverts to the NaN values.
might be too bugged to fix then. every math expression with a nan in it just outputs another nan, so there must be something internal that's instantly re-corrupting everything. the debug sliders are the extent of what I know to easily do, sorry
there have been some mods out there to protect against specific nan corruption, but I don't think I've seen any for search mode, temperature, wetness, etc. it's usually been nutrition stuff
I have not tried this, maybe it would help you https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3627071412
