#[B42.15.3, Multiplayer, Client-Side Crash] The undeserved nerf to the butter meta

Hi! We're running into a reproducible client-side crash on B42.15.3 in multiplayer when one specific player tries to churn butter.

From what we can tell:

  • It only happens on the butter-making craft (can't resist the butter meta, unfortunately)
  • It appears to be purely client-side, there is nothing logged by the server during that time frame, other players are unaffected during the crash itself.
  • It only affects one player on the server. We tried reproducing it with other players and butter churns, but had no "luck"
  • Other players on the same server are not experiencing the issue
  • The affected player has already reinstalled the game
  • We also checked whether it might be a flaky connection, but their connection to the server seems stable. There is no observed jitter, high ping, packet loss, or anything similar.

We haven't been able to identify the root cause and it seems really weird that it only affects this one player. It's absolutely cursed. So we were hoping someone from the dev team or tech support could take a quick look at the call stack and point us in the right direction.

Full disclosure: we are playing with mods enabled. However, the actual crash stack doesn't seem to mention any modded Lua/Kahlua calls in the exception path, which is why this looked worth asking about here first instead of assuming it's a mod issue. That said, we know mods can still cause indirect problems. I know the server being modded makes this harder to evaluate, and I completely understand that. I'm only asking that this not be dismissed out of hand, because the crash path doesn't appear to implicate modded Lua/Kahlua directly, and the issue is oddly specific enough that it felt worth reporting in good faith. We're happy to try any isolation steps you'd recommend.

You can find the logged exception attached to this message.
