#Corrupted/Broken saves caused by updates.

So I'm given the option to opt into the unstable, a slightly older unstable, or an extremely old version of the game with no animals and a lot of other awesome updated features missing. Good stuff!

#

So accept the risk of having all of your progress deleted whenver a new update comes out every other month... or play a very old version with a ton of features and content missing.

#

Really wish that a version that simply stays as is would be provided. This is really upsetting.

I hear you. I like playing CDDA for the challenge and I get through the hard part, get into spring and look forward to animals and all the other things B42 have to offer....and then have had to restart 3 times now. butttt...I keep coming back cause I love the game too much.

...Although this last one almost broke me. My save converted and I load into my safehouse...which is on fire, I have a wound, and a cold, and zeds are all around...it restarted the CDDA start conditions. No way around it apparently...

So no one has really spelled this out for me until now. Apparently the "rolled back unstable" branch will load your older unstable version

#

I thought maybe after so many updates it would just break the save all the same but I guess it doesn't? It's a way to keep a long term save of the older unstable version?

#

So maybe I deleted my playthrough for no reason?

#

Would love some clarification if anyone sees this!

yeah sorry I'm not that tech savvy/deep into understanding it myself. I think what version you choose in the properties before loading in determines the conversion or not of the save file. but I think what happened with the security update was they didn't keep that version because of the security vunerability, instead they kept a legacy B42 version or a couple. not sure really. sorry

No problem man. Was hoping others would chime in.

If you prefer having a very old save after the initial phases, then I can only recommend waiting for the stable release of 42

#

Since without it, saves can break, it is as you said, that is the point of unstable, which you signed up for

It's just so brutal to me that these are the only options I have.
-Risk having all my progress deleted -Roll back to build 41 -or wait potentially years for stable release of 42

#

Or you can just tell me to go play another game I guess haha. BUT I LIKE THIS ONE SO MUCH.

#

You can argue that I probably won't even survive until the next update haha. Is there not a way to freeze a decently stable version of the newer build so people can play around in that version while the unstable branch continues to evolve?

You can always just make a copy of the game folder, and you will keep the files of that copy yourself forver

#

So you will be able to play that specific version

#

I do not recommend using mods when doing that, since they will still update

earnest goblet
#

I mean, does me making a copy of the game folder allow me to launch normally? As far as I can tell there is no way to simply not update the game.

median cairn
#

That is the way to not update the game

earnest goblet
#

Is there a instruction place you can point me towards on how to do that? I know there's more involved in that than just copying the game file.

median cairn
#

Well, it really isnt more involved than copying the files

#

You can just go to your game install location, copy all the files elsewhere, and you are done

#

You can use the files you copied to run the game
