#Can run 41, can’t launch 42

I’m on a fairly old Mac. I’m using a fresh install of PZ and I have Java updated. I can roll back to 41 and start a game with no trouble, but 42 won’t even launch. I’d been fine playing 42 through .13 or .14 but haven’t been able to since. Still can’t with today’s update.

Any help would be appreciated.

Can you share your logs.zip file found in Home\Zomboid?

Yes, the zip itself

#

You do not need Discord on your Mac, Discord is a web application, you can log into it there

Man, I'm learning so much. freddy_fox

Yes that is correct, it seems as if there were some leftover files from the older installs causing issues, or at least that is one possibility

#

Can you try doing a full reinstall?
First, uninstall the game, then go to "Steam\steamapps\common\ProjectZomboid" and make sure there are no leftover files or folders there.
After that, go to “Home\Zomboid” and delete everything there except the “Saves” folder.
Then just install the game again and see if that helps.

I’m reinstalling now.

Nope. The behaviour is different, though. Now Steam is saying that PZ is running, and there’s a “paper & pens” icon for the PZ process in my dock, but the game didn’t ever open and clicking the icon does nothing. Right-click says the application isn’t responding.

Should I stop through Steam or Force Quit?

#

It eventually just closed on its own.

#

And can you test what happens if you launch it and let it be?

#

Will it eventually close on its own as well? If it does, then Mac might generate additional error reports

New logs. It's back to just stopping the process quickly.

#

Man, I miss 42.

sonic tulip
#

And can you specify what exact Mac system you have?

iMac (Retina 4K, 21.5-inch Late 2015)
Processor 3.1 GHz Quad-Core Intel Core i5
Memory 16GB 1867 MHz DDR3
Graphics Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 1536MB
Serial Number I don't think you need that

No Crash Reports at all, but this was in the system log:
Apr 3 20:16:40 iMac Console[15967]: BUG in libdispatch client: vnode, monitored resource vanished before the source cancel handler was invoked { 0x6000013e2b00[source], ident: 15 / 0xf, handler: 0x7fff4d7575d4 }

Apr 3 20:16:52 iMac com.apple.xpc.launchd[1]

And then, like, constant messages saying: Apr 3 20:20:01 iMac com.apple.xpc.launchd[1] (com.apple.mdworker.shared.09000000-0100-0000-0000-000000000000[16030]): Service exited due to SIGKILL | sent by mds[159]

Like, all the time it's doing this. It's such an old machine.

Can you forward the above logs.zip file and this system log as a bug report to our forums? Since I am not exactly sure how to fix this specific issue, may be a good time to have the devs have a look at it.

I see no reason why that specific Mac couldnt run the game.. but you can try checking if you can update your Mac OS to a more recent version

#

macOS Monterey is supposedly the latest one your machine supports?

#

The game has a minimum requirement of 10.15
