#My game won't start

I got project zomboid on steam and every time I press "start" on steam or try to run it from my desktop it doesn't start, on steam the start button changes to "stop" for a few seconds before going back to saying "start". I've tried alternative launches, using different versions of the game, downloading the redistributables from the pz wiki troubleshooting page, changing the allocated RAM for project zomboid, running projectzomboid64 exe in the games files, verifying the files on steam and more stuff that I can't remember atm. I've never actually played it before so I don't have any mods or anything installed that might be making it not work, I just bought and downloaded it off of steam and it wouldn't start. My friend who does play PZ has been helping me but we've tried everything we've seen online and nothing's helped so she said I should try ask for help here.

Can you try using the "Alternate launch" option when launching the game through Steam? If the game fails to start again, can you share your console.txt file, found in %UserProfile%\Zomboid?

These logs do not seem to show much, can you instead share a screenshot of the console window that shows up when using the Alternate launch?

Additionally, can you share all “hs_err_pid” files found in your main game folder “Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid”?

Your issue is that you have the game installed in an unsupported folder path

The game cannot read the exclamation marks

Remove them or move the game to a different location

ive downloaded other steam games and ive never had that issue with any of them so i never thought that could be the problem, tysm for helping me !!

I have 138 hours in the game, and this is the first time it happens where I can't start the game

I'm guessing it has to do with this mod I tried, "Zed's better fps" and downloading an exe

It didn't really change the fps, so I unsubscriped and deleted the exe from PZ file

#

After that tried launching the game but it's not working

Alternate launch does work though

Uninstall the game, then delete any leftover files from the game install folder

Which likely would be leftovers from the mod causing problems

You likely do not have the same issue then, its preferred you start your own thread with your own issues
